Bummer. This particular store has gotten annoying with the pull backs on price matching (it's a much shorter list of stores now) but they haven't hampered me too much. I didn't know that about the visa...wonder if that's store specific or a new chainwide policy? Our FreshCo is directly across the street from No Frills so I usually nip across the road for whatever I need from there. Except in the really crappy weather, I prefer to store hop and don't price match too often. When it's cold, rainy or snowy out and I HAVE to go to the store, I tend to just hit one or two and make do.

There are 2 NF in Cambridge. The new one never has accepted Visa, the older one stopped as of January 1st. They indicated it was going to be chain-wide. I assume to push the PC MasterCard.

going grocery shopping today-we'll see what can be got for a decent price. fearful of going into the produce section-celery (NON organic-just the basic stuff) is selling for $1.79 per pound kills me to pay that much for something I need to keep on hand for a variety of recipes but rarely ever use the entirety of (and the supermarkets around here have largely done away with just selling higher per pound priced individual pieces which I used to buy just when I needed=less money spent/wasted. now they shoot those over to the deli department to use in their overpriced prepared salads).

Yes, it's $3-$4 for a teeny tiny bunch of celery here and has been for weeks!!! I have taken to omitting it from the dishes that call for it. I haven't missed it in most things and my pocketbook thanks me. I REFUSE to pay that much for celery and our cucumbers have been higher too. Luckily they go on sale every couple of weeks so I get a few and try to make them last. But I've been going without often because I have a dollar amount I won't cross and they're consistently priced over it. I seriously need a garden. LOL

Yesterday I researched the rules for Savings Catcher from Walmart. I found out that they honor competitive stores BOGO here in Florida!!! I picked up a few items that I know we will use just in case it doesn't work. (Yes, I'm a skeptic )

So I got 2 jars of Hellman's mayonnaise for $4.89 ea. Plus there was a freebie Knorr Veggie dip mix that came with it! Score, 2 dip mixes for free! Bogo at nearby store.
2 jars of Barilla marinara sauce at $1.98 ea. These are BOGO at a nearby store.
Smuckers strawberry jam $2.34 and Jif spread $2.98. I grabbed the new cookies and cream flavor... no idea what I'll do with it, but it sounded good! These 2 items worked for the Ibotta deal $1 back if you buy both. Ibotta has already credited the $1!

Upfront the total is $19.06. but after Savings Catcher and Ibotta the total would be $11.19! Not too bad for stuff that we regularly go through!!

We are getting low so I grabbed a pack of about 6lbs, probably about 10-12 breasts. Then, today I had to grab a couple things for dinner at my local grocery store and walked by the chicken case and they had whole chickens marked WAY down! Like, must have been a mistake! I got 1 chicken for $1.45 and another for $1.60!!!! They were both around 5lb birds. I don't know what's going on with chicken prices down here, but I like it!

I picked up the chicken from Sam's too! I usually buy their 10 pound bag of frozen chicken breast the the fresh chicken was actually cheaper. I like to freeze the chicken with marinades or fajita seasoning so I prefer fresh but its usually way more expensive than frozen.

Lentils are rather new to me as well. But they are tasty, filling and a breeze to cook. I just looked up a couple of recipes and since we love Indian food, we just use garam masala seasoning and chicken stock to cook up the lentils on the stovetop or in the crockpot and then spoon that over jasmine rice. A big pot does me lunch all week!! For less than a buck a day! Awesome!! Another recipe was a lentil stew. That was super easy...just fired everything in the crock.

Seriously, I could NOT believe it!!!! It really had to be a mistake. I bought 1 first to see if it would ring up ok, which it did. Then I went back to get a few more, but by the time I got there, there was only 1 left. That's ok though- 2 chickens for about $3 is ok by me

Normally, whole chickens here are about $6 or more depending on the size.

went to the grocery store w/dh to pick up a prescription and walked over to the meat department to kill some time while he was waiting in line-had to grab him to make sure I was reading an ad sign correctly:

pork country style ribs-normally $3.99 per pound (which I would never think to pay)/on sale in value packs for $2.79 per pound BUT the store gave the option of paying full price and getting a buy 1 value pack-GET 2 value packs FREE

we ended up with 14 1/2 pounds of pork ribs costing $1.40 per pound-we air sealed them in bags of 2 ribs each (big enough that one each for dh and I will be more than enough) but took the smaller ones (with no bones) and did them up in 1# bags for some crockpot dishes that call for pork.

not as great a deal but still a good savings for us-Costco boneless lamb legs @ $5.99 per pound. grabbed 2 to make into 1# packages of ground lamb (1# packages of ground lamb run on average about $7.99 per pound here with allot of waste due to fat content) and a few 1# bulk packs (for lamb hot pot and stews).


ds benefited from one of this week's finds as well-full size red baron pizzas for $2.44 each. got him the 4 the ad limited purchases to so he's got some munchies in the freezer.
