I have never camped at Disney, but have been lurking in this forum quite a bit since Christmas time, and was trying to get a brief, last minute weekend trip planned for the upcoming weekend of April 10.

I read the FAQs stickied at the top of the forum, and I called the disney reservation line, and am still having trouble figuring out where tent campers can stay.

The actual "tent only" sites are all booked for this weekend (and almost every weekend for the next few months).

The available options are "full hookup," "preferred hookup," and "premium."

Can a tent camper pitch/secure a tent in the full hookup or preferred hookup sites? It appears that the premium sites are all concrete, and I am guessing it would be impossible to stake a tent down.

Would we be drawfed by campers/rv's in full hookup/preferred hookup sites?

As always, thanks for any help! We are really looking forward to a brief getaway, and appreciate the help!!!!

When you say "tent only" are you referring to the "partial hook-up" sites?

Partial hook-up are not tent only, there will be some people in those with pop-ups and a few RV's. The major difference between, partial and full and preferred's is the fact that there is no sewer hook-up on partial. For the most part the are set up pretty much the same. Concrete pad and a sand (conquina) pad together. As to the preferred they are just closer to the Marina, Settlement Trading Post and Trails End Restaurant.

We have tent camped twice at the fort. Both times we got "preferred" sites. We had two large tents, 4 adults 6 kids it worked out well. The locations were excellent, it just took a little ingenuity to figure out a layout for the tents. If you tell them that your equipment is "tents" they will try to select a site for you with more sandy/grassy area where a tent can be staked, if that makes sense? Hope this helps.

Tents can be put on any level of site. My preference would be partial hook up first followed in order by full hook up, preferred, and as a last resort premium. It is a challenge to set up on a premium site but it can be done. If you set your tent on a back corner of the driveway you can get 3 corners staked down and will have to use weight to hold the 4th side down. I have used a 5 gal. bucket full of water (ETA with a lid) to sit on top of the tie down loop and have also just used a Rubbermaid bin full of supplies stored inside the tent in the 4 th corner. You must use extra precautions with the floor of your tent when setting it up on a hard surface. Chairs or other heavy hard bottomed items can damage the floor if slid around when set up on concrete. You really should use and extra ground tarp or something t o help cushion the floor.

You may end up with a million dollar motor home beside you but I always try to have an open mind and don't hold their wealth against them.

We camped in the preferred loop with a 21' TT. Next to us on one side was a huge motor-home, on the other side were 2 tents. We all got along great. That's one great thing I have always found with (most) campers. They're such a friendly group:banana:
