Ten to WIN! (Losing 10 pounds a month)

Wow!!!

TigerLily!!! Awww...it is sooo great to see you!! You look GREAT!!! Did you hit your goal weight? I hope to do a 1/2 marathon next summer...may do a few 5k's this summer....love seeing you!!!

Shannon!! :banana:You are just 4 pounds away from saying GOODBYE to the 200's once and for all!!! I'm sending massive good will vibes your way to make it happen in good time!! :) Stay strong and keep your goal above your cravings...it will be here quickly!

Michelle!! You are in the 160's!!! What a GREAT job getting out of the 190's!! I know you can hit your goal! Sometimes we lose better after holding a weight for awhile..so look at it as a great opportunity to get your body back into losing mode..what a great reward when you do! Get that bathing suit somewhere visible..even try it on every few days...that really motivates me! :)

Knees! Oh my goodness, Knees!! I had a bout with seizures in college and all the falls took a toll on my knees...I have been told by my ortho that reconstructive surgery is in the stars for me, but as long as I do exercises that strengthen my core thigh muscles and those right above the knees, they have been relatively pain free...I'm a bit worried about doing p90x b/c I know they'll be pushing them..but I'll take it easy but plug through...not much advice other than take an aleve (anything with naproxen) if they start hurting you.

I did the fitness test for p90x....passed most of them, but 2 minutes of jumping jacks was a joke, I stayed moving for 2 minutes, but not sure you could call them jumping jacks..my knees were not happy! I did manage 25 pushups (on my knees) and did not even try the pull ups (just ordered the pull up bar for the door frame) so I hope in 90 days to be able to do atleast 3 pull ups!! :)

My son is doing it with me, he really only has 20 pounds to lose but he wants to tone up..it's nice to have a buddy..my dh is doing the eating plan with me but not the exercises....the eating plan is pretty much what I had been doing..

1 grain
5 proteins
4 vegetables
1 fruit
3 dairy

Typically, that's my losing strategy, we'll see how it works, you do that for 3 weeks then I think add in more grain/fruits....haven't looked at it that closely....but the first workout is tomorrow..so hoping I survive the first 3 weeks! :)

Let's keep that losing feeling!!
Tara

OMG, I can't stand people that do that crap. I do have a way of dealing with them though. You just look them in the eye with the most sarcastic look you can muster and go "Oh, it's so hard to be you, isn't it?":furious: Or if they really p!ss me off, I'll go find someone and switch the sizes without letting anyone else know, and then go into the dressing room and LOUDLY declare I need to smaller size and do a little whoo-hooing. (It's not a good idea to make me feel bad about my body, just sayin')

But don't let it get you down!! No one on Earth fights the battles you fight, so you can't compare yourself to anyone else. But you can do it!!

I like your spunk!! I need that kind of fire bottled so I can take it on my off days!! :) Thanks for the pep talk!!

Tara

Finished first workout on p90x...can not do a single pull up but used 10 pound weights to do extensions instead...the heart push up is a joke...I MIGHT be able to do one complete one!! But I was thrilled to find out that the workouts are not 90 minutes a day!!! For some reason I thought they were, so I still have enough energy to do my 2 miles during this 90 days...I may not hit 4 miles a day, but I'm still working out a total of 90 minutes..so it's gotta be good, eh?

Momma
Proteins 5
Dairy 2
Fruits 1
Veget. 2
Fats 1
Carbs 1
Snacks 3
Cond. 1

Here is a breakdown of the food I am eating...really not that bad, for snacks I am limiting it to a cheese stick, 8 wheat thins (reduced fat), raisins, or 10 nuts (cashews or almonds)....

I'll be sticking to this for 3 weeks and then adding in more veggies and one more carb if the weight is coming off steadily....

Come on 10'ers....let's get 'em off together! :)

The plateau is OVER! YAY!

I was really getting worried. I was about ready to inspect the scale and see if it was broken, lol. But, I have lost 2 pounds since last week. I consulted with the doctor just to be sure it wasn't medically related (ie Thyroid). But the doctor asked me a round of questions, namely if I started an exercise regimen that I was finding pretty intense. I started Zumba about 4 weeks ago. He stated that my body is building lean muscle under the subcutaneous fat tissue, and basically when it was built up a bit more the pounds would start rolling off. Just to continue what I was doing, this wasn't a sprint it was a marathon. :thumbsup2 My doc is cool.

So sure enough about 30 days after starting my cardio and weight lifting regimen the pounds have resumed coming off! WOOHOO! I ordered the Zumba DVD set to do at home on days where I can't get to the gym and pulled out the old dumbells to do resistance training.

I've also kept my food log for a month now and it's really helped me see what I am putting into my body everyday. Coffee is cut out totally and I am now drinking lightly caffeinated green tea and protein shakes in the morning with whey protein.

I am so glad to hear of everyone else's successes as well! We can DO THIS!:goodvibes

WEIGH TO GO!!! :):dance3:

That is wonderful!!! Doc is a cool guy! Glad he is encouraging you to stick with lifestyle modifications! Those are the good ones! :)

I am going to write down my five biggest hurdles and how I am going to beat them!!

