Some of you might remember my kitten saga. Basically we took in an abandoned kitten, had her chipped, vaccinated, spayed and insured and then a few weeks later...she had a terrible accident.:sad1:

Her injuries were truly awful and she wasn't expected to live. The initial treatment was £600 and I wasn't sure that the insurance would pay out. I had a terrible dilemma. We haven't got that sort of money but she was literally dying on the vet's table in front of me.

Well, I decided that she deserved a chance of life, so I took a gamble that the insurance would pay out and said, 'do what you have to'. The final emergency vet's bill came to just under £1700 and the after-care was just over £400, so £2100 in total.

She had to be on cage rest for 6 weeks and I'm pleased to say that she has made a miraculous recovery. You would never know that anything had happened to her. And the really good news? Tesco insurance has covered the bill.:banana::banana:

I was so worried as this is one third of my WDW budget and would have set us back quite considerably. It would take me more than a year to save that amount, so to say I was relieved is an understatement.;)

Great news. My dog a couple of years ago had to have a metal plate in his leg as he tore his ligaments. It cost £3500 covered by his insurance, he did the other back leg 18 months after that costing £4000:scared1: fortunately the insurance didn't query it (could have refused as they paid out for the same injury before).

It certainly pays to have insurance. Having said that my sister can no longer really insure their dog as there is so many limits as he has allergies & problems with his ears, so they are no longer covered.

cerby's been covered by tesco since he was a puppy (he's 5 and a half now), and we've never had a problem with them. he's broken a toe, had a medical need castration, and had to have the same toe amputated.
our premiums go up every year, and we know we could probably get it cheaper somewhere else, but they've always been so good with paying up, and not querying anything, that we're reluctant to move insurers.

glad your kitten is ok now :)

Our 2 springers are covered with Tescos - one of them has cost Tescos over £3k in the 8 years we have had him and they have always been fine.

The only issue we have ever had was when our old dog died they are supposed to pay £100 towards the cost of getting another dog, but because we didn't have a receipt for the dog (!) they wouldn't pay!!!

no biggie - we rescued and paid the £100 adoption fee ourselves!

Glad your kittie is better now!!

Thanks everyone.:goodvibes I was relieved to say the least.

Nice to know that insurers payout now and again :)

We shopped round on the insurance comparison sites and chose the AA to insure our doggy. Seemed to be the best cover for the money - just hope if we ever need to claim they pay up as quickly as Tesco.
