Teppan Edo for infants?

Personally I would not think it was the best choice for young children but that it is me. I'm sure many people do eat there with their young kids. They cook the food at the table so there is a hot open cooking surface right at the table. I believe they try to position children away from the cooking area.

I was also concerned about the hot cooking surface in front of my children. A friend of mine told me that she recently ate at a different Teppan-Edo-like restaurant and she said that flames shot out of the grill when it was lit and it scared her 4 year old son so much that he could relax the entire meal. Does this happen at Teppan Edo?

I would think not.

All the tables at Teppan Edo are designed for eight people to dine. And they will combine parties to fill in all eight seats if at all possible. The infant will take up a seat and there is no place near the table to place an infant carrier.

They warn you several times that the grill is at 500 degrees. Bringing a toddler with you can be hazardous (to the toddler). And also, if you are sharing the table with others, the two year old might be very annoying to them.

We didn't eat at Teppan Edo when we were there last month but we have a Japanese restaurant in our town that does the cooking in a similar style. We took our kids there last year (ages 2, 2, and 4) and they were scared to death of all the flames/fire. Our cook at this place put on a very nice show but my kids were hiding under the table. We haven't been back since. I would consider waiting until your kids a older.

But they would only sit you at a table where there are parents and little kids, too. When they combine groups they try to keep all adult groups with all adult groups.

Personally I wouldn't take infants and toddlers. I would wait till they are at least 3 so they have a better understanding of the words no and hot.

Yeah, that happened to us...I though DD (4) was going to climb on top of my head.

I'll be the voice of the opposition here... When we went, the party we were seated with had a little one, and the waitress recommended seating him at the corner of the table. From that position, a baby/toddler would have to be standing in his high chair to reach the cooking surface. And a 2 month old isn't going to be mobile enough to pose a problem at all. True, there isn't much room for an infant carrier, but that's true at just about every Disney restaurant we've been to because of the way they pack the tables in!

We haven't taken DD8mo to Disney yet, but she's been to a Teppan Edo type restaurant in the real world without difficulty. If you want to try it, I'd say go for it.

How is the food there? We are thinking of it for our next trip.

We ate at Teppan Edo last September with our boys who were 3 and 11 months at the time. This wasn't the first time they had been to a Japanese steakhouse, so we pretty much knew what to expect. We seated both boys near the corner of the table, one in a booster, one in a highchair. We have never been concerned about them getting burned. They know to stay in their chairs and if they did get up, we're right there. Both of them loved watching the chef and had a great time. Teppan Edo does not do a big fireball like some other places we have been to - in fact, we went to one last weekend in our hometown and that part did scare DS3. No flames at Teppan Edo.

As for the food, we thought it was very good. One of the better meals we had on property. The kids meal was very cute - served in a plate/bowl shaped like a monorail car. They even brought the kids meal out before our food was ready so that they didn't have to wait. We are still debating whether we want to be tied to ADRs for this trip, but if we do, we will definitely return to Teppan Edo. :thumbsup2

My daughter at age 4 was terrified of the fire, we had to take her out until it was cooked. I would wait on this one until your kids are older. It takes a while too and they may get restless and since you are seated with other couples, it could be annoying to them.

I would go in a heartbeat. I was there in January with my DD2 and back when she was 2 months. As long as you pay attention to your child, I don't think there is any danger. She sat in the highchair and there is no way she could reach the grill, unless she stood up in her chair. I just had to watch and make sure that she didn't push her plastic sippy cup onto the grill! If I remember, there isn't any fire coming out of the grill. She liked watching the show (the chef) and playing with her chopsticks.

We are planning on eating there twice in August. The food is AWESOME!! My DD also loved the noodles.

The only BAD part about the whole restaurant is that the changing table is in the handicap stall, so when my DD had an icky accident on her princess dress, we had to wait for the stall. (to this day, she still remembers how she did stinky on her dress and mommy had to wash it!):rotfl:

Unless your two year old likes that kind of food or likes new kinds of food, I'd say no. Doesn't really matter about the 2 mo old since he/she's not eating food anyway! :)