Hurdle one:Portion control!!!! Now, I'm not a biggie size that kind of girl, but just ordering any 'regular' meal is WAY over what we should eat!! The days of ordering a chik-fil-A sandwich and regular fries with diet drink are GONE (well, okay, I may splurge 2x a year, but not 25 x a year!!) Now, if I have to eat on the go, I'll order the chicken salad cup and only eat 2 crackers....much better control!!

Hurdle two:
Making excuses not to exercise. On all the days that I do NOT exercise, I can bet you I've spent at least an hour at the computer or watching a TV show, so if I have time to sit and watch something, I have time to MOVE!!! One day off a week is fine, but if I start getting to 2-3 days, then the losing stops...so sticking with it!!

Hurdle three:
I do not drink enough water. Some days I can go through the day even with exercising and drink tops 24 ounces of water. I am going to try and drink a glass before every meal and after every meal....that way I know I'll get at least 60 ounces! :)

Hurdle four:
Stress eating. I'm tired, I don't want to cook, I'm too tired to go buy good food, so I'll stop and get take and bake pizza, so I'll be good and eat one piece, but an hour later, there are 2 pieces still on the pan, and before you know it, I've had 3 pieces....again, not THAT bad overeating, but I will not lose doing that!!

Hurdle five:
Celebrating with food. Okay, it's a birthday every month these first four months! Then, of course, there's Easter, Valentine's, Mother's Day, Father's Day...we all like to go out to eat..then we like to splurge on the bloomin' onion or fudgy dessert....after eating a high fat meal....so this year, I'm focusing on choosing the healthy choices, they're there, and they are tasty! And I don't feel as badly after eating them....

These are my worst, what are your hurdles and how are you going to tackle them?? We're here for you!
Tara

Tara, "yay":cheer2: for being able to recognize your hurdles!

I started counting calories yesterday. I seem to have more calories allowed than I eat. Which doesn't help when I work out, it adds more calories to the calories I should be eating. So what happens if I don't eat all my calories for the day?
I went to the gym yesterday and today burning 300 and 350 calories. Cut out most of my soda over the past two days. So, here's hoping I can march forward!! Congrats to all of you still marching along!

My worst hurdle is Emotional Eating. I love my parents, but they didn't teach me too many coping skills. So I resort to EE (and NOT Expedition Everest, lol) when I'm mad/sad/angry/upset/happy, etc. I am trying to teach myself some coping skills so I don't have to live my life like a roller coaster. It hasn't been easy though: last night I got into a fight with a family member and I wanted to just go out and get fast food and beer. The fight was over something so ridiculous anyway, which made me want to get fast food even MORE. I ended up going over to a friend's house...with a 6-pack of light beer. It's so frustrating to not have the ability and control to not let stuff like that get to me :headache: But I am still looking toward my goals and keeping them in my sights!

Aww...thank you so much for sharing this...we were just hit by a slew of tornadoes...not one, something like 200 in ONE day in our part of the state...5 tornadoes each came with in a mile or two of us...skies were green, happened 5x back to back...we've had no power for 8 days...what did I do? I panicked and started emotionally eating...I think I had fries 5x in 8 days!

Power is back but I'm still taking it all in, we only lost a fence and shingles...but I can't drive to anywhere without seeing our gas station blown away, the grocery store is no longer there and hundreds of homes eaten up...it is a miracle we did not lose more life...I think because it happened between 7am and 2pm most were at work and not in their homes...I'm just zapped...but am committing tomorrow to restart the p90x..can't do it without power!! :(

I'm back but not roaring.

I want to join. I havent been able to read all 4 pages I'm off to bed aftert his post. I just did a post called tredmill walkers. Wish I had seen this first.
I can use all the support and motivation i can get. I'm doing a low carb diet.

I've subbed to this thread and started back on South Beach. I've already lost 2 pounds. I want to join, as well. I need motivation to get the exercise part in...my biggest issue with that is my schedule. I work full time and my boys have soccer everyday this month due to two different schedules.

So sorry for what you've had to go through, Tara- I am also an emotional eater so I understand.:grouphug:

well, I started my first week of real exercising and dieting and lost six pounds! yeah!:cool1:

Bump!!

I haven't been on this thread in a little too long. Tara, I am so sorry to hear about your house  But I'm so glad no one was hurt! I wish there was something I could do for all those people down there. I am definitely keeping them in my prayers.

Ooh, can I join? I'm 5'1" and I weigh 182 that's 4 pounds less than last week though! When I met my Dh 11 years ago, I weighed 110. I don't care if I get down to that again, but I'm way too big for my frame. My biggest downfall is that I like to eat junk. I'll be staring at the fixings of a decent lunch, but instead get in my car (sometimes even in the rain) to go to McDonalds. I'll eat just to eat. So then I get mad at myself, go all hung ho on some diet routine, and quickly fall back to my old ways. Ugh, it's so frustrating!

