So with going in October what types of things should be expected? Weather activities etc. It will be a standard water and electrical site what areas would people reccomend? All sugestions would be helpfull.

There will be 4 children attending the youngest will be 16 months old then a 5 year old turning 6 while there a 7 year old and a 12 year old.

we have camped at the Fort in our pop up (tent trailer) in October before. the weather can be quite mild and enjoyable. it can still be quite warm, but in general, not as steamy as August or Sept. you should bring along pants and a light jacket just incase it gets unseasonably chilly. We found it comfortable enough to sleep without the air conditioning on in the camper in Oct. We kept the bunk ends open and it was quite pleasant.

Crowds weren't too bad either....not as light as Sept, but no where near July or August crowds.

Park hours are a little longer than they are in Sept, but still not monster (open until 2am) hours like in the summer months.

Thanks Lori the air is of no concern as that was one option the wife left off her tent trailer she didn't want to spend the extra 1000 dollars for it. We normally come down in Dec so this will be our first out of season (our seasons) trip other than one trip in May that was way way top hot in 05. Now as for loops we do not want to be anyplace near pets but we want to be closer to the pool and comfortstation.

Well, you can't have both. Loop 2000 is far away from pets and the pool. It is also so large, you may have quite a walk to a CS. We were in that loop 2x, once we were across from a CS, once we had quite a walk.

Now, loop 1500 is next to a pet loop (but it is NOT a pet loop). I did not even know we were next to a pet loop until I needed the CS while it was being cleaned. Even then I only knew it was a pet loop because of the sign on the way out saying no pets past that point (or something to that affect). Depending on why you want to be far from pets and how far away, 1500 may work. 1500 is the perfect loop if you want to be near the pool. You just walk across the street and over a foot bridge. A nice quick walk. I like it because you don't have to ride an air conditioned bus after being in the water. Site 1503 is right next to the CS and you can pass through the brush to the bus stop (although I had to go around with the stroller). It is a small loop so all sites are fairly close to the CS, but let them know you want to be close and they will try to put you in the first few sites. Site 1503 was our favorite so far. Of course we are now in a TT and cannot be in that loop anymore.

If you request a specific site, let them know why, such as "near a CS", so that if they can't put you in the exact site, they can accomodate the "near a CS" part.

Happy Camping!!

October at the Fort is absolutely perfect for a popup. In fact, this is the first October that we have not been to the Fort in our popup in who knows how long (we'll be back next year). It's usually comfortably warm during the day and comfortably cool at night. A perfect combination.

We always select Loop 200 because it has cable and it's close to the boat docks.

The away from pets because I have serious pet allergies I can't even go near a place that has HAD dogs or cats in it or my allergies go haywire. I can't even go near the barns at FW the hay and the horses and cows also make my allergies go crazy. I am not a camper due to many many allergies many environmental and animal related. I am even allergic to grass and trees LOL. If somone cuts teh lawn on our street I have to mae sure every window in the house is closed or my eyes swell shut and my breathing is terrible and during spring and fall when the trees open and turn they get really bad also. The worst is the animals though so the further from pets the better.

As for cable this is not w problem as we will be bringing our HD sat system with us and our 27" HD LCD tv for our tv viewing rather than pay extra for a site with cable. We also will bring our Toshiba HD DVD player for movies.

Just to let you know what the camping was like over the last two weeks in a hybrid - the weather was HOT and HUMID. Since you don't have AC, be sure to bring a fan. With MNSSHP going on, October really isn't much of an off season any more. We have seen the crowds increase over the last few years. And there are nights when the parks are open later, especially nights of MNSSHP at MK. We also had more rain this year than most. So be prepared for all kinds of weather - Florida is unpredictable this time of year.

1300 loop is nice We stayed on that loop backing onto the river across from the meadows pool. Right in the middle of everything. But far enough that the noise wasn't bad. We just hopped the bus to the dock.

Well we have no real plans to actually visit the parks now apparently we are basically using FW as a resting spot we will be going to Meritt Island and down to Tampa etc.

Thanks Thumper.
