A) Can I use a gas lantern outside of my tent for ambient lighting? Didnt know if they allowed oil/gas lanterns or only battery powered.

B) How far are you (on average) from bathrooms and are they fairly clean for showering and using the restrooms? All I can think about are outdoor restrooms from highschool camping trips. (sorry).

C) Someone said to get to MK via boat you have to walk to a bus stop (how far) then take a bus to the boat. how far is this "walk" to the buses?

D) Can I park directly at my tent or is there a lot I have to walk to get everything to?

E) Do I have my own grill (do I need to bring my own charcoal), or a group grill?

F) Does staying in a tent still give me access to EMHs?

THANK YOU SO MUCH FOR YOUR HELP!

One more thing.......I may bring my bicycle. Is there a rack for bike parking at the boat landing? Is a far ride from the boat landing to the campsite?

What about the bus site at least? I have a bad back so would love to ride a bike at LEAST from my tent to the bus station if there's a rack to lock up my bike there.

Wow, I wouldn't guess that you're and engineer at all.

Welcome to the camping boards.

I can answer all of your questions:

A) Can I use a gas lantern outside of my tent for ambient lighting? Didnt know if they allowed oil/gas lanterns or only battery powered.

Gas and propane lanterns are fine. Just no open flames (like a tiki torch)

B) How far are you (on average) from bathrooms and are they fairly clean for showering and using the restrooms? All I can think about are outdoor restrooms from highschool camping trips. (sorry).

The sites in the tent loops are all within an easy walk to a comfort station. The comfort stations at Fort Wilderness are the cleanest that you will find anywhere. Not just fairly clean-very clean.

C) Someone said to get to MK via boat you have to walk to a bus stop (how far) then take a bus to the boat. how far is this "walk" to the buses?

The tent loops both have dedicated bus stops, so the walk from your site to a bus stop is minimal.

D) Can I park directly at my tent or is there a lot I have to walk to get everything to?

Yes, you can park one vehicle at each campsite.

E) Do I have my own grill (do I need to bring my own charcoal), or a group grill?

Each site has a provided grill (like you might find in a public park). You need to bring your own charcoal and other grilling supplies.

F) Does staying in a tent still give me access to EMHs?

Yes. All Fort Wilderness guests, whether they are staying in a million dollar motorhome or tent are issued the same resort ID as every other WDW resort guest. You have all the privileges as any other WDW hotel guest.

One more thing.......I may bring my bicycle. Is there a rack for bike parking at the boat landing? Is a far ride from the boat landing to the campsite?

Yes, there are bike racks at the marina. Depending on what loop you are assigned, the bike ride from your site to the marina would be about 1/2 to 3/4 of a mile.

What about the bus site at least? I have a bad back so would love to ride a bike at LEAST from my tent to the bus station if there's a rack to lock up my bike there.

There aren't bike racks at the bus stops, but there are poles and fences, so you could lock your bike up there. But, if you are on a tent loop, there really isn't a need to bike to the bus stop- it won't be far.

I think I answered all your questions.

If you have more, ask away.

As a Civil Eng. you would probably also enjoy the "Behind the scenes Tour" (approx 45 min) of Wilderness Lodge. There is a bus that runs between the Fort and the Lodge.

The tour is Wed, Thur, Fri and Sat iirc and it starts at 9:00am, meet the Ranger at the Fireplace in the Lobby.

Thank you so much for your information.

Another question Id have (though trivial), is, is there any lighting in the area for when we get back from a park later at night? Do i need to carry a flashlight with me for when I return for the evening to get back into my tent or is there some lighting in the area?

Yes, there are street lights, and lighted posts along walkways.

But, it is still kind of dark.

I never use a flashlight, and I get along just fine.

A lot of folks will throw up a string of Christmas lights at their campsite and leave those lit at night so they can easily find their site.

I guess you know that the tent sites have electricity, right?

Just curious, how far is the power source from where the tents go? Just curious how of power extension cord that I need.

On the tent sites, the utility connections are about midway back on the sites, along the side-so you don't need a long extension cord at all-probably 10 or 12 feet would be fine.

I would strongly encourage you to send a faxed request outlining your requests and disability about 5 days before your scheduled arrival. I sent one and we were put in a site near the bathroom and bus stop. It is not a guarantee, but it can’t hurt.

This is another thread where such faxes are discussed: http://www.disboards.com/showthread.php?t=2621639

Actually, on my first tent camping trip at the Fort, I had a 12 foot extension cord and it "really" limited where I could set up my tent.

If you want the most flexibility I would recommend at least a 25 foot outdoor extension cord and a power strip (for cell phone chargers, camera chargers, air mattress pumps, etc.).

Well, like always, I agree with Carol on this. If you are just setting up a tent on your site, it would be simple to set it up close enough to the electric outlet that a 12 foot cord would be fine. But, maybe you want your tent set up at the back of the site, or you are going to put up a screen room, too. So, I agree with the 25' suggestion.

And, Carol, while you're at it, don't you have a checklist for what to bring when tent camping at the Fort? If I am remembering correctly, it was quite thorough. Maybe the engineer could use it? Why don't you post it here?

The CS are so clean, I sometimes just stay in stall #2 the entire stay!
