Tent camping: best month weather wise?

I have only tent camped at FW during the hot, humid summer monhs and probably won't do that again! I love FW, but our last tent adventure there saw us in a flooded tent! The tarp blew off and it poured for more than half the day....soggy sleeping bags are a camping hazard, but I would rather not repeat the experience.

So....what are the best months? Is March OK? Or are the nights still too cool? Are we better off in April? TIA!::MickeyMo

I would think your best bet would be either October or early November. Weather is warm, rain is less, nights aren't really cold.::MickeyMo

Thanks Ftwildernessguy! We would love to go in the fall, but our family schedule will not allow it really. We've gone in the fall many times in the past and have stayed in the cabins. I think our future trips, at least in the next couple years will be limited to spring and summer.

Anyone else out there w/ any tent camping preferences?

The only time I get to tent camp at Ft. Wilderness is in December. One year was really nice, daytime in the mid 70's nightime, in the lower 60's.

Last year was cold highs in the 50's lows in the 40's and rain, lots of it. Fortunately my campsite didn't flood and my stuff stayed dry as a bone.

I had lots of layers and a -20 sleeping bag so I was fine.

We really enjoyed both April and May. The time we went in May wasn't too warm in the day, and was pleasant at night. One trip in March got chilly at night, but I wore sweats and had a sheet and blanket (on a cot), and that was very comfortable. And it was nice during the day, so I remember March as being a good month to tent camp.

Yes March is fine, I live right here in the area and we camp every March. Sometimes a front can come through with some wicked rain (tornados more possible). However for the most part March days are comfortable and for the nights a ceramic heater might be needed. April is also good...especially the first weeks. Camping season is October through April here. We camped this past year at FW in May the first week and it was terribly hot and the deer fly were terrible. Good thing we have a/c, it would've been uncomfortable in a tent.

We just got back from our stay 10/12-10/19. We thought the weather was perfect for tent camping. The afternoons were really warm, nights were down to about 65. Very comfy in jogging pants inside a sleeping bag. We had about 30 minutes of rain the entire week.
