prepare to be shocked by my stupidity! :)

Okay there are two different menus so I assume they are two different restaurants. Naturally I assume they are both in the Japan pavillion, but where? Are they both upstairs? Across from the koi pond? That is the stupidity part.

Now for my not so stupid questions! Which is better? It looks like Tokyo dining has more sushi. My husband can't stand fish or nori so he doesn't touch the stuff. I love it, but I don't eat it on vacation because there is a risk to eating raw fish and I would prefer not to risk it.

We saw some pictures of the steak and chicken 'grilled' meals (at Teppan Edo) and the hubby thinks it looks good. So what do you guys think? Which one should we visit?

Thanks!

Hi there!

Yes, they are two different restaurants. Depends on if you want the 'cook in front of you' style at Teppan Edo or the traditional sit down restaurant at Tokyo Dining.

I have to tell you....every time we visit WDW we make it a point to eat at Teppan Edo. I would say this is easily one of the top three restaurants in Disney for my family. You simply cannot beat the combination of a great show and superb food cooked right in front of you. I highly recommend it if you have the time (and the $$!) :thumbsup2

I would definately do Teppan Edo. We must eat at this restaurant every time we go to Disneyworld. Tokyo Dining is nice, but you get a great show with Teppan Edo. I always have to get the scallops! To me, Teppan Edo is so much more memorable.

Definitely Teppan Edo. Their filet mignon was the best....so tasty and far better than the steak I had at le cellier the day before! Plus its very entertaining. my son loves this place as well.

I generally don't eat at either, but I lived in Japan for many years and, like your husband, I don't eat any seafood at all.

There are a few gems on the Tokyo Dining menu that are not fishy -- specifically the chicken katsu with tonkatsu sauce. It's a deep-fried chicken cutlet in panko that's fried at a higher temperature than we use for our fried foods here, and the tonkatsu sauce is great.

Tokyo Dining is a somewhat more upscale experience. Teppan Edo is the kind of Japanese food tourists look for -- the benihana-style restaurant is definitely not as popular in Japan as people think (and they're often in the big hotels). I'm not saying that's bad -- just trying to inform your decision in case you're looking for a certain experience as well as specific food.

FWIW, family eats the sushi there all the time, no problems. I wouldn't worry too much about that, it's Disney World -- they're not going to serve anything remotely chancey.

So I'll probably be in the minority, but we prefer Tokyo Dining by a looonnng mile. To us Teppan Edo, while of adequate quality, is really no different than eating at any other hibatchi (benihana) style restaurant in any city. It's just not that special for us.

Tokyo Dining we find to be a bit more sophisticated, quieter, and more relaxing. While we enjoy the sushi, there is more to the menu than just that.
Is it the same as you would find in Japan? Probably no more than Via Napoli is truly representative of an upscale place in Naples. ;) But as a 'flavour of Japan', we enjoy the experience.

And OP: regarding the location of the restaurants, they are upstairs above the department store.

Count me as preferring Tokyo Dining too, you are not alone!

We tried Teppan Edo a few years ago, really no different from out local Japanese Tepanyaki places, and because they have industrial strength exhaust fans over the grills it was LOUD. Everyone speaking louder to be heard over the roar of the fan.

Tokyo Dining is quiet and much more refined. I like the sushi, DH doesn't care for it. They do have tempura too, and a small but well prepared selection of plain grilled beef, chicken, or salmon with various sauces, white rice, and a side veggie. DH often orders the grilled items and says they are better than at some of the other restaurants.

They are both upstairs over the store. Take the big staircase in front of the store or the elevator to the left of the front entrance. This is the front as it faces the walkway of WS, not the big entrance facing into the Japan pavillion area. Check in for both is at the same desk.

I wouldn't suggest Teppan Edo. I found the food quite disappointing, as well as the atmosphere.

Awesome thanks everyone! Not sure which I will choose yet, I think I will try to dig up some more photos of the food at both.

Cheers! :cool1:
