Test your grammar IQ

8/9 - lay and laid always confuse me

Nice work!
Do you diagram sentences in your spare time? You got 8/9 correct.

Drats! That stupid cool student one foiled me.
Pam

i got 8/9 and missed the same one as jipsy. LOL

I got 8/9 too. I also missed the "laid/lay" one.
My daughter has a book, "A Writer's Reference", that she uses for writing college papers.
It helps with speaking correctly too, it's really quite interesting!

9 out of 9 for me too! My mother the English teacher would be proud.

I got a 7/9. My mom (who taught for 20 years and still corrects my grammar) would be disappointed.

Nice work! Do you diagram sentences in your spare time? You got 9/9 correct.

;) That English degree and those 11 years teaching English didn't hurt, did they?;)

7/9 for me. Looks like I need to practice more sentence diagramming, LOL! :teeth:

9/9 here too. Here's the one I really had to think about, and I could NOT have told you that was "subjunctive mood." Now I finally know! :)

7. Correct!
The correct answer: C were
Your answer: C were

"He acts as if he were the coolest guy in school."

It may sound a bit pretentious, but were is called for in this sentence because it describes something that’s untrue (he’s clearly not the coolest guy in school). This is an example of the subjunctive mood, which is used to express doubts, wishes, possibilities, or untruths.

Wouldn't it be nice if all DISers would take this quiz? I see way too much "to DH and I" around here.

I'm surprised more people didn't miss the bad/badly question.
