Stress relief...
Jigsaw puzzles. We always have one set up in our group meeting room at work. Various faculty/staff/grad students will float in, work on it a bit, and float out. It's a nice break, and very different from lab work or grading papers and reports.

Driving. I love to drive, all alone, singing with the radio, windows open. In the winter I blast the heat and STILL open the windows.

I know this is only two. Maybe I need to work on creating more "me" things and less "manage a family and a job and a house" things.

Stress relief? There is a way to relieve stress, hahaha?
😂 this is how I feel every time I go to work.

Good Morning/Afternoon everyone!

1. Driving - like leebee, I totally agree with the driving on your own, windows down and music playing as loudly as possible and singing along. For me I need this as a stress reliever as I spend so much time stuck in traffic!

2. Junk food - I can't lie, junk food is an especially good stress reliever, especially chocolate, snacks and the odd takeaway or pizza. Usually followed by some remorse afterwards but at the time its very much appreciated.

3. Holidays - in recent years I've become to appreciate how good for you holidays(vacations) are. Not only is the holiday itself a nice well break and stress reliever to your daily life, but the countdown to the holiday is too as from the moment you get it booked its something to look forward to and really keeps you going in stressful times.

On that note, I'm in the process of planning and close to booking my next WDW trip in April/May next year, which is certainly lifting my spirits :-)

Agree to everything you said about WDW vacation. I am happier and less stressed and crabby when I know I am officially going to my happy place. I need something to look forward to.

View attachment 986266 ⬅️ These ones (They're only orange on the inside.)
These variety takes a while to ripen and then difficult to tell if ripe...so I only purchase them when on sale. The other variety.. cashew shape are like peaches so if you like the photo variety.. don't try the smaller yellow variety. Fortunately I live on the border and this fruit is super cheap in only one store chain that sells Mexico produce cheap

Eric Liddell's quote from chariots of fire movie on a Sunday morning pulpit

They who wait for the Lord shall renew their strength and mount up with wings like eagles 🦅🦅🦅🦅
They shall run
And not be stressed
They shall walk
And not be stressed

Eric went on to win gold medal 🏅 🏅 🏅...in a race he had never ran

Stress relievers . . .

Writing - it takes me into a world where I have total control and anything can happen. If I want my characters to be rich and eat nothing but chocolate, they do. There are no issues with illness, finance, or anything else that can cause stress unless I say so and I can banish them with a few clicks on my keyboard.

Chocolate - there’s a reason why I said my characters can eat nothing but chocolate 😉 Planning to bake some brownies tomorrow as a matter of fact.

A low energy vacation - somewhere I can sit on a balcony or under a shade tree and just be. No schedule, no responsibilities, no effort. There’s nothing wrong with a busy vacation, but they usually aren’t stress free. Sometimes you are looking for the adrenaline, sometimes you’re not.

Yup, that's a good one. We just returned from visiting my sister and BIL in NOLA, where we spent our days lounging around the house, playing games, indulging in happy hours, and visiting wonderful restaurants. The biggest decisions of the week were where to go to eat. It was so relaxing! Now I'm home, and after one day back at work, my neck muscle is cramped up again. Sigh... but August is coming, and on the 16th we are off for a week at the beach, where once again, the big decisions will be about food: Lobster or scallops, grill in the yard or go out to dinner!

Today is...IMG_0305.jpeg
and...
IMG_0306.jpeg

so if you have cousins and would like to give them a shout-out, please do! Otherwise,

Today's Topic (Thu, 7/24) - 3 beverages you're grateful for

Stress-relief:
  • reading
  • being outside
  • having a cat on my lap
(...bonus when I can do all 3 at once!)

Cousins:
  • My cousin T~~~, for endless adventures as kids because we lived in the same town
  • My cousin K~~~, because she lives the closest now, and I get to play auntie to her kids
  • My other cousin T~~~, for all the hand-me-downs over the years
Beverages:
  • coffee, always coffee!
  • lemonade, especially the ones with other fruits mixed in for fun
  • the occasional glass of wine or beer

Beverages . . .

Harney and Sons Hot Cinnamon Sunset tea - I could drink this all day, hot or iced. The perfect tea to compliment a cinnamon roll for breakfast.

Water with lots of ice on a hot day (been drinking a lot of this lately). I want the glass filled with ice so the water is super cold.

Hot chocolate - the good stuff, not the powder in hot water.

HUGE shout out to my "Bick......." cousins! (Yeah, that's the family name and I'm not posting it even though I'm OK with that- seems to make folks nervous though.) These are the offspring of my dad's siblings. We try to get together annually, although I know that smaller groups get together at random times. Due to a falling out between my aunts/uncles and my mother after my father died, we lost touch with my cousins for about 35 years, which makes me doubly-triply grateful to be in touch with them again!

Cousin C... She lives closest to my sister, so when I go visit at my sister's we usually get together with C for dinner. C is funny, smart, sarcastic, and a joy to be around! She teaches in the public schools, as did I for 10 years and now 8 years at the University level, so we always have work-stories over which to commiserate and laugh as well as just enjoying our time together.

Cousin D- D is actually my second cousin, but her mother, my first cousin, is enough older that D is closer in age to me than is the first cousin! D is always willing to open her home (and her pool) to us whenever we can get out to see her. She and her mom live a good distance from us so we go see them... the mom is in her late 80s and doesn't travel well, but we are always happy to go see them (ROAD TRIP!!).
