I finally found something that seems to be getting rid of our ants!

I had brought Bayer Advanced spray which I sprayed around the outside of the house for a few days - didn't work.

Every day I would see a 'scout' ant in one of rooms looking for food - I would kill them and since they had left a scent trail, another one would come back looking for food. I put out a Terro Liquid Bait on the window sill a couple of days ago and there were over a dozen ants coming for the bait - today there are none.

I also put some outdoor liquid baits outside and I haven't seen any ants out there in the last couple of days.

We LOVE this stuff - the only thing we've found that works. And we've tried a LOT of different stuff. :)

I have got to try this! We have tried everything. We even had the pest control people out to spray inside the house... since they came I haven't seen any ants in the kitchen, but I still see them in the bathrooms... they must not of sprayed well in there.

I love this stuff-it initially draws tons of ants, but then they don't come back. Fun to watch them.

Something I found on another website about ants:

Do not clean up the dead ants as the others will bring them back to the queen to eat.

I agree with the others. This is one product that really works. You get that first huge bunch of ants then after that they are nowhere to be seen.

I love Terro! You will be tempted to kill the trailing ants but don't do it. They must bring the Terro back to the queen to kill the nest.

Yep - we have to use for about one week every spring. The ants are late this year, they should show up any day now. Terri is the only thing that works.

Thanks for the tip! I've been looking for something that will get rid of these ants once and for all!

another terro supporter here. stuff works great.

Yep - this stuff works great for ants inside :thumbsup2. It comes in a small orange box, or at least it used to. I've bought it at Home Depot or Lowes.

Oh Thank God! You guys have come to my rescue. I'm going to run right out and get this stuff and get rid of our ant problem. So, since they are traps, it's safe around pets?

I got it last year after reading raves here. It is the only thing that really ever worked. Last year I got bait traps, clear plastic boxes filled with the liquid. This year it was a bottle of the liquid and a little cardboard circles to put a drop on. Hopefully it is as effective. Last year I could see all the ones that died in the trap; Good times.;)

I tried the traps and they weren't as effective as the syrup. I could add drops to the little piece of cardboard if the syrup got hard.

Here's the warnings:

Active Ingredients
Sodium Tetraborate Decahydrate Borax - 5.40%
Keep out of reach of children.

Do not use in edible product areas of food handling establishments, restaurants or other areas where food is commercially prepared or processed. Do not use in serving areas while food is exposed. Avoid contamination of feed and foodstuffs.

Place bait in areas inaccessible to children and pets.
--------------------

Because of pets and children, we have always tried to use Arm & Hammer Borax soap - or preferably powdered chalk, sprinkled all around the outside of the house - (which I believe you can get in certain hardware stores)..

Last year my son-in-law bought the Terro traps for me - even though I didn't really want to try them - and they didn't work at all with the big, black ants.. Didn't "trap" a single one.. It was really weird.. I was still overrun with ants.. So - I went back to the powdered chalk - LOL..

Good to know! Thanks!

Thanks for the info!

I think Terro is specifically for sugar ants, they are little brown things.
That's what I have. I'm definitely looking into this. My problem isn't too bad right now. We started having this problem last spring and they are going after my cats food which we keep on the lower level of the house. The cats have a problem keeping their food in their dishes.lol. I have noticed a few in the kitchen too. But, I am vigilant in keeping the kitchen clean so it hasn't been too bad yet. I just want to nip this in the bud before it becomes out of control. I think if I address the problem from the outside first that would make a world of difference. There are ants all over out in back of the house. So, thanks everyone for the great info!