I did the Princess half marathon in February. It was my first race ever, and the best experience of my life! I'm now hooked on running. I can't believe I actually look forward to it. My schedule is crazy, which is also a culprit of my weight gain. I work the graveyard shift and then stay up all day with the kids while Dh works. Then we have dinner together, I give the kids a bath and put the baby to bed. By the time I lay down, it's sometimes 9pm, and j have to wake up at 11:15. I know it's not good. Right now Dh is actually home though. He had knee surgery last week, so I'm off work for a few weeks too to take care of him. I'm going to the gym every day, and I lost 4 lbs last week!

I signed up for the Disneyland half marathon in September. I know that will keep me motivated to keep up at the gym. Ideally I'd like to lose 50-60 lbs. You guys can keep me honest!

I'm a stress eater too. Which means I want to eat all of the time! I have to keep in my stress bc it stresses others, so then I eat to let it out. I also am a boredom eater. Much easier not to eat at work then when I'm just home. So weekends are tough for me. This last weekend was my first test, and happily I passed! I did enjoy myself mother's day, but I saved my calories to do it and even though I "cheated", I still did it on a MUCH lower scale than I normally would.

I have decided to give myself one cheat day a week - to be on weekend. It's something to look forward to and when i want something, I know I can have it then.

Also what is helping me are the 60 calorie jello pudding cups. I have one a day and it gives me the sweet that I crave so I don't go crazy otherwise.

I also love the lose it app -it's so nice that it keeps me on my toes. and it even has storebrand foods and restaurant foods on it. I actually wanted chili's for my cheat and it had what I wanted on it so no guessing on the calories!

I've lost 7 pounds so far in 10 days. i know it's water, but it's something! Keep it up everyone!

:cheer2: That is great!!! 7 pounds!! I will be weighing in this Thursday, having no power for a week and life going haywire, I know it will not be good, but with the 10 pounds a month, I can still hit my goal with the remaining 8 months..so my goal is to get below 222 by the end of this month..hoping the 90x will help me get there.

I find that I am eating less than I used to, and that is a huge step! Our power went off again yesterday so I'm hoping it's safe to go and restock my fridge, had to throw all foods out...so we've been living on soups/sandwiches and takeout the last week..not good for dieting!

Keep up the work! I'm going to go put on my bathing suit and stretch out these muscles!! The pool water is a cool 79 today, but ya gotta jump in sometime!! :)

Ugh, today was not a good day. I feel so sick to my stomach. Last night was a rough night. Both kids kept waking up, my oldest had nightmares, I couldn't sleep, and dh was up with the pain. So it was very easy to fall into comfort eating today. I just ate a personal DiGiorno pizza, I stole some of my kids' chicken nuggets, I drank Coke, and I had a piece of cake. See what I do to myself? I also don't know if I'll get to the gym today for my strength training because of a mandatory meeting later on. I still have to help dh with his exercises...I need more hours in the day! For the rest of the day I WILL eat better!

I think you're having the day I had last week!

Quick..regroup...let's help you through this!!
380 calories for the pizza,
150 calories for about 4 nuggets,
a whole coke is around 180 calories?
cake about 250 calories

working out for about 45 minutes will burn 350 calories (dependent on your weight) so if you can get a workout in you can cut out the cake and the coke and still have a losing day, stick to soup or salad for dinner and you're good!

Can't get to the gym? Just do these for 45 minutes...

Jump rope for 3 minutes
Do as many pushups as you can stand
Do 20 lunges back and forth then side to side squats
Do a seated wall squat-hold as long as you can
Lay on your back and hold your legs up in the air and reach for them (crunches)...

If you repeat this routine 3x..you'll have a good workout, throw in some jogging in place/knee touches for warming up....set it to your favorite song list and have fun with it! Just go dancing around the room with the kids!! :)
Hope all are feeling better! It's only a bad day if we keep going the wrong way! :)

Tara

Thanks so much Tara. I ended up not exercising at all, but I'm moving on. Today is a new day. I actually diverted myself from McDonalds today. I ran out of the house to take my daughter to preschool, and I hadn't eaten breakfast. Along the way I started thinking about an egg mcmuffin. I dropped her off and started driving there. I even had my debit card in my hand! And then I realized that it was a very poor choice. And I went home, where I ate a single servin of cheerios with skim milk, bananas, and strawberries! Baby steps!

Finished week two of running and dieting and I have to say I'm discouraged. When I say dieting - I mean no carbs, mostly veggies/fruits and lean meats. And I've been using the losing it app so my calories are definitely under and I'm measuring food. So the result - I lost six pounds last week, but this week my scale says I've gained two - how the heck is that possible? my dh says the scale is wrong, so I'm buying another today - but it hurt to look at that! not going to go off it - just sad about it.

Could it be muscle weight? Are you measuring inches at all? I'd say that if you're definitely under your calories and everything, don't get too discouraged. (I know, easier said than done!) Next week will be better!
