Test Track, Big Thunder, and Everest, Oh My! A First Time Trip with Lots of Thrills!

Day 8: EPCOT Afternoon: World Showcase

When I left off we had just finished our 2nd ride on Test Track, and decided to make our way into the World Showcase!

We started out in Mexico, and went and rode the Gran Fiesta boat tour – it had 10 minute wait and we basically walked right on. It was fun and Mater really liked it since he likes Donald Duck!

After the boat tour, I realized that I had forgotten to get the kids the Passports, so we quickly backtracked to the shop at the entrance to World Showcase and we got the Passports there and went back into Mexico to get the kids their first stamps. The liked doing the passports and I was glad we had a little something to do in each country that would keep them entertained.

IMG_0304.jpg

After that I picked up a Strawberry Margarita from the food stand there, and it was a really good drink!! It was early afternoon and really beginning to get hot, so a nice icee drink was great! As we were walking out of Mexico we saw Donald Duck out doing pictures, so we stopped in his line since Mater had missed him at the character breakfast and didn’t get his autograph. It was only a few minutes until we were up and the kids got a nice picture with Donald, Mater really seemed to like it.

IMG_0309.jpg

Up next was Norway, we just went through the shop, there was a 30 minute wait for Maelstrom and we didn’t want to get a fastpass and have to come back later, so we just skipped it. We found the Kidcot stop in the store and got the stamps, and shopped around a little bit.

IMG_0316.jpg

After that was China, where we didn’t spend much time but found the Kidcot stop and did do a few pictures.

IMG_0322.jpg
IMG_0325.jpg

We were most looking forward to Germany, and we spent a lot of time there once we got there. We stopped in the shops first, looked around a while then went to see what they had for snacks, the kids were getting hungry and Dan wanted to get a beer there and a brat. The kids and I went and got a big pretzel and some water for them, while Dan went inside and got a German beer and a nice big brat.

IMG_0345.jpg
IMG_0349.jpg

We met back up on some benches by the water and sat and enjoyed our snack. We also did a photopass picture there and the kids looked through the little miniature village they have there, they really liked watching the trains. As the kids watched the trains, Dan and I sat and relaxed and talked. It was really fun and relaxing to just sit, look around and people watch, listen to the german music being played, and watch the kids have fun. We sat for about 20 minutes then decided that was enough and we should get going, we practically had to drag the kids away from the train village!

IMG_0370.jpg

After Germany was Italy, where we just did the KidCot stop, by now Mater was beginning to really melt down. Granted it was a hot day, he was now more misreable than he had been all morning - we tried to make the best of it - gave him lots of snacks and drinks and breaks to sit, but as soon as we started walking again the whining would start back up. He is the most persistent child I've ever known - and if he's not having a good time....no one is having a good time! So we quickly went through Italy, Mater didn't want to do the kidcot stop (he was boycotting everything we wanted to do and asking to go back to the hotel) so McQueen and I went up and did it, and we did a quick picture there.

IMG_0387.jpg

We got some water and decided ot help Mater cool off a bit:

IMG_0388.jpg

Up next was the American Adventure, where we did the Kidcot stop and right then the Fife and Drum Corp was coming out to do their performance, it was now 4pm. So we stayed and watched them perform, I had to duck into the shop they have there as I was just really hot and needed a break from the heat (and Maters whining!.)

IMG_0392.jpg
IMG_0394.jpg

They finished up the performance and we headed out, and decided it would be best to finish up the rest of the countries tomorrow, so we walked though the rest of the countries but didn’t stop at anything. Once we told Mater that we were leaving and heading back, he didn't seem to mind walking and was quite good company.

Once back in FutureWorld, we stopped at the Electric Umbrella for some dinner before heading back to the hotel. It was not the greatest dinner by far. Dans burger was actually cold so I took it back, and while I was up there another customer brought back theirs which was cold also. Once we ahd warm food it was an okay meal, at least it was cool and fairly quiet in there. We then stopped over in MouseGear and picked up a few things – Dan got Crocs sandals (he had been looking at them all trip and finally got them), I got an Epcot tshirt, and we also got a coffee scoop to go with our other Mickey coffee mugs and stuff we had picked up. From there we headed toward the exit, shopping at another couple little shops and stands along the way.

We made our way to the busses, and since we were the furthest bus stop away, we were all feeling the effects of a lot of walking that day, lots of sore legs and achy feet. The bus with there within a minute of us arriving, so that was great timing and we were happy to be able to sit and relax in the nice cool bus for a while.

After we got back to our room, McQueen and I headed down to the pool for a bit, I had been so hot and sweaty all day I really couldn’t wait to jump in the pool! We only stayed about a half an hour but it was nice to go down and get a little more pool time in. Once back we got the kids cleaned up and ready for bed, they played until about 8pm and we got them in bed. After a late night last night and a pretty long day on our feet, we were all ready for an early bedtime tonight.

