Teppan Edo? Average to good?

Thoughts?

We've never eaten sit down at Japan in all the years we've been coming to Disney.
We are trying to steer clear of our usual spots at Epcot, so this is on our short list.

I'm not expecting the best food I've ever eaten, but is it a fun, "disney" eating experience with decent to good food?

Or maybe Biergarten instead?
:D

It's just okay. We ate there a couple of years ago, before Covid. It was very crowded and they really packed you in at those tables. I remember feeling very squeezed in, didn't like that.

My DH and I always enjoy Teppan Edo. We've been very fortunate to sit with fun people, too. Not sure how they are handling now with Covid.

What's your group? We have 2 kids, and this has been a fun sit-down at various ages for them. They don't view it as a waste of valuable park time. I think it's better than Benihana, but not as good as our locally-owned hibachi place. A WONDERFUL break from fried foods and lots of veggies.

Never been to Beirgarten though.

4 adults! But we are fun. :D

Teppan Edo is very good from a food and service perspective. Not unlike local hibachi places near me so to the extent you have places like it near you, the level of fun or uniqueness may vary. I went back in March, I believe, and was uncomfortable with the seating arrangements. We were a party of 3 sat with a party of 5 so every spot at the table was occupied with a small (in my opinion) plexi divider between me and a member of the other party. At the time I was not vaccinated but now am and am still not sure I'm ready for sitting shoulder to shoulder with a stranger ... but of course we all have individual levels of comfort.

I also tried Biergarten for the first time post-pandemic (I'm not a buffet fan). They were serving family style and seating just one party per table (I think that's still the case, but subject to change). I can't rave about the food - it was good and plentiful and I left satisfied, just not sure it's something I'll specifically crave in the future. BUT the atmosphere and the band was outstanding and very unique. Really fun atmosphere.

It's good food, just VERY overpriced vs. what you can get in many other equivalent (and sometimes better) places off property. The portion size is disappointing for the price, too (putting that mildly :)) But I've never had a bad experience there.

It is a little bizarre they don't serve fried rice, though, which is one of my favorite parts of hibachi places. And they don't do fire tricks anymore either (just like benihana).

You have the perfect frame of mind.
In the realm of overpriced Disney food, I don't think it's too far away from the decent value scale. Hopefully you get a chef that likes to ham it up a little. The food is DECENT, nothing great, but shouldn't be any risk of being bad. My view of WDW food is more like "damage control" for the prices, and for my tastes, I think Teppan Edo is all around "decent."

This is an excellent point. If you have a similar place near your home then it probably doesn't make sense to do it at WDW at a much higher price.

I would imagine we do, but it's not somewhere we would normally choose to go.

We were thinking it would be a fun Disney experience and trying to find new places at Epcot.

One of our favorites but hibachi is a favorite and such a treat. So always make a reservation there. Depending on restaurants reopening by my September trip, I may book it for 2 visits while there.

We ate at Teppan Edo last week and we loved it as usual. We are huge Asian food fans and would have liked to eat at Takumi - Tei but since its not open we ate there instead. They only seat about 2 familys per table right now with a plastic barrier between the parties. Our table only had 5 people, the 2 of us and a family of 3 at the other end, so even with the barrier we werent that close to the other party. Our waitress was amazing, our chef was so fun and we thought the food was pretty decent from the beer flight to the cucumber salad, fresh veggies and my chicken was juicy and nicely flavored and my husbands filet mignon was great too. Yes, it was expensive, but most Disney restaurants are and we throughly enjoyed it. Is it gourmet, no, but we are happy eating there once a trip.

I enjoy it! The steak was very good for a hibachi place. A little expensive but the chefs were great.

Get the sake flight if you're a fan of trying new drinks.

I think it's solid food and a fun time, but of course high priced. If you are a meat eater, it's worth paying extra for the filet vs the sometimes rubbery steak that comes with the combo meals.

Their food is good, not special. We have similar to much better hibachi style places at home which is why we rarely dine there. Never had a bad meal.
Describing it as an expensive Benihana is a fair description.

We’ve also enjoyed it. It is on the expensive side, but the food is pretty good, and the cast members have been great. We’ve eaten there in 2020 in August and December, and they had moveable plexiglass barriers. We had the last seating on a weekday each time though, so it was not crowded and at the end of the meal, they escorted us out of the park towards the exit.

The chef was great, and the cast members went above and beyond each time. We went for my daughter’s birthday, and when they noticed her celebration button, they sprinkled pixie dust. They all stopped to sing happy birthday to my daughter and gave her special treats throughout the meal like a chef hat and free dessert.

In my opinion, Biergarten is something that is unique that I would only experience at Disney. The food is ok, but the beer and the band are excellent! I can go eat at a hibachi grill anytime.
