Tempura at Japan???

My husband LOVED the tempura/sushi bar at Japan (the one near the tepanyaki area) and wants to eat there again. Noone at WDW-DINE can say if this is going to be reopened or demolished. Can someone give me the 411. We lived in Japan for 3 years and this was the most "authentic" Japanese to be found at WDW. THANKS!

I was wanting to go there too on my next visit (I lived in Japan for a year and love tempura bars. They haven't really caught on here the way sushi bars have, it seems).

All I saw is that they are going to take out both Tempura Kiko and the Matsunoma lounge and replace them with one restaurant called Tokyo Dining. I have seen that they will offer sushi but there's nothing about tempura, although it's sort of a staple in the US because a lot of people don't like sushi. Probably have to wait until the menu comes out.

When you lived in Japan do you remember the wonderful different salts they had to put on the tempura? I loved sitting at the counter and ordering different pieces, much like a sushi bar.

I don't remember that, but it's been 20 years. I mostly remember how fresh the tempura was from a bar, since you get each piece as it's cooked vs. from a restaurant where they just bring out a plate of it.

I was thinking of going to Rangestu, too. Someone here on the Dis recommended it, and it looked like it might have good sukiyaki. That's something that I've been really disappointed with from U.S. restaurants since I want to cook my own at the table and I want the meat to be excellent quality. (I'm sure bigger cities have this readily available, but where I live the Japanese food just isn't that good.)
