We have awful neighbors! They are a small family of three, but the parents are never there, so it's this terrible 19 or so kid with his friends all the time. I have a dog who likes to bark, naturally, because he's a hunting dog. When he barks, he sometimes plays high pitched sounds out of a speaker, like that will make him stop! And the other day, he threw a pickle, yes, a pickle, at my dog to shut him up. We are polite neighbors, when he barks a lot early in the morning, late a night, or even dutring the day, we will quiet him and/or bring him in.

Now, he has been acting very tired and utterly calm, which is not at all like him. We are bringing him to the vet for a blood test and x-ray, thinking that this could be brought on by this garbagehead kid. we have already told him that we will press charges against him if anything is wrong with the dog... so frustrating...

Sorry about your crappy neighbors. Seems like more and more neighbors are less "neighborly"

I sincerely hope your dog is okay. It's scary when a pet is ill. :(

I know you said you are polite and bring him in when he "barks a lot" but "barks a lot" is subjective....perhaps what you might think of as "a little barking" is a lot to your neighbors. Perhaps you can take some measures to eliminate the barking altogether, as it seems that is what sparking your complaints about your neighbors? Like they say, an ounce of prevention is worth a pound of cure!

I hope your doggie is ok. It seems like you just never know what people will do these days. :(

Bedknoberry, i appreciate your insight, but there are dogs all over our neighborhood, and dogs abrk. When one dog barks, the next dog barks, and soon, the street is barking, lol. They just need to deal with it. It's not like we let him poop in their yard. We have an electric fence to make sure he doesn't go out of our yard. Then tyhere's these jerks, who could be feeding him drugs for all we know...

Your poor doggie!:( It amazes me what people will do to dogs. A family that lives 2 streets over has a little dog. They live on a corner lot with a chain link fenced yard. At night, kids throw firecrackers at the dog when he's outside. It boggles the mind!

I hope your puppy is OK.

I hope your doggie is okay!

When I was growing up we had a little house dog (Boston Terrier). My dad let her out (into our fenced back yard) really early in the morning. A few hours later I went outside looking for her because she wasn't coming when I called. She was in our side yard with a cut up tin can attached to her collar. Poor thing was terrified and couldn't even move without hurting herself. We never figured out who did it.

It's horrible to have to suspect your neighbors of hurting your dog. We have bad neighbors too and anytime there is any kind of disturbance I get extra careful with my dog!

Be careful with those neighbors - ours had my husband arrested for a dog barking. The police came to our house and since he was already dressed in his softball uniform to go play a game for his team at work, the police let him come to the jail and turn himself in after the game. LOL Then the magistate released him on his own recognizance and during the "trial" the magistate barked like a dog to be funny because he thought it was utterly ridiculous. He had to pay $25 and was furious at our neighbor. Her husband had recently died and I think she was extra sensitive to our dog barking. He would bark at night when teenagers walked up and down the street. When our neighbor moved, we nearly threw a party.

The thought of anyone harming your dog is awful but I do wonder about the amount of barking going on. I guess I'm a little sensitive to it too because we once had a neighbor who's dog barked for at least half the day with most of that at night. This neighbor also said the barking wasn't that bad but it was that bad! Of course, we didn't raise a fuss but just moved ASAP when attempting to discuss it didn't help.

I'm assuming that your dog just barks a bit when someone is out and then gets quiet like the dogs around us do? This kid is being unfair and a pest then. I hope that your pup gets better soon.

As much as I love animals, I don't want to hear them....for more than 5 minutes or so. That's already too much barking. Our former neighbors (behind us) had 2 poodles & they yapped all the time. It was sooooo annoying. I'm so glad they moved away & took those 2 barking dogs with them! Too me constant barking dogs is as offensive as loud music coming from their homes.

On the other hand, I surely hope that your neighbor didn't do anything to harm your dog. I hope it's just a stomach flu or something like that. Good luck!

Do you know if your dog's barking when you're not home?

I ask because:

Our nextdoor neighbors, whom we absolutely adore to no end...recently got a hunting dog (why do people in suburbs who don't even hunt get hunting dogs?) who barks all day long.

