I am considering camping at WDW for the first time. I figured I would do something different from the usual hotel stay. Can you pitch a tent on a preferred hook-up site or is this a "No".

Tents are welcome anywhere just be sure to give the footprint of your tent to the CM when you make your resi. Some of the full hook up sites and especially the preferred sites have smaller pad. We had friends that had that problem and the campground was full and they had problems getting a different site. The CMs did work it out but it took a while.

Thanks!

Did I mention that I will not have an RV? I just want the space to "spread out".

Actually, the preferred sites are usually smaller and closer together. If you don't want/need the amenities of a preferred site (cable, water, sewer, close proximity to the marina or Meadow's area) then you would probably be fine in a partial hook-up loop--1500 or 2000.

Saw a lot of tents on the 300 loop last year. In fact at one point there were at least 4 different sites that where just tents. Hey and what is tenting without cable tv.... :)

I may be in the minority( probably am) but we didn't like the 300 loop for tent camping. it seemed noisy and was just far enough away to be a pain to walk to the settlement area but just as much of a pain to wait for the bus! usually we'd wait a few mins. for the bus, give up and take off hoofing it and get passed by the bus just a couple mins. before we'd reach our destination.... made us "Donald Duck like" mad! it was not "preferred" by us after that stay(lol)
