This may sound like a stupid question, but we will be tent camping in October. How will we find out about the weather forecast for each day?

Since we have tent camped a few times in October (going back again this October  ), I usually check the 10-day forecast on www.weather.com and go basically by that. We've been lucky so far and haven't had any severe storms, just a quick rain every now and then. I think the CMs are informed of the daily weather because we always ask before going in the parks and they always know.

We bought a mini tv a few years back and it has become very helpful in more than just our trips to Disney. It's one of those small TVs that's about 3 inches but we always get a really good picture and some local channels. It also has AM FM radio and I believe weather band but I'm not sure. That was about $80 when we bought it. http://www.target.com/gp/detail.htm...-0184947?ie=UTF8&frombrowse=1&asin=B000H3DQVK This one is similar.

My DH usually listens to the radio in our truck for a few minutes in the morning. We also take the 10 day forecast with us.

We haven't camped at WDW before, but for upcoming trips there, we bought a set of walkie talkies from Costco that also has weather band radio. You can set it to alert you if there is severe weather, so they will actually wake you up if something happens while you are sleeping.

Can you call the front desk and ask for the weather info? I know at the other resorts theres a specific button on the phone for it so it must be available. Even though we were in a travel trailer I had the same dilemma on our trip. I had meant to ask this question and kept forgetting.

There's a house phone at the comfort station with a list of numbers you can press to get an answer to just about every question you have, I'm sure they should have one for the weather. Or you could call the front desk and ask the operator there. We need someone who's going soon to take a picture of the in-house phone directory that's at the comfort station and add it to the picture of the day thread.

I check www.accuweather.com before I go. They have a 15 day forecast. I know that they can't possibly know for sure that far out, but it does give you some idea of what to expect. Other than that I would think maybe a radio or small tv to keep you informed while you are there. I would imagine the check in area would have weather updates if there were a storm coming in. Good luck.

for those that are locals or those that tune in a radio station either in their campers or in their cars.......

what local radio station can we tune into for local weather? news?

i know that here in the Philly area we have a 24 hour news/weather and trafic station. (KYW1060)

they cycle thru the news and at regular intervals, interject with up to date weather and trafic. anything like that in the WDW area?

Plug the following into your cell phone:

1-407-824-4104

That is the phone number your resort phone dials for the local daily weather.

I love camping, but this thread makes me wonder...If, heaven forbid, there were a hurricane or other very severe weather, how would tent campers take shelter? Does FW have a way to help people in this situation? Or do they just tell you the storm is coming and you should pack up and go home? Now I'm really curious!

If very serious weather is predicted to arrive (i.e. hurricane), they evacuate Ft. Wilderness and move those that wish to stay into other resorts at Disney.

A friend of mine that was tent camping at the Fort was once moved to a cabin for a couple of days due to severe thunderstorms.
