Test Track Update?

I think I'm gonna puke. Am I the only one who HATES the DL SM Renovation? It was not fun, there were NO drops, and it made me nauseous.

However i do agree that it they update it it will be a cheap update and not a renovation

Well I hate SW all together does that count?

It is in need of a refurb bad. There really isn't much they can do other than a new car testing place or a Cars themed ride. I'd rather see testing again.

lol, they're still testing technology they've already ditched!!! lol (the 4-wheel turning on the trucks that lasted like 1/2 a model year).

My best guess is that this will be a refurbishment along the lines of the haunted mansion. Update the technology of the queue and make the queue interactive as well first. Then just spruce up the actual attraction with a new in-ride theme and ride along video.

I doubt this will turn into a Cars themed attraction since it is still sponsored by GM. They will want to showcase their product more since they are still the backers of the attraction.

I LOVE what they did with DL's Space Mountain. The music, particularly, is amazing. I don't know if I would be in favor of a Test Track renovation. I feel that another areas of Future World are in a much more dire need of renovation, such as Universe of Energy and Imagination.

If it makes you feel better, I do agree. DL SM sucks. I just rode it for the first time a couple weeks ago and it is nothing but jerky turns in the dark. I've been riding SM at MK since 1978 and it is so much better.

Personally I love Cars (the movie)! I agree that TT needs an obvious refurb, but I wouldn't be opposed to a cars themed TT. The only thing that makes me think otherwise is that since Disneyland is getting Cars Land I would assume that DW would wait and see what the response is to Cars Land before refurbing TT. I really like the pixar theme, but I feel like Epcot in general needs something new and exciting to help keep it in the competition with the other parks. So, overall, I really hope that this is true!

I would. Get Pixar (and frankly, other characters) out of Epcot altogether, at least in terms of the attractions (keeping the Nemo seagulls near The Seas, for example, would be fine, but the whole Nemo ride concept needs to go).

Plenty of room at DHS to expand on Pixar stuff, especially once they reclaim the "backlot tour" space for something useful.

A long time ago we debated bringing PIXAR into epcot and we came to the conclusion that PIXAR
does not belong there. However, finding memo is ok. Or at least it seemed that people really enjoyed it when I was there in June.

I agree that Universe of Energy and Imagination are in a greater need of renovation.

Nemo is...ok.

But I honestly don't think it holds a candle to the previous incarnation of the attraction. YAY!! We get some singing fish..... but what ever happened to the education? Or the looking to the Future part of "Future World"?

I think that may be the thing that annoys me the most about FW these days... There is almost a distinct lack of any sort of Education in the park. Compare that to 15yrs ago before they started the year numbering thing, and you could walk out of the park learning a lot about different topics, and often without even realizing it.

DCTooTall...
The problem with future world is the future Is the present.

And in some cases.... The past's incorrect information.

It wouldn't bug me so much if we had more....inspiration. Ok.... So the Future is the present.... but where is that hope for the future? Where is the inspiration in what you learned or experienced to maybe help you go into the future?

I remember as a kid riding attractions that looked into the past, showed us where we've been, how we got to where we were... and even maybe gave a little nudge to make you ask where we are going based off what you experienced. Spaceship Earth and the future of communication (which we've exceeded with the internet)...The Living Seas with the birth of the seas, our early exploration of them, the underwater Sea-base Alpha, and the amazing treasures we were yet to discover.... The Land w/ the boat ride, A fun little show that taught us about proper nutrition (kinda important in a super-size me society today, don't you think?).... Journey into Imagination w/ it's fun little ride that helped show what the imagination was capable of, and the wonderful playground upstairs that managed to get your imagination running wild.... World of Motion, with the history of transportation leading us to a possible future of getting from point A to B.... Horizons with it's fun visions of the future that could be.... Wonders of Life with Body Wars that was a fun way to see the inner workings of the body, Cranium Command and it's representation of the mind and body's interactions, and the films and entertainment throughout the "lobby" area all about our body and health.... And even Universe of Energy.

Kids today? Not so much. Spaceship Earth still helps accomplish this (even with the triangles). The Land's Boat ride does. And maybe to a small extent, World of Energy does...(although it's so dated it doesn't have the impact it used too.). Everything else is more about the entertainment but has lost the education and inspiration.

I understand the problem with designing FutureWorld is that the present always catches up. It's the same problem Tomorrowland has had in one way or another since Disneyland first opened. But they could always aim just a little higher. If you design for the present, it just gets "old" quicker. If you design with the idea of inspiring without maybe getting into so much detail about the future, It becomes timeless. (or a much easier/cheaper refurb). If you leave the Future up to the imagination... and give the guest the building blocks and inspiration during the attraction, Then the Future is always there, and always changing, because the guest will imagine the Future as they see it and be able to compensate for the present catching up and surpassing what we thought possible when the attraction was designed and built.

.....why do I suddenly feel like a crotchety old man? :rotfl:

I think you sound more like an imagineer, or a visionary..:thumbsup2:thumbsup2pirate:

Is it just me or did walt Disney write this response? :)

Totally agree but until there is a major regime change or the current regime can squeeze $$$ out this thought process I think we'll only continue to see incremental changes with the "future" becoming more and more the past.

Yogi Berra said it best: "The future ain't what is used to be."

They should put that on a plaque in Future World.

I haven't read everything here, but I will say this from the responses I have read: Disney, if you are reading this keep Pixar out of Future World.
