If you have been to both restaurants, which one would you say is better? I have never been to TE, but have been to Benihana. Just curious if I should stop crossing this restaurant off the list because I have "done that" elsewhere.

THANKS

Hard to say if one is better than the other. My BF and I love Benihana, go there quite often. However, we also went to Teppan Edo on our last trip. We were a little unsure, because like you said, it's a "been there, done that" feeling. We really enjoyed Teppan Edo anyway. It's a bit different. You get udon noodles with your entree, which are delicious. I also really enjoyed the chocolate ginger cake they had for dessert. It might be worth a shot.

"Been there, done that" is EXACTLY why I haven't booked Teppan Edo in the past. It makes no sense, though, because this Japanese type of dinner/presentation is my kids' FAVORITE restaurant experience in the "real world"! So, we are planning on booking it for our December trip :thumbsup2

ETA: I just realized you are our December trip thread "organizer" :) I just joined earlier! Thank you for getting it all together!

I would have to say Teppan Edo is a step above Benihana.

I'll qualify my response by stating that the Benihana by us was a dump the last time I was there, and that was some time ago. The place was a mess and the service was horrible. The food was just ok.

The hibachi "show" is pretty much the same (as it is at every hibachi place I've ever been to).

I have no doubt that you'll enjoy Teppan Edo even if it is kind of a "been there" type of thing for you. You can't beat the setting.

We have done both within 6 months of each other. We thought the food was better at Benihana but the presentation was more fun at Disney.

No friend rice, just white rice and noodles. And their version on Yum Yum sauce!

The rice isn't plain, it's with beef sukiyaki.

EDIT: oops, somehow didn't read @Figmentmommy 's reply first!

WE always make a reservation at Teppan Edo, because it's our family tradition basically. We always enjoy it so much, and love spending time in Japan.

we love Teppan Edo and we love Benihana.
TE plusses -.. the staff is actually Asian, if not Japanese (but I think they are), its in EPCOT... its fun :)
Benihana Plusses - its a lot closer to home. the CFR is awesome..

Teppan Edo is better and better quality. Orlando has Kobe right down the street and though its been years I remember that one being the best food.

We have Kobe here at home, which is my first choice! Benihana and Teppan Edo tie, in my book, but we like Benihana better. At TE, be prepared for no soup and no salad with your meal- it's just the entree and rice/noodle (can't remember which). We did TE one trip, just to say we've done it, and came out shaking our heads. Joke's on us- we just paid $10 more per person for the exact same thing we get at home. (at least we were on "free dining" so it didn't hurt as much!)

To work in a WS country, you have to be that nationality :) So yes, they are Japanese nationals!

I have been to two Benihanas (west coast and east coast). The one in Monterey is very good. Always crowded, but in tourist area by Fisherman's Wharf. The one in Atlanta is not as busy but good. Overall I would say
Benihana is better.

Adult entrees get salad as well as the noodles, vegetables, and rice.

I personally like Benihana better. You get fried rice (which is my favorite part) and a soup and salad. I think both are pretty similar with the shows. I've seen pictures that do more Disney designs, but the two times I've been they didn't. But it is a lot of food and not as expensive as some Disney restaurants and still pretty good. I like to try everything at least once. I think after you go you should decide if it's something you'd want to go back to

We like TE better than any of the similar choices at our city. Of course, it is similar to all other hibachi restaurants. But my kids love it, and I do too. I'm the only "foodie" in the family, so it's tough for me to get the crew to pick something more adventurous. But even so, I'm never disappointed with my meal at TE.

Every Benihana that I have eaten at since I was a child, including one in Oklahoma I think, was better than Teppan Edo.
