We have never ate at either of these places and I need help trying to decide which would be better.

This won't help much - but we are trying Teppan Edo for the first time this trip too! Good luck deciding.

If this helps--Teppan Edo is the habachi style Japanese cooking where the other is the traditional Japanese resturant. I prefer the Edo and like my food cooked in front of me.

I'm not sure I'm gonna be much help either , but I just made a ressie for Tokyo Dining. I understand the difference between the two is that Teppan Edo is a hibachi-style restaurant, where you sit around the grill, and the food prep is part of the entertainment, whereas Tokyo Dining is a tempura/sushi place. My niece ate at TD a couple of months ago and said it was great. My kids love those hibachi places, and for any birthday or celebration, they want to go to Miyako's or Sakura's. Personally I'm over it, I've seen the onion volcano many times, had the shrimp thrown at me and never can catch it. And I love sushi. I think they're both good, just depends on what you're into. If you've got kids along, they'd probably prefer Teppan Edo.

We did Tokyo Dining last year and were very happy to score a window table that we could watch Illuminations from! I'm a sushi fan, and both of us got Bento boxes. We also ordered sushi as an appetizer. So yummy and lovely!

We chose Tokyo Dining over Teppan Edo for the food. I'm not such a fan of the hibachi.

At the time, Tokyo Dining was pretty empty but Teppan Edo had lots of people waiting. They share a common waiting area, so it can get kinda crowded.

The only disappointment was dessert, kinda bland. But after all that good food, it was ok!

Like you, we had to choose between Tokyo Dining or Teppan Edo. We chose Teppan Edo because we don't have this type of teppanyaki cooking where we live. It's all mostly sushi (since we live on the west coast) and cooked foods made in a kitchen. So the cooking in front of you gimmick, with the volcano tower of onions, sounded pretty cool to us.

Plus, we went to Teppan Edo (called Tepanyaki Grill then) when we were in WDW in 2005 and enjoyed it a lot. The food was good and the cooking entertainment was fun to watch.

Well...I can give you a one sided answer. ;)
We just tried Teppan Edo for the first time 2 weeks ago. It was our favorite meal of the week. Our kids are 5 & 7 and they loved the *show*. They sat with open mouths as they watched the chef prepare their dinner. Both kids had the chicken, I had the filet and DH had the shrimp. Both kids ate every single bite of their meal. They loved all the dipping sauces. DS5 also ate a LOT of DH's shrimp. ;)They both ate the noodles, rice, and veggies. My filet was melt in your mouth perfect, the shrimp was fantastic. It was our kids one *must do again* for our next trip. :)

We made a last minute ADR for Tokyo Dining last month and it was one of the best meals we had! Our ADR was on the later side of the evening and we were lucky enough to score a perfect window seat where watched Illuminations while we ate.

The food was excellent (two of us had the Bento Box, too) as was the service. This was the first time we'd taken our boys since they were small (back when it was still mostly hibachi-style cooking) and they LOVED the "new" restaurant. The poster that said that dessert was a little disappointing is right, I think you only have two choices and neither of them were terribly exciting. I want to say you could either have soft serve vanilla ice cream or green tea custard/pudding.

IIRC, Teppan Edo tables were in "rooms" off of the main dining room and looked a little "claustrophobic" to me.

I would absolutely eat at Tokyo Dining again!

Thank you for everyone's replies. Right now we have ADR's for Teppan Edo, but I was wondering if we would be better off at Tokyo dining. I think my children (12 & 8) will enjoy Teppan Edo more. Thanks everyone.:flower3:
