Another "Coke" here!
I remember the first time someone asked if I wanted a pop- it was as if they were speaking another language.

The way I've always thought of it, Southerners call it coke, East coast calls it soda, and Midwesterners pop.

I was originally from Atlanta and grew up calling it coke. Moved to the Midwest where everyone said pop and if I said coke people would always explain they only had Pepsi. I just never felt comfortable saying pop though, so sort of called it by brand name.

Then I met my husband's family (from New York) and so adopted their soda term, as it somehow felt better than pop to me. At home though I only buy Coke so that's what I call it. :goodvibes

PS, people west of the Mississippi are all from one of the other three so it's a mix. ;)

1) Coke
2) Soda
3) Cola

Never pop. Firecrackers pop. My caffein free, all natural, no crap added Whole Foods 365 Coke does not pop. :)

The first time I met some of my inlaws (from Texas) they asked if I wanted a glass of 'soda water'.....kinda freaked me out as all I could think of was how my mother used to put a pinch of baking soda in a glass of water & drink it for heartburn..:lmao:

We say soft drink.

BTW, it doesn't take a while lot to get something started on the transportation thread! :rotfl:

poster 1-"We're at WDW and it's a beautiful sunny day."
poster 2-"Umm, no there are clouds."
poster 1-"Yes, but it's still sunny."
poster 2-"It's cloudy with a bit of sun."
poster 3- "It's partly sunny."
poster 4-"It's partly cloudy."
50 other posters chime in and the thread breaks down into the weather in the Indian Ocean and Hurricane Katrina.
Overworked mod-The conclusion is yes, there is a sun and yes there are clouds. This thread is now closed.

It was always tonic here in New England

My kids generation all call it soda though and without the Boston accent :sad2:

The world is getting smaller

It's all Coke here in Texas.

I use the term coke most often, referring to cola drinks. In general though, I call it soda. I hear pop mostly up in the northeast and when I went to Canada.

In Florida and California, soda is the most common term.

Ha, this reminds me of those "you know you're from ..... when" and the one for Oregon. There's one that says, "When the forecast reads partly sunny one day and partly cloudy the next day and you know there's a difference."

Partly sunny is when it's mostly cloudy and part of it is sunny. Partly cloudy is when it's mostly sunny and part of it is cloudy. Duh. ;)

Careful about bringing up closed threads though, I think it's points-worthy. Just hope that no one from there goes here.

This wasn't a closed thread. It was just one I made up to show how things can go. Of course, this is not limited to just that particular board. :)

Soda here---Pop is someones grandpa LOL--would be strange to hear someone order a pop!

Glad I started this, it has been enlightening on how much the terminology is different all over.

Thanks everyone for sharing!!!!!:thumbsup2

Born and raised in Virginia and it's either soda or Coke...not pop.