We talked a little bit that night about tomorrow being our last full day here - it has been a ton of fun and it was hard to believe tomorrow was our last day already! The day before McQueen told me that he wanted to live here, but then today said he missed home. I think we all do a little bit.

We had a really great first day at Epcot though and we got a lot done! Rides/Attractions we did today:
*Test Track x 2
*Seas with Nemo
*Spaceship Earth
*Living with the Land boat tour
*Club Cool
*Mexico & Gran Fiesta
*Norway
*China
*American Adventure
*Italy
*Germany
*Characters: Donald Duck

Today’s Highlights:
*Test Track was awesome! Super fun, super fast and everybody loved that ride. It is so fun seeing the boys enjoy the rides to much and watching McQueen get the courage to put his “hands up high” during the second ride.
*Sunshine Seasons had great food! We are planning to eat lunch there again tomorrow. It was really good, little bit more healthy options and had a really nice seating area. Just a great place overall.
*Bus service was again great – we had a short wait in the morning but it was immediate service tonight coming home. The busses have just been outstanding.
*World Showcase is really impressive – Germany was really fun and I’m glad we took some time to hang out there and just enjoy the environment. Dan had been looking forward to spending some time there and I’m glad we were able to do that and that it went well, it was fun.
*Lots of people commented and complimented our shirts today!!! We even had one lady take a picture of us and our matching shirts. Several people and quite a bit of staff commented on the shirts – it was fun.

Up Next: Epcot Day 2: Finishing up the countries, finishing up the rides. Our last full day at Disney World.

Loved your t-shirts! I loved Epcot (it used to be my favorite but is now tying with HS which a lot of people don't like as much). Wish I could talk my boys into matching t-shirts and even if I surprised them with it, they wouldn't wear them :sad2:

Hard to believe you only have one day left - really enjoying your TR!!

The picture with you and the boys in Italy made me laugh. I'm sure at the time it was pretty frustrating, but Mater putting his cap over his face is priceless!

Thanks - I loved those shirts too! I was so happy everyone agreed to the matching shirts for a few days of the trip - it was fun! The kids loved theirs and I think Dan actually liked his (I caught him wearing one at home here the other day, so he must not completely hate them!)

I know, right!!!?!!! I didn't even realize he was like that until I saw the picture back at home!!! :rotfl: That was about his mood right then - he is just a stubborn little bugger! The hat is probably better than what his grumpy expression would have been!

Great World Showcase update Karen! We only got to Mexico with the kids when we were there, I wish we could have seen more with them, especially Gabe, he would have LOVED to see the trains in Germany! I LOVE Dan's picture with a beer and brat, I have one similar with Cory, those Wisconsin boys love their beer and brats!!! :goodvibes Epcot is such a lot of walking, it's always nice to cool off in the pool though after a long day! I can't believe your last day is almost here!! I love reading all about your trip!!! :goodvibes:goodvibes

Great post!

I just want to compliment your boys- although you had some episodes of tired whining, it sounds like the boys really had a nice time in the World Showcase. It is not the most interactive of places at Disney, but the boys did really really well for their ages there!

The photo with Donald is excellent! The others in the countries are great too- cute one with the boys and the train models.

What a super first trip you are sharing with us!

Your shirts are great. I love 'em!

Kidcot stops are life savers when there are little ones in the group. Heck, I remember the day when I was happy to see a Kidcot stop just so we could get some relief from the heat.

It's good that you guys were able to spend a little time at the pool. It's amazing what a swim will do to refreshen you at the end of the day.

What a great WS update! Great pics too!

The one pic w/you and the boys w/DS cap over his face was too funny!
That's so my DS...if he's not happy no one else is either!!

Not the last day already!!

Thanks Beth! WS was fun, I really enjoyed it. Germany was SO much fun. I remember your pic of Cory with his beer and brat, I remember commenting on it!!! Whatever makes them happy, right! The train village thing was cute, and I was suprised how much the kids liked it - I mean, they really wanted to stay a long time! And it was HOT that day, but we all made it though, it was a fun day.

Great post!

Thanks Dee! The kids did do really well considering we were on day 8 here and they had been walking all these days. I remember on day 7 or 8 my legs were really sore - just in general and moreso at the end of the days. So they did do well....and we achieved our goal: NO STROLLER on this trip!

I was glad we did the KidCot, otherwise there were some countries we would have just passed right by, so glad we had at least a little something to do in each one. And it was a nice relief from the heat like you say - got to go inside the shops to cool off! All day long I was looking forward to the pool and it was nice to go down and catch a quick dip!

