Tent camping with a car and going to MK

Have you thought of renting a pop-up or teardrop trailer U-haul has some pretty good deals on these and it makes the car trip easier as all the camping stuff is in the trailer, Plus depending on model small fridges are available which is a big step up from an ice chest

That is an interesting idea. A camper for $300/wk? I'd looked into RV's and they were super-expensive.

-------------------

I think I'm running into the same cost escalation with buying RV's. Literally the cheapest camper with a toilet is $1251 for two weeks. Then you tack on the tent site cost and it is more expensive than a large house with pool.

One problem with us is that I want to do this as cheaply as possible, but there is only three of us. I also don't want to stay in hotel room in which "Motel-6" comparisons often come up in reviews. I don't really care about the whole 'staying in the bubble' idea. But, then by Jan 2022 there might be some worthwhile benefits to staying onsite.
A pop-up was what I was looking at. Unfortunately, demand for these things is high right now.

Sorry-$300 for the week for the golf cart :)

Are you staying 2 weeks- or is that the trip too? I would find a popup or camper in Orlando and have them deliver, or pick up on the way VS towing from where you are.

That said- yep, once you factor all that in, it may be cheaper to Air BnB it- or just search some of the tent set ups here and enjoy camping !

Yes, we are staying for two weeks, and getting the 10-day ticket.,

I've wanted to go to Disney since I was a kid in the 70's watching Wonderful World of Disney. DH had zero interest in Disney. Of course he had never in his life taken a non-camping vacation before we married at 40. We had DD, he still wasn't interested. About the time DD reached an age were I was going to mandate a Disney vacation, they added Star Wars. DH said "Lets go to Disney World one year after Star Wars is complete". That was going to be Jan 2021, but that is postponed for a year. So, this a giant, long-awaited, one-and-done Disney vacation. I am told we'll change our minds about not wanting to go back, but my plans assume one-and-done. DH is also really really good at the camping thing. He is horrible at cooking and cleaning at home, but amazing while camping.

A lot depends on whether there will be any real benefit to staying onsite then. If it stays like it is now, we'll cancel the tent site, and stay off-site. But, I'm assuming that they will bring benefits back.

Benifits of staying is free parking. So 10 days at , 20 /30 bucks a day adds up. They still have the movie a few nights a week. Plus, i think they have get into the park 30 minutes beforehand for resort guests. ( im not sure on that one). And yea, it it changes and they bring back chip n dale, and other stuff you may be shooting yourself in the foot.

Totally, which is why plan A is the tent sites. Plan B is renting a small house with a pool. Plan C had been POP for the sky-liner (plus onsite), but the skyliner goes down for refurb when we arrive. Fortunately everything has lenient refund policies.

It is still so unknown what it will be like when we are there. But I want to plan *now* and it is killing me. Even things like restaurants. Will the Crystal Palace be like it is now, in which case it is a hard No. Will it be like it was before with Winnie the Pooh characters, in which case it is a Must Do. Some other variation? Gah!

If your DH enjoys camping, stay at the fort!! If you want a chance to come back in the future, keep the DH happy!!! Mine is so much more relaxed when we stay at the fort!! With 10 days you will have plenty of time to take it easy and why be stuck in a house or hotel room?? I have never been to a nice campground!! The only thing I miss are having our own fires but I don’t want to buy the special kind of fire pit.

OHHH- if your hubby likes camping, he will LOVE Fort Wilderness.
If this is a "one and done", you'll love being able to rest mid-day at the Fort (what time of year are you going though?)
And yes, with 10 days, you have so much time to relax and see everything.

We used to have a traveling firepit here...there is also another group that shares a pit. I don't know if I can post them here but you can PM me. We used the pit last trip. Loved it.

Thanks, I have seen the posts in the past!! Unfortunately we don’t have a trip planned YET. Hoping for February 2022 but need to commit. Not liking some of the rumors coming out about paying for fast passes and still no live shows. I guess I need to make a reservation so I know I at least have one. If they start changing too much I may not have too many more trips left which really makes me sad.

I will check out those trip reports. One thing with saving so much money staying in a tent. We have money to buy stuff to make us more comfy. If the tent gets cold at night, we can buy a heater. If we want to buy a folding table, we can. We might even do a pavilion tent with two tents off it. DH is building our house, so we always have a pavilion to give him some shade.

Yes, the paid FP is scary.

The tent camping trip report reminds me that we have various sized trailers we could pick from.
I never would have thought to setup a kitchen in a tent.

Yes, while staying at the Fort. The internal buses aren't bad. Depending on what loop you end up in, the Settlement and marina may not be very far. When we stayed in Preferred loops, 100 and 200 were a quick walk to the boat dock. 400 and 700 are also close.

We’re camping in august for first time, so really have no idea what is available! They have an internal bus system in the campground?
