We are flying to Floriday this summer for a week at SSR, our first time at our home resort. :)

DD needs to practice tennis. Is there tennis equipment available at SSR or do we have to bring our racquets on the plane?

Thank you!

Yes, they do have racquets available at Community Hall. The resort has great clay courts located near the marina/sales center/golf shop area.

Depending on the level of play of your DD, she may be better off bringing her own equipment instead of trying to get used to a public racquet. Is she wants a lesson, that can also be arranged thru Disney. I'm not sure if they offer the lesson at SSR (the pro may be able to go there), but they are available.

Enjoy!

We were at WDW a couple of weeks ago, along with our ds (12) who plays a lot of tennis and didn't want to go an entire week without practice. I cannot recommend enough the tennis clinic at the Contemporary! He had a private lesson with a great coach, who used to be the coach for Univ. of Central Florida (I think that's the name of the school---my dh was the one who took our ds over there). It was a great experience all the way around. If you're thinking about it and have any questions I'll be happy to answer them.

dis-happy, thank you! How do you make the reservation for the lesson, and how far in advance did you book it?

My understanding is that this program is fairly new and getting off the ground. We were fortunate that we were able to make a reservation the week we were there, but then again, it was mid May and WDW isn't quite as crowded then--in the future however, we plan to book well in advance; the cancellation time is 24 hrs. in advance. You can call the pro-shop at 407-824-3783, they are open from 9-12 daily. The courts are all clay, and the cost is $75. per hour, a little on the pricey side it would seem, but I can't stress enough that we thought the coaching and lesson were so wonderful it seemed like a bargain. In fact, I may even head back this summer just to give my ds some more time there--his game improved a lot with just two sessions. Oh, the coach we had was named Mike; he's also really good at relating the idea of what he wants the kids to do/change in their game so they can understand and do it--he used some little rhymes and things to help my ds remember. Also, FWIW, my ds was at the Stearns-Smith Tennis Academy in Hilton Head over Easter break, a school with a top reputation, but truly, I liked our experience at WDW a lot better. HTH.

Michael's last name is Dublin, and he's a pretty good pro. He helped my backhand improve with a couple of lessons, and that's no mean feat. His cell number -- which he encourages people to use -- is 407-621-1991. The number to the Contemporary tennis pro shop is 407-824-3783. I don't think lessons are available outside the Contemporary, but you could ask him when you call. He has a ball machine available at the Contemporary if you just need to hit a bunch of balls; I think it's $15/hour for those.
