Tennis skirts and workout attire

Can't believe I just checked out more skorts online. I resisted the urge to buy more. I already have nine.

You're behind ;)

I think I have 5 pr of hiking skorts that currently fit, plus 5 denim pair, plus the 3 longer athletic ones. I have a box full for every size I've been over the last 10 years, too. There's nothing like a skort, and these new quick dry ones are awesome.

Oh, for shoes with skorts: I alternate between Teva Olowahu and Mandalyn sandals, Keen Whispers (my prefered park shoe), and slim bike sneakers with no-show socks. I also have a couple pair of ballet flats. You can put almost anything with a skort and have it look good.

Blaming this thread for the fact that I just went to Kohl's and bought a skort. I don't even have a Disney trip on the horizon! We are going to the beach though and I think it will work great for the walk to and from the beach.

I just want to reaffirm you all ... it's called "athleisure" and it's totally in (http://www.instyle.com/news/now-you-know-just-how-far-should-you-take-athleisure-trend) as are running shoes... you can basically wear a brightly colored pair of running shoes with an evening gown at this point and be fashion forward. I never thought about wearing my running skirts around the park, although I do wear black stretchy skorts around all the time--now I'll have to check out my running sets! I am packing for a weekend getaway and you've entirely changed my strategy :) I wear a lot of sailing tech gear as well--the shirts are ultrabreathable and super lightweight, and usually have spf protection. If you have a yacht club near by, wait till a regatta and shop the sales--there are usually traveling salespeople that set up tents with gear like a runDisney expo and they sell Marmot, Columbia, Sperry, Gill... lots of wicking, easy dry, light weight and sun protecting gear.

Last week I had posted that I bought two of the golf skirts at Dick's. When I got home, I went to try both skirts on, the Aqua plaid one fit perfectly, and the Orange seersucker one, I couldn't get the zipper unzipped to try it on. So, I called the store and asked if they had another one in a size 4 that they could hold for me and I'd come in and do an exchange. They didn't. So, I jumped on line with my iPad and ordered another one in a size 4, and it was free shipping and even less than what I paid in the store! I just took the skirt back at the store and got a refund. Yesterday, my new skirt came, and guess what...the dang zipper won't go down! Grrrrr. I love this stupid skirt and I'm so disappointed!! I called and they are supposed to send me a new one. I asked if they were going to make sure the zipper worked before they sent me the new skirt. She didn't really answer me about that. I really hope they do!

****5/22/15 Editing to update that I received my replacement skirt today, and the zipper on this one is functioning. :) Woooohoo!

I discovered athletic skorts last year and they've been so great and comfortable. I have 2 from Athleta, but it looks like they've discontinued the styles I liked, so I'm trying other brands. I wear sandals or running shoes with them. I don't really worry about it.

I recently bought the Prana Lena skort and it's really comfortable (a little shorter than I usually prefer, but cute). I have a regular skirt from them, too, and just bought a sundress that fits perfectly. (A shelf bra that actually fits me, with a neckline that doesn't gap to show a ton of cleavage? Stretchy, comfy fabric? Sold. The style I got is the Shauna, and it's already packed away for my trip. On the subject of dresses, Toad&Co also has some cute ones that work well for me.)

Unfortunately I have to do most of my ordering online because the stores don't have a lot. Amazon is great because they have free shipping and returns on most clothes and are often cheaper.

I tried on one of those seersucker skirts at Dicks, and ya know what? PROBLEM WITH THE ZIPPER! I actually tried two on and had the same issue with both, one worse than the other. I thought it was me, but it must have been a manufacturing defect.

Glad to know it's not just me! At first, I was thinking it probably was, because I have severe neuropathy and weakness in my hands and arms. I took the skirt I got yesterday up to my parents and they couldn't move the zipper either. The pink bazooka color skirt is fine. (Pink and white seersucker) But the nasturtium (orange) colored were the ones that the zipper was stuck. Out of curiosity was it the same color that stuck for you?

Nope. I tried on both the black(ish)/grayish and the blue. They both had zipper problems. The blue was worse than the black/gray. I couldn't get the blue fully zipped, but the black/gray one I could zip but had to tug really hard. I was afraid I was going to rip the zipper.

So glad I noticed this thread! I am a golfer and have several golf skorts. Didn't think about bringing them to wear in the parks until I read it here! They pack nice and are so comfortable! Thanks for the idea! If you have an IZOD outlet nearby, they carry ladies coordinating golf outfits! Matching visors, too!

(I don't call them skorts...skorts from the 90s were skirts from the front and shorts from the back, not a skirt all the way around, and I just can't call a running skirt, or tennis skirt, a "skort"!)
Totally agree. I used to work as a patternmaker and that is exactly what we called a skort (made them for little girls).

I agree Athleta has discontinued the styles I liked too! Not sure why they did this. I actually wrote them a note about it, for what it's worth. I am also looking into other brands, so this thread is great!

Also on the shoes ... part of the reason I wear athletic stuff to the parks (skorts, etc.) is because I HAVE TO wear my running shoes in the parks. There is a huge, noticeable difference in how tired and sore I feel if I try to wear any other kind of shoes. I used to live in Florida, I wore flip flops and various sandals to the parks all the time... but never again. Running shoes have the right amount of bounce and cushion to totally spare my legs and feet from soreness at the end of the day.

I was not aware that running shoes are now considered fashionable! Hooray!

I wear my dryfit athletic clothes pretty much all the time. Only wear jeans to "dress up".

Last weekend I was at Universal Studios. For our arrival day I had planned to hit the 3 major water rides (and they soak you over there!) and follow it up with the pool. Knowing we would be wet, I planned our outfits carefully (had to fly in them too since I didn't want to take the time to change). My DD and I ended up wearing our black running capris with swim shorts underneath, workout bras and dryfit t-shirts. No big deal when we got soaking wet. Rather than changing to "swimwear", we decided to swim in our workout bras and swim shorts covered up with our dryfit shirt (great for sun protection).

When we got to the pool, we ended up being too lazy to peel off our wet capris and just swam with them. We then decided to get out to spend only 3 hours in the parks and wanted to come straight back to the pool. At this point, we agreed there was no point to get showered and dressed, so we walked back to the park still wet.

Workout gear was PERFECT for our day. Plus they are super comfy, even when wet.

Bumping this to give some additional, irrelevant information...

So on @MataHari22 's recommendation, I picked up some golf skirts/skorts/whatever you want to call them from Dick's. I was in Washington DC this week for work, and decided to fly out the day after my conference ended so that I could spend half a day sightseeing in DC and having dinner with some friends. So I wore my golf attire yesterday. It's been really unseasonably hot and muggy in DC, with temps in the 90s. I walked all over the Mall, to several of the Smithsonian museums, and to the monuments around the reflecting pool, then took a bike and rode from downtown DC to Georgetown for dinner. The golf skirt was PERFECT. I only wish I would have purchased a couple more, because after wearing it all day, there's no way I'm going to want to wear actual shorts at Disney. It was just too comfortable.

That's awesome. :) So glad it was comfy for you!

I went to the site to check these things out. The Basic versions are $70. NO thanks. I can put on a pair of gym shorts and pull a short, thin skirt over them for the same effect for about $25 from Walmart.

I just don't see the quality in this at all for the price.
