I posted this on the disAbilities board but that I would post here as well.

DH and I are WDW vets, but we have our first West coast trip planned for August.

I walk with forearm crutches and use a wheelchair for distance. I self propel a lot at the World with DH helping as needed (hello, monorail ramps!).

What is the terrain like in the CA parks compared to FL? I'm just trying to figure out if DH is going to end up pushing or if I should be able to manage myself.

TIA!

It is pretty flat! There is a hill going up and then down into the Paradise Pier area, from the California Screamin' side, easier to enter from the Little Mermaid side.

(I notice the hills because I push my adult son in a manual chair.)

There's also a hill from New Orleans Square to Adventureland but there's a more even surface through the Frontierland oath to Adventureland.

There's also a hill from just past Haunted mansion through Critter Country.

The regular queue for space mountain also has a steep ramp incline as well as the alternative entrance.

As was stated, pretty flat all around. Your biggest difficulty would be going through ride queues.

The distances are much, much shorter at DL than at WDW. And as noted by a pp, there is a hill from Adventureland to New Orleans Square but you can go around it by walking through Frontierland.

There's also a hill between New Orleans Square and Critter Country as you pass Splash Mountain, and the path dips to go under the bridge into Toontown.

The incline going into Toontown is pretty severe. I've seen kids fall out of strollers when not secured and off laps when sitting in wheelchairs. Judging by how puddles gather when it rains I'd say there are a lot of subtle hills that someone walking might not realize that someone self-propelling will. There are also the bottlenecks to consider, you might not want to attempt crutches in TL or the Adventureland/NOS intersection or before/after parades and fireworks.

I believe that way through Frontierland is closed during the Star Wars Land construction.

I believe you're thinking of Fantasyland to Frontierland that wraps by BTMRR. That indeed IS closed , however if you walk past Golden Horseshoe keeping it to your right just past the Country store and hug the wall to your right there is a pathway to Adventureland that wraps right past the restrooms and into the Tiki Room/ Adventureland store area.