Thanks Heather! Glad to hear I'm not alone - there are times Mater can make it misreable for everyone if he's not happy!

I know - last day already! Working on the update - slowly but surely!

Hi Everyone! So sorry I'm so slow in getting to my next update - just super busy with "regular life" stuff and haven't had any time to work on my pictures or prepare the next update! I should have something posted soon!

In other news, Dan and I were talking about vacation plans for 2011 and what, if any, vacation we wanted to do. We had both kind of agreed that we wouldn't take a huge trip every year, but probaly every other year. That discussion grew into a discussion about future years and trips we want to take, and I mentioned that I'd like to go to California in 2012 - since we could do Disneyland and that is supposed to be when the Cars land will open. And he agreed! We'll do California and Disneyland in 2012!

So, it is a long ways away, but it least it's something to plan for and look forward to! We have family in Burbank and SF so we'll probably do a trip like we did this year, leave on a Friday, come home on a Sunday and stretch the trip into 10 days instead of just a week. We can do DL a few days, then visit family and see some other attractions in CA too - maybe Lego or Univeral? I'm really looking forward to it and can't wait to start the planning!!

Karen

Oooh, Disneyland!!! I've only been there twice but I loved it there. It is so different from WDW though. We are hoping to go some day and stay at the Grand Californian!

Hi Karen!:goodvibes I was a few updates behind...but all caught up now!:thumbsup2

It sounds like you had so much fun at Epcot! Love your shirts by the way!:) So cute! Yay for Test Track! It really is such a fun ride! I'm glad you enjoyed Sunshine Seasons! We love it there! The food is always so yummy and fresh plus there's such a great selection!:thumbsup2 The Kidcot stops are always a great way to see the different countries in the WS.

How exciting...Disneyland!!:woohoo: We've been tossing around that idea too!;) I really want to go and see the World of Color!

Your Disneyland plans sound wonderful Karen! Cory and I talked about doing Disneyland (along with Southern California) but we too thought about waiting until Carsland was done! It seems that they are doing a lot out there at the two parks too!!:goodvibes

Hi Sarah! Only Twice!!??? ;) You'll have to give be your best tips when the time comes! I already started a little reading and loooking at the rides - a lot seem quite similar/the same but there is a lot different too. It'll be fun. Than last night Dan goes and tells me we can go back to WDW in 4 years! So DL in 2, WDW in 4. We'll see if he makes it that long!!!! I think he really wants to go back sooner! :rotfl:

Hi Angie! We loved Epcot! TT was probably the best ride, for the kids anyway, but everything we saw and did was great. We loved SS - they do have a great selection and such a nice environment and seating area. YEAH for DL! WOC would be really great! :thumbsup2

Hi Beth! I'm anxious to see what the Cars land will be like - since there is supposed ot be a new Cars movie coming out that same time I'm sure all of our boys will still totally be into Cars!! Looks like there is so much to do in So. Cal!

Hi all! I'm finally back with an update!!! So sorry for the long delay...needed a break to get caught up on other stuff and take a break from my WDW pictures! So I spent the last 2 weeks or so getting stuff done, doing some projects around the house, working on getting some exercise and running in, and working on all of my other regular pictures that I haven't had time to work on. But yesterday I ordered almost 400 pix of family stuff from July-October, so I'm all caught up on those! YEAH!! Then last night I worked through my last couple days of Disney pix and I'm ready to go! It's strange but when I'm so far behind on my pictures I feel behind on everything! I usually don't get more than 2 months behind on ordering pictures and scapbooking - I usually print pictures every 2 months and then have 2 months to scrappbook them before my next order. I am behind this year though, but it'll be a good winter project for me to get caught back up on - all those weekends we're sitting home snowed in! So, with that said...back to the updates!!!

Day 9: Epcot Day 2

Our second day at Epcot was again very busy and lots of walking! We started out our day by getting breakfast at the Pop food court – muffins, croissants, and fruit. We then left for the bus stop, and quickly got on a bus to Epcot! We decided that today we would just take things slow – a little slower than yesterday anyway, we did not want a repeat of “walkings tough” so we’d take it at the kids pace today.

IMG_0419.jpg

Once there, we did a few obligatory pictures, and then headed straight for Soarin’, It was about 9:30am and it had a 20 minute wait, so we got Fastpasses and got in line to wait it out.

IMG_0421.jpg
DSC01240.jpg

The line went pretty fast and soon it was our turn! McQueen was a bit scared, he just wasn’t sure what to expect, but as soon as we got on and it started, he loved it – we all did. We loved the wind and the smells! Once it was done, Mater was immediately asking to go right back on! Our Fastpasses were for about an hour later, so we headed over to Nemo next and would soon be back on Soarin’ again. Mater began to get a bit droopy and not really want to walk, but it was not anywhere near as bad as the day before. He was still a bit tired and we hoped that lunch would perk him back up!

