Agreed that it’ll be similar to World of Motion with a look through the history of transportation. But I don’t think it’ll be slow moving, as that would require them to redo the ride system which seems unlikely. They’ll keep the vehicles and track the same and change the show scenes.
The track system is already in place so the movement of the cars is already pre-determined. They will only be changing/updating the theming around it.
Test Track will be closed as of Mon, Jun 17, 2024 for an extended refurbishment of many months, into sometime in 2025. A re-opening date has not been announced as of this time.
The update is courtesy GM and it's theirs to design. Latest I heard is that the exterior portion will be enclosed so there won't be so many thunderstorm closures. they have said they will be drawing from the original World of Motion theming. I would absolutely love if they would re-track the regular brake vs. ABS brake comparison portion since that made no sense in V2 and is completely outdated (does any new car not have ABS?). BUT...no word on that.
It won't be slow-moving, as it will be retaining the same track and vehicles. They are just going to change the theme to something more like "World of Motion" but that's all they have said. I really don't know what that means, but I would guess it will be less "Sim Track" and more like the original version where they are showing actual automtive technology.
From what I've heard, Disney is giving Test Track a bit of a makeover, but it's not a total re-theme. They're updating some stuff, so it might feel fresh, but I don't think they'll count it as a totally new ride.
i certainly hope they are at least going to replace some of the worn sections of the track even if they don't redo the track itself. last time i went on it, the track was really showing its age.
excited for a new retheme though. the original ride was so much fun and the retheme was really dull in comparison.
