Test track too scary for kids?

Our DD is almost 6, and 45 inches tall (well over the height req. for TT). I'm wondering if it's too scary for kids her age, though. She is not afraid of the "big" rides, loves Space Mountain, BTTR, Star Tours, etc. , but I wonder if TT would be too visually scary, like it's too real? Any experiences with younger kids on TT?

DS9 has loved this ride since he was 4. It's very similar to riding fast in a car so if she can handle that she'll be fine. If she enjoys other thrill rides I'd say go for it.

Mine were both younger than that and loved it. It's very fast and bumpy. Space mountian is scarier I think.

Took my 5 yr old grandson in Dec on Test Track and he absolutely loved it.

I was at WDW with my 4yo last week. After we'd done all the parks I asked him what park he wanted to go to on our last day. He told me he wanted to go back to Epcot so we could go on Test Track again. It's not scary at all, just fast at times.

My DD first rode a week or two before she turned 6 and she was scared. We had to even get out of line to go to the restroom (her nervous reaction) and then get back in line. Right up to boarding, I think she really wanted me to say forget it. But we rode and she loved it. It's mainly tame till the end and then you just go fast. It's 64.x MPH which slow compared to a real highway but feels faster in the small vehicle and convertible. But you never feel like you're going to fly out or loose your seat. Even the curves are banked so you don't lean into the person beside you.

I think what scares the kids is being outside the building and hearing those cars ROAR around the building. You can't see them but the sound is something. When you don't know what it is and being young, I can see that being frightening.

A couple of years later we were there and I noticed a little girl about 6 ahead of us in line, fighting tears, Mom trying to tell her it would be alright. I sent DD over to talk to the girl to tell her how cool and fun it was and that she was scared her first time too.

So I'd suggest listening on the outside and if it bothers her, try to explain that it's just the cars on the track like BTTR and maybe talk to some other kids her age that have done it. Even go to the exit and watch the kids coming off. I've seen other kids really nervous getting on but have seen only grins once they get off.

Have fun...Sharon

I think she'll be fine too. She is a fearless little one, has been on the "big rides" since her first visit (not quite 4 years old--she was a bit tall for her age). She has studied our WDW planning DVD and his actually rather annoyed she's not tall enough for Rockin' Roller Coaster!:p

Can't wait!

Hi,

The first time my kids went on TT they were 4 1/2 years old. They loved it We went on 3 times. It is my son's (who is now 6) favorite ride. We always go on more then once. My kids also love Splash Mountain and Big Thunder Mountain. They want to do Space Mouintain but we just haven't.

My son is 5, and he rode it last summer for the first time. He loved it!!! He even wanted to buy one - Matchbox size, of course! It's one of the first things he mentions when we ask him what rides he wants to go on the next time we go. (He doesn't know when that will be... Our trip in March is a surprise! Shhh.. don't tell him!)

I'm sure if she likes Space Mountain and BTMRR, she'll like this one! Have a great time!

My younger DD rode Test Track last summer just before turning 6 and loved it. It was one of her favorite rides. By contrast, she did not like BTMRR and wouldn't try Space Mountain. It sounds like your almost-6-year-old will be fine.

DD even seemed to like the fast laps around the building at the end the best, didn't phase her at all. What does that say about my driving then? LOL

We were there w/ my dear little cousin (7) and she LOVED TT, she went on Space Mt., ToT :scared1: , RnR, and loved them all. (I wouldn't let her go on Mission Space though...too much for me, so it'll be too much for a 7 yr old).

Hope this helps, enjoy!!!:teeth: :wave2: :teeth:

I've learned the answer to questions like this always depend on the person it answer affects. Someone asked me in the pre show room about Test Track and I told her "NO WAY " was it scarry. How was I to know she had just been in a head on collission last year?? It scared the be-jeepers outta her and we were in the same car.

It really all depends on their life experiences not the one giving the opinion.

edited to read we were in the same TEST TRACK ride vechicle.

Very true, Pintrader!

That of course applies to all rides. I didn't think that Mission to Space was in the least bit scary(I did feel a little sick), but for someone who doesn't like confined areas or who gets motion sickness easily it would be a good choice. Tower of Terror is my very favorite ride at WDW, but some people hate falling or don't like elevators even under the best of circumstances, so it wouldn't be a good choice.

gets scard at about every ride but LOVES test track.

My kids rode it when they were tall enough and loved the ride, we ride it at least 3-4 times b4 we leave Epcot.

Oh boy I learned that the hard way. We went to US with my sis and niece. Niece was 10 and hadn't really been to any parks/on any rides before. She was afraid of everything. Told her ET was a piece of cake. Well I forgot about the part when the car comes at the bikes. Sis and niece had been in a pretty bad accident not long before that. Luckily DNi forgave me.

I was really looking forward to TT when my boys were 4.5. They were car crazy then. We got close enough to see the building and the noise scared them to death. I talked to them a lot about how cool the ride was inside. However, they didn't want to get anywhere near where the noise was coming from. We ended up skipping the ride and moving on. We will be going back for their 8th birthday soon. I mentioned the ride again the other day. They still remember the noise and said they didn't want to go on it! I'm going to wait until we are there. I don't think it will be as scary to them now that they are older.

I guess it is a matter of whether the child is sensitive to noise. They weren't scared at all of Haunted Mansion. Go figure...

Sometimes kids get an idea in their head and it's tough to get them to give it a chance. My 4yo son watched the planning video and did not want to go on Splash MT because of the drop. Mind you, he'd done Tower of Terror at MGM (5 times) and Jurassic Park at Islands of Adventure. He's young enough that I told him that we were going on a boat ride and he fell for it. I would not have tricked him like that, by the way, if I wasn't fairly certain that he would love the ride. He did and we went on it 2 or 3 more times.
