Tepanyaki Question

I'd really be grateful if someone could describe for me how the foods are served at Tepanyaki. I have looked at the menu on allearsnet and I know my kids would be fascinated by the place. Basically I'm wondering if the grilled foods are spiced in any way or if they are mainly flavored by the grilling itself. Stir fried or grilled beef, chicken and veggies sound great, but I don't think my bunch would go for the oriental sauces (other than soy, they do like soy). Very finicky bunch, I'm afraid. just a little salt and pepper while cooking on the flat grill. it is a lot like a benihana restaurant.

My DDs both LOVE yakitori house chicken skewers, but were less than thrilled about teppanyaki chicken. I was able to detect a tiny taste of I think ginger?? on the chicken. I didn't really think it was a big deal, but the kids basically didn't eat anything but their ice cream. They did enjoy the show. Luckily, my older DD and I were sharing a dinner, so we didn't lose out much on her meal and my DH ate my younger DDs chicken, so we weren't out much.

We had two dipping sauces that were on the side in little saucers.

I get the tempura platter with beef, chicken, shrimp and vegetables.

The chicken, shrimp and vegetables are good but the beef is terrible. It's chewy and gross and tastes like really really bad quality meat.

But other than that, it's a cool restaurant. The drinks are really good.

And it is one of the absolute best places to view IllumiNations.

We love Tepanyaki and go every year. I always get the shrimp and filet and it's really good. My DD who is 3 1/2 now loves the show and the food.

We have dined at Tepanyaki since the boys were little. It was the only place that they would eat all of their vegtables.

Probably our favorite place at Epcot right now. You don't have to worry about the sauces they are served in little dishes for dipping. We'll be there on Wednesday for supper, can't wait.

I have picky eaters too and they love this place. It is the first requested restraunt every time we start planning. I can't detect much besides the grilling taste on the chicken and shrimp. The shrimp was the best I've ever had on our last trip. Maybe that is because there isn't much fresh shrimp in Ohio these days.

The food is all cooked separately...the meat is separate, the veggies are separate, the rice, etc. I think they use some butter, oil, salt and pepper, but that's about it. The sauces are served in little dishes on the side for dipping. My kids loved this place, and ate every bite (they were 7 and 3 at the time and shared a kids chicken meal...the waitress was very accomodating and even gave us two kids drinks and two ice creams for the price of one kids meal...awesome!!) and the boys even got a little adventurous and tried the sauces. You can really be as plain as you want with Japanese food...it's not like Chinese food at all, if that is your concern.

Have fun...it was the most relaxed meal we had (aside from the Sci Fi) because our kids were thoroughly entertained and even ate with chop sticks!
