I realize that none of us can see into the future, but have you ever been in the Orlando area and been able to swim (in a heated pool)?
I have been in the area at the end of November and we were able to.

Thanks!

January is very changeable. I've only been to WDW toward the very end of Jan into early Feb (3X). Once it was quite warm----mid 80's all week. The other time it was 55-70 all week and final the last week it was rainy and never got out of the mid to upper 50's during the day. So you'll really need to keep a close watch on the local Orlando forecast and be prepared to pack for a variety of temperatures. Not sure where you are from, but for many of us----even 50's is better than the frigid temps we're coming from. So it might not be swimming weather necessarily, but hopefully you can get a quick thaw. :sunny:

As the previous poster said, January can be a month of extreme temps. A few years ago we were there for 5 days and the temps ranged from 32 to 60s. The 32 degrees had FL worried about freezing pipes and oranges. It was weird to see the lifeguards at CBR bundled in what looked like snowsuits huddled around a steaming pool!!!

So be prepared for ANYTHING!!!! :teeth:

My family is also going in January, a bit nervous about the weather but anything is better than Massachusetts in January!! Have fun!

Exactly ! This is pretty much how we felt and we're from PA. One January we left for WDW and had to park on the roof of the garage at Philly International. There was about 3-4 inches of snow and ice (leftover from a previous storm that just wouldn't melt) and it was in the 30's. Touched down to Orlando about 2 hours later to about 62 degrees and it felt like heaven---not quite swimming weather unless you're really brave---but felt like a heat wave to us :sunny:

You have a slight chance to have temps above low 70's. You are much more likely to need a lightweight jacket. In other words I wouldnt' count on swimming.

We have been there the last three years in January. As the other's stated there can be extreme temperature differences. I LOVE the parks in January, it usually is chilly in the mornings (pack gloves) but recovers up to the high 60's low 70's, sometimes you even luck into a 80's day here and there. My kids have always swam in the heated pools every year we have gone. Last year I sat on the side of the pool wrapped in a beach towel and they talked me into coming in the pool coz it was warmer, they were right. We are from PA so if it's in the 70's and the pool is heated to at least 85 degrees in January we really feel like we are on a tropical vacation. ENJOY

Amen! (only substitute New York for Masschusetts in that statement) :rotfl2:

January is great golf weather at Disney. I was there last year for the last weekend of January and had great weather, wore shorts a couple of times, long pants at night. Going back this January and hopefully I'll have to stay there longer as everyone back home in Mass. will be buried in snow.

We're going in January too. We are figuring the same thing being from NY- it can most likely only be better in WDW. We did get pool heat at the villa we rented. Just in case- DS may want to swim if we're lucky and get some 70 degree days. We have a separate hottub though too- and I'm sure we'll use that.

I have been down in January and February. As the others have said the weather can be unpredictable. For us, we needed a light jacket/sweatshirt when we arrived at the parks. Then, within 1 - 2 hours, we were in sleeveless shirts. But as soon as the sun went down we needed the sweatshirts again! We jsut rented lockers at the park to put our stuff.

On the days I did not go to the park I was able to layout at the pool, but not until later in the morning.

Have fun!