They come home, and of course, the dog stops barking. They have no idea what he's been doing all day. He's happy that Mommy and Daddy are there to play with him.

I know how annoyed WE get, and we LOVE our neighbors...I can imagine how annoyed someone who doesn't know you might get.

But I'm on your side if they hurt your baby...there's just no excuse for MEAN-NESS!!!

I know how you feel. When I was a kid a family moved in next door to us. They had a boy about a year younger than me who made my life a living nightmare. Their family hated ours and we hated them.
One day for some reason both me and my sister happened to be looking out the kitchen window to see "psycho boy" throw some liquid into my cat's eyes. Him being as stupid as he was threw the plastic cup that had held the liquid on the ground so I quickly ran over and got it after he left. It smelled of different household cleaning products.
So the cops were called and the kid was charged with cruelty to animals but not before his father tried to switch cups which the officer caught and then asked him sarcastically "Do I look stupid to you?" I still remember that police officer fondly. :teeth:
The only motive that kid had was that he didn't like us. My poor cat never bothered him. Oh, btw my kitty recovered just fine.

I have a neighbor who, after living on my street for 2 weeks, called me one day to let me know that my dog, who had barked for 30 seconds at a passing truck, was bothering her at 2PM!!!!!! I told her that when my dog's barking was bothering her at 2AM, then she could call me. This same neighbor also told her next-door neighbor that the sensor lights on the house interfered with their "star gazing". They indicated that they were people who liked "space" and "privacy"...well, why buy a house on a street where all the houses are on 50 x 100 lots! I can hear my next door neighbor's phone ring in the summer when the windows are open, for crying out loud!

The people who lived in that house before these newer neighbors did the same thing. Every time my dog would make a peep, they'd call the dog warden. Finally, unbeknownst to me, they had the dog warden come and sit in their driveway for a day. Their driveway is hidden from my house by a big hedge, so I didn't know he was there. Anyhow, the dog warden, after spending a day sitting in these people's driveway, told them that my dog was not a nuisance, was not barking excessively, and if they called again and he came out and found this same situation, he would give them a summons for filing a false complaint. That seemed to solve the problem.

I really hope your dog is okay, I wouldn't wish anything on him. But again sometimes the barking of dogs is okay with the owner but not the rest of the world. We had a dog out the back of us that would bark when we went outside. When my 2 dgrdd's would come over he would bark enough that my youngest one stopped going outside because she was by then afraid of him. There are fences so nothing would have happened to her but she was too young to reason that out. After a full summer of it we finally called the town (they said there was no problem). The town sent someone who listened and then talked to them because they did decide it was a problem. It stopped but I think they now have a different dog, and it is starting to do the same thing. I don't mind dogs but I don't have one and I really don't care to listen to barking for a length of time. There are lots of other dogs in the neighbourhood but you hardly ever hear them.

Wow, some stories... anyway, just to clear it up, he only barks at certain times, being:

When the garbage truck comes on friday mornings around 10:00pm

When a cat runs through our yard

When the idiot next door plays high pitched noise out of a speaker just to annoy him

and when the dog behind our house excessively barks...

I admit, dog barking can be very annoying, but this is not even a regualar basis. It's just very angering that someone would resort to violence and cruelty to an animal, instead of either, speaking with us (which they have NEVER once done), or even telling someone about, but some idiots just resort to violence.

BTW i might sound kind of mean in this theead, but i'm really not. We just have a very bad history with these people (Their son once chased me with a flaming torch when i was about 8!) Just know that i really am not as harsh as i sound in this thread, lol, but i guess we all have our weaknesses, as well as strengths...

I don't know all your specifics but two of the most annoying things to me personally are barking dogs and noisy teenagers
I hope your dog is safe and sound
I am a dog and cat owner
my dog is not a barker and is never kept outside
I would be driven insane by a barking dog it really is inconsiderate
and what a pet owner might feel is not alot of barking may actually be driving them nuts
on the other hand the teenager is probably driving you nuts
I'd try to talk to the parents to try to avoid any further hard feelings on either side
maybe you can both be understanding and end up still speaking
best of luck
