tent camping out west?

Have you given any thought to buying a used tent trailer? You can store your things in it and it's no harder to set up then a tent. Would keep you off the ground and they have heaters for the cold mornings.:hippie:

By the way you have me all fired up to go camping now ...

I'll second the tent trailers! They're great! Super light too, sometimes we just move it around the camp spot by pulling on it and standing on the back end.

Also, those of us that live in the great northwest (I'm in Idaho) are aware of the Bears and Mountain Lions that roam these hills at night .. :scared1: j/k OP.

What great information! Didn't think about it being cold in Sept. It's quite nice in Michigan then and no snow! We can't get away until September so maybe if we go a little farther south outwest? We also will be traveling with a small to medium size dog. Didn't think I would get such experience and detailed suggestions! Thanks alot.

I can't believe nothing has been said about the Grand Canyon. The South Rim is open the year round. Any time of the year is great for this spot, now is even better because it is not as crowded.

How do you all transport your tent and all the supplies? Was thinking of hauling our boat and putting everything in that but if we didn't take the boat it might be a little less cumbersome. We have an extended Yukon. Maybe get one of the things you put on top of the vehicle? What are your suggestions? I can't believe how much help this has been. I honestly was thinking that I would get discouraging replies.

I have a 1993 mercedes 190e, not real big. My wife and I live in Florida now and this summer we did 5 weeks of tent camping starting in the Black Hills. We packed everything in the trunk and back seat. I grew up in Colorado and she is from the Caribbean, we had a blast. I am 60 and it had been a long time since I had done anything like that. Try not to over pack, not to many clothes and buy food as you go. Besides if you find you forgot something you can always pick it up on the road. There are a lot of lesser known spots along the way that are great too.

I know there's some good information here, but were you aware you are resurrecting a 3 year old thread?