IMG_0429.jpg

We rode Nemo again, such a cute ride, then spent some time in the aquarium. I took the boys to Bruce’s Shark World and Dan went to watch the dolphins, and we met back up after a few minutes and spent about 20 minutes looking at the tanks. They loved the take with Nemo and Dory in it!

DSC01228.jpg

IMG_0437.jpg

We then went into Turtle Talk with Crush and watched that – it was SO funny – I had read it would be good but we were blown away by how funny and realistic it was.

DSC01239.jpg

It was then our FP time so back over to Soarin’ we went to ride for a second time! Again it was great. Both rides we were in the back row, but it was still a really great ride. Then, since we were right there and it was about 11:30am, we stopped for lunch at the Seasons again.

IMG_0426.jpg

This time Dan got the salmon and I got the same turkey sandwich as the day before. McQueen tried something new and got the chicken leg and mashed potatoes, and Mater got the pizza panini again.

DSC01241.jpg
IMG_0440.jpg

It was a good lunch and we were ready to head out. The plan was to head into WS and finish up the countries and the kids passports. We stopped over at the Imagination building but ended up not staying, and heading into WS instead.

IMG_0451.jpg

It has been a great mornining, although part of me felt like we really didn't get much done! But that was okay, we had fun and got to ride Soarin twice, which was really the goal for the day and the last big ride we wanted to get on.

Up Next: Epcot Afternoon: Will wakling still be Tough? What will be our last ride at WDW??

You guys were really lucky to ride Soarin' twice before lunch time. :thumbsup2 You know in all of our trips to Disney World, we have never eaten lunch or dinner at Sunshine Seasons. Don't know why but it sounds like we might need to work that into our plans for next trip.

Looking forward to more.

I'm catching up! Looks like a good start at Epcot!
Glad you all like Soarin!! We love that ride too! :goodvibes

Hey Karen!

Great Epcot update! :thumbsup2

How exciting to be looking forward to a DisneyLand trip! :woohoo:
We have yet to make it out that way....they have several theme parks out there too that look pretty fun!

Hi Karen

I just found your trip report today! So I've had plenty of reading to do!
I've really enjoyed all your photos.
Your family sounds like a very relaxed family and I love how you seemed to just go with the flow and really enjoy the little moments - yet... you also got so much done and saw and rode so many rides.

I'm pretty nervous about those big rides myself like expidition everest and space mountain but I think you and your boys have given me a bit of confidence and I may just do those scarier rides.

We are headed for DW on Dec. 27 - Jan. 1st with 2 of our adult children (ages 18 and 23) They will stay til Jan 2nd and on Jan 1st DH and I will be heading for a 7 day cruise. From reading your trip report I think a 7 day relaxing cruise will be just the thing after 5 hectic days in Disney.
We are so excited to spend New Years Eve in Epcot (DH turns 51 on Jan. 1st - and I've already got ADR's at the rose and crown pub and ordered a birthday cake and hopefully we'll get on the patio to watch the 11:45 pm illuminations!!

Well, I look forward to reading about your last day.
Thanks again. I've really enjoyed reading.

We just loved Soarin' and I'm glad we got on it twice too. By the time we got there, 9:30am, the FP were for 10:45 or so, so it worked out well to get on it twice!

You gotta try Season - really nice variety and some choices that we didn't see anywhere else in WDW! :thumbsup2

I'm catching up! Looks like a good start at Epcot!
Glad you all like Soarin!! We love that ride too! :goodvibes

Hi Karen! Hope you had a good trip! I'll be looking for your TR soon!

Hey Karen!

Great Epcot update! :thumbsup2

Thanks Heather! Yeah, not sure how much of a DL is reality yet! I checked out some pricing for next summer and was a bit suprised - seemed like 4 days in DL will cost about the same as our 10 days in WDW! We'll see, maybe I was looking at it wrong. Lots of time to watch and plan!

Hi Debbie! Welcome and thanks for joining in! Hope you have a wonderful trip in December!!! And you should definitely try SM and EE - for sure EE! I did like SM but like EE a lot more! You can do it!!!

Glad you are enjoying the TR - it's funny you say that we seem like a relaxed family - because I rarely feel so relaxed!! (and Dan is worse - I'm constantly telling him to relax!) Although we did do pretty good on this trip with being flexible and going with the flow - I didn't want to add any stress by being rigid - and in the end everything worked out great and we got everything in - not always in the order or on the day I thought we would, but we got it in.

Your plans for your DH's birthday sounds wonderful!!! And a cruise too!! :lovestruc That's on our vacation wish-list too!
