I know this information was posted in the last couple of weeks, but for the life of me, I can't find the thread!

I'm looking for the thread that talked about the USAir promotion which allowed people to register for a 90-day trial as a preferred status customer.

Also, if anyone has used this successfully (registered and possibly booked and flown already would be great), I'd love to hear some feedback!

Thanks!

The Trial Preferred program gives you Silver, Gold, or Platinum status for 90 days.

Within that 90 days you have to fly 7,500 miles or 10 segments to maintain Silver, 15,000 miles or 20 segments for Gold, or 22,500 or 30 segments for Platinum.

You will be entitled to the all the Preferred perks as listed in the second link below. Though as a Silver with 0 PQMs to date you chance of an upgrade are slim to none.

IIRC, they are running a promo for complimentary Silver Trail Preferred until the end of the month.

I signed up for the promotion when I saw it posted here on the DIS. I figured it would be more than worth my time due to the benefit of the free checked baggage.

Tonight, I am the happy recipient of a confirmed upgrade to first class! Got the email and double checked my online flight info and it was there as well! :)

I was debating splurging on first class this trip (it's a special surprise trip for my son's birthday) so this upgrade was very well timed! :)

So, although we have yet to fly, my account was successfully upgraded to Silver Preferred status and I was upgraded to first class through the automated first class upgrade process. HTH!

We flew 2 weeks ago - didn't have to pay for the 1 bag we checked. We have another flight coming up next month, but I'm sure we won't qualify to keep the Silver Status.

Thanks guys for your input. I did sign up for the promotion before it expired and booked our flight to MCO for later this month. Psyched for the previous poster who was upgraded- that ought to make a nice perk for this special trip.

Regarding the PP who noted the chance of an upgrade was very slim-while an upgrade would be nice, I'm not really expecting it and it wasn't the reason I was interested in this promotion. Also, I don't need to utilize preferred lanes at the airport checkpoints because I work for TSA and going through security is second nature for me. I was happy just to have avoided the baggage fees for this trip and to be able to pick preferred assigned seats since our flight looked pretty full and there wasn't another set of seats together anywhere else on the plane.

Thanks again everyone for the info!

I am thinking of flying USAir next year. Does anyone know if I sign up for the free 90 trial program, can I get my baggage fees waived for a flight 10 months from now. If so, I am going to book now. If not, I will probably wait for SW or Airtran. THANKS!!

No. Once you drop down to a General Member you lose all the Silver perks for your previously booked reservations. You *might* be able to retain preferred seats but I wouldn't count on it.
