I'm thinking of taking a couple of days off in April - but can't decide whether to venture to FW with a tent, or stay in one of the Value Resorts.

Any suggestions?

For ME,it would pretty much depend on my mood at the time of making my ressies. There are pros and cons to both that equal out FOR ME.
But I gotta say, I really like the Fort and would most likely lean that way.(for me)

Just my opinion but for a couple of days, would do the hotel rather than the Fort. Don't get me wrong, I luv the Fort, but for just a couple of days to me it's not worth putting the tent up. I'd much rather spend my time at the parks for a short trip, just throw the bags in the room and go!:thumbsup2 Only you can really decide what your budget will allow.

Now a week? That's a different scenario, me and the T@B will be at the Fort!

If you are going to Disney only for a couple of days to do the parks I would get a room. However if you are just wanting to get away and relax the Fort is your best bet. We live only a couple hours away with APs and when we want to do the parks we always get a room even though we have a popup. Check in at the fort for a campsite is at 1 pm and checkout is 11am so your first and last day get big chunks of prime time used for making and breaking camp. You could go straight to a park and check in late or get up very early and break camp check out then head to the park but I hate both those options. It is just too easy to walk in or out of your room with a bag. We love the fort and often go for weekend or longer and never go to a park but for a short stay with parks in mind it's a room for us.

You might want to consider the rain factor at that time of the year (April showers... ). We were at the Fort in early May this year, and there was some serious rain. This wasn't the summertime passing thunderstorm kind of rain either - we're talking torrential downpours for hours at a time. There were days of sunshine and only a couple of days of solid rain, but on most days our trailer was an island surrounded by a very large lake for much of the day. We were dry in a trailer, but I saw some very sad looking tents on that trip.

Thanks for the advice. I'm only 90 minutes from the Mouse, but know that rain can make tent camping quite miserable! But, I haven't been camping in years so thought it would be a nice change.

Historically, April's usually one of the driest periods of the year.

But the post above was right about the type of rain. It may rain more often from Jun - Sept. But those are usually just lots of quick passing storms, usually with a little time to dry out in between. But when it does rain in the Spring it's usually a steadier event. However, if you live in central FL you know those events can sometimes be weeks apart at that time of year so it's really just luck of the draw.

Still, I'm bringing a tent along with us when we'll be there for 10 days in April. We'll actually be in my parents big RV, but for extra space (4 adults, 2 little kids) I thought it might a good idea to have another 'room.' The temperatures should be ideal for tent camping. For rain, I plan to do some extra waterproofing to the tent before we head down there (some of those sprays and seam sealers can make a world of difference.) I also hope to find a place where I can possibly string a tarp above the tent for extra water deflection.

As much I love pitching A tent, this is so not the year to do it.The weather is A El-nino year.So in Apiral I think the rain is gonna keep comming every few days.Camping under these conditions is just misery.imo

I'm not A weather man it could change by then!!:confused3

I would have to say hit the hotel, and Im sure no one would notice if you popped by the Fort for a nice visit.:yay: For a short stay the hotel is a great home base. :thumbsup2
