We started talking about actually booking Disney trip last fall. Booked in Feb for our Oct trip with ADRs end of April and FPs last week. And in a few days we'll be telling our kids (9 and 5 years)! :yay::dance3::banana::banana::dance3::yay:

I've created this slide show of different Disney pictures...the castle, characters, various rides, the food (e.g. Mickey's Ice cream bar, Mickey waffles), fireworks, our resort...with the last page asking "How about a trip to Disney". Our kids do mention Disney once in awhile but my DS will add "I know...we need to wait for x (our DD) to be older". Am sooo excited to see their reaction.

How did you all break the exciting news?

Well, we're not telling my dd until her birthday in November, and we go in January. It's killing me keeping it a secret, the other times my kids have gone they have known ahead of time that it was coming up, but this time my daughter is already a year late going because of illness in the family, so she thinks that she has to wait now for quite awhile. She has NO CLUE she's going so 'soon'. lol

My mom takes each of her grandkids when they turn 8, it's a special one on one trip (I join in too because I just can't let them see Disney without me! LOL!)...

I'm not sure how my mom will tell her, but I have a Disney photo album that I want to wrap up with her passport inside and a note telling her that she has (at the time) 12 weeks to go before Disney.

How exciting and what a cute way to share the news! We've just decided to go early Dec. 2015. We will keep it a secret until Thanksgiving and then I will make a special "Disney" paper turkey to surprise them.

Wow will your kids be thrilled! What a great way to tell them, be sure to have your camera out!

When we went in '13 it was a trip for my birthday from the September before. I opened the birthday gift and the kids knew when I did. Our upcoming trip the kids don't know about because it's Feb '16 and that's too long to wait for anything to happen. We are telling them Christmas morning '15 but we haven't decided exactly how. 'Probly with alotta balloons in a box. Something to really make it a surprise.

I know...it's such a hard secret to keep isn't it?
Am sorry about having to delay because of family illness. Glad you're able to go in the new year.

Yep...I saw with the laptop with our kids while DH video taped it. Our DS's reaction was quite priceless. We went through the pictures and then as he read the last page, he went crazy, jumping up and down. Our DD5 didn't quite get it, but it was cute as she had a big smile watching DS.

That's a cute way with balloons to break the news.

A few years ago, Santa made a video for our kids letting them know that they were going. It was wrapped in a pretty metallic box with pjs, toys, and g.c.s surrounding it. Awesome reveal!!!

Three of our 4 trips have actually been surprises. I surprised my daughter for our first trip in 2010. She was 7. I laid out all of the stuff I’d gotten for the trip and put a note “from” Princess Tiana telling her I was bringing her and her brother to spend Thanksgiving week with her and all her friends. The plane leaves tomorrow. It took her a minute to figure it out. I said “Where does Tiana live?” She asked if it started with a D and when I said it did, the screaming began. My son was 10 months so he didn’t know what was going on, but he clapped while dd ran around the room singing “We’re Going to Disney…we’re going to Disney!”

We went again in 2012, she was 9 and he was 2.5. They knew the whole time. After that, my daughter told me she preferred to be surprised because the waiting was so hard.

So in 2013, I surprised them again. Now my daughter and I love watching those surprise videos on youtube, but that also means there’s no need for me to try to set up any kind of elaborate thing we see in some of them. If I even say scavenger hunt, it would be blown. My son was 3.5 by this time so he was aware of what was happening. We drove instead of flying so I told them 3 days out. It was just after dd’s school year had ended and I told her I was printing a chore list for her and to wait by the printer for it to come out. When it came out she got this huge grin on her face. The top of the page said “Disney 2013 Packing List”. She asked if we were really going and I said yes. She screamed “We’re going to Disney” and she and ds ran around the room celebrating. I still had a lot of prep to do for the long road trip so we spent the next 3 days doing that.

This year, we flew again so I went back to telling them the day before. We were heading out to do errands, which dd normally hates, but she didn’t know they were “going on vacation” errands, which she loves. Once they were in the van I thanked her for cooperating and getting dressed and going out on a Saturday because I know errands aren’t her favorite thing. Then I gave her a note in an envelope and told her to read it so her brother could hear it.

Once she pulled it out, she opened it very slowly. I think at that point she had at least a hope of what it was because she could see Mickey even though it was still folded. She screamed “I KNEW IT!” then read it. It was Mickey really happy saying, “Hot Dog, (dd’s name and ds’ name) are flying to Disney World tomorrow!” Then she said, “ha ha mom…funny”. Once I confirmed it my son’s eyes got big and the screaming began. She still asked me two more times if I was serious. For some reason, she couldn’t believe I had kept it a secret that long even though I’d done it twice before.

I’m really wanting to do a cruise instead for our next trip and have been since ds finished potty training. Of course they are both already begging to return to Disney.

I booked our trip yesterday for next November 2015. It will be us and another family...none of the kids know. In fact my friend sat her kids down and told them it would be a very long time before they can go back to WDW (they just went in February).
They are driving so their plan is to not tell the kids at all until they get to Orlando. The cover story will be that they are going to St Louis to visit family, since they are leaving in the evening it won't be that odd to stop for the night. Their kids are so into their Gameboys they won't notice.
We are 98% sure we are flying. I was going to wait until we got to the Magical Express but I don't think I can. I may have to spill the beans at the airport before we leave. Then our kids have to be on radio silence because they will immediately call the other two and tell them!:hyper:
