That apparently is the case. He was rushed to the hospital last night after taking 35 pain pills. They had to induce vomiting. .... breaking news.... you will be hearing more about it during the day, I am sure.

I know there's a lot of opinions of TO out there, but from one person to another (without all the media hoopla) I wish him best in recovery and righting whatever is wrong in his life.

Yeah, I agree. And I am an Eagles fan.

Wow, I've heard it reported as an allergic reaction.

One side of this is going to be very wrong. Hopefully heads will roll if people didn't get their facts straight and started reporting anyway. It's really getting out of hand and something should be done about it.

I think, after hearing this news, you have to put yourself in his position. It seems like people like that should be on top of the world - they're successful & extremely wealthy. But it must be so stressful. He's always seemed like a huge jerk, but I feel kind of sad for him right now.

I can tell you this: Last year, Hugh Douglass, a retired ex Eagle, got in a fist fight with T.O. After the fight, Douglass was contrite and said on the radio that he was not going to get on T.O. any more because he felt T.O. had mental problems. Douglass works in Philly radio and discussed this on the morning show right after the incident.

looks like it was intentional:

DALLAS - Flamboyant Dallas Cowboys receiver Terrell Owens tried to kill himself by overdosing on pain medication, even putting two more pills into his mouth after a friend intervened.

I went to look him up (never heard of him) and Wikipedia says he's dead. ???

Terrell Eldorado Owens, (born December 7th, 1973),(died September 27th , 2006) is an American football wide receiver for the Dallas Cowboys. Over his ten year career, Owens has established himself as one of the National Football League's most productive wide receivers. Despite offensive prowess on the field, Owens may be most remembered for his troublesome antics off the football field.

ETA: I refreshed the page, and now they aren't including a Death Date, but still have the line about how he'll be remembered.

Too much info. I'll wait for DH or the boys to tell me who he is. :)

Never trust the information you read on Wikipedia. Anybody can post information to a topic so the accuracy is not reliable.

So true. I always sigh when people take Wikipedia as THE SOURCE.

To the above poster: T.O. = tremendous wide rcvr in the NFL, known to have many "issues".

I didn't like him on our team, but I don't want him dead! Hope he gets the help he obviously needs.

This is just shocking and very said. Again as with the Steve Irwin incident, I cannot believe people are joking about it on the radio.

I'm still not 100% convinced he committed suicide, he took 5 pills, that doesn't seem like enough to qualify as suicide.

Love him or hate him, he gave more effort than any player in the NFL. He is heavily criticized for missing a few weeks with an injury, when Steve Smith is out for even longer with the same injury and no one says a thing in that regard.

I hope the media is happy, they finally did it.

I'm ashamed to say I had no idea who Terrell Owens was until I read this thread. I do hope he gets the help he needs if he hasn't gone too far already. :guilty:

The article I read said he took had only taken five pills prior to the attempt and at that time he took the remaining 35 out of a 40 pill perscription, even telling the EMT that he was trying to harm himself.

I just walked into the office so I haven't read anything about the incident yet, but from listening to sports radio on the way in, I got the feeling that the script was filled with 40 pills on the 18th of September and that prior to this incident he had taken 5 pills. Once help arrived the pill bottle was empty.....meaning that he took 35.

I hope he gets the help he needs too. I have never liked him as a football player due to his antics, but this is different.

1. He took 35 pills.

2. Ridiculous to say the media did it. Absolutely ridiculous. T.O. LIVES for media attention. Plus, if it was a suicide attempt, it quite likely was the result of a mental condition. Certainly not media coverage.

3. Steve Smith, though a proloific WR, plays in a small market. He gets nowhere near the coverage of a Dallas Cowboy. Plus you are wrong. He was getting PLENTY of bad publicity in the Charlotte area, and people were speculating that it was a contract ploy. Even his tream.

I wonder if all his "antics" were not actually symptoms of a larger problem? If so, then I feel bad for thinking that he was just a jerk. I hope that now that this has occurred he can get the help he needs. He has the potential to be a history making athlete if he can get his personality issues under control.
