Telling a bride you think she looks fat 2 weeks before her wedding...

I am so sorry your mother hurt you that way. I can relate but on a much more exaggerated scale. My mother told me they didn't make wedding gowns for girls as large as I was and she'd found a seamstress who could put panels of lace in the sides to make the dress that she bought in the largest size available fit, but that the seamstress needed to figure out how many yards to order. :sad1:

When I tried on my gown for my vow renewal this Saturday and saw the gorgeous hourglass shape that the gown created, I thought of when my father told me at age 11 to put to "put on a God..m belt" because I had no waist and looked like a blob. It's amazing how the people who love us most think they can say hurtful, heartless things and profess to be doing it for our own good.

Please do not let anyone make you feel badly about yourself. You will be absolutely beautiful!

OMG CAM :grouphug: :grouphug: :grouphug: I knew about the dress but your father :scared1: :scared1: :scared1: That is just terrible to say to anyone let alone a child :grouphug: :grouphug: :grouphug: That just makes what you've done that much more amazing :goodvibes

;_; Yeah, I guess it's a common thing for a lot of us, huh?

Society is bad enough about body image for girls, it sucks that sometimes our parents just pile on and make it worse.

My mom was totally like "I'm telling you for your own good!"

Anyway, I haven't made up with her in terms of.. she'll never apologize for being the way she is, but I just deal with it and try to ignore it and move on. She herself is the tiniest woman with tiny bones, and I'm bigger than her, which in her mind constitutes "fat". (BTW, I 100% don't think of myself as fat. I'm just self conscious about a few problem areas, like most women! And my parents always seem to know exactly which areas to pinpoint and make me feel like crap!)

But yeah, having someone criticize your appearance is just one of those things that's REALLY hard to ignore when under wedding stress! Oh well...

(Oh, and KittyKat08, yay for curves! LOL I like to think of it that way too, I actually have curves now!)

Oh that's terrible! I'm sorry your mother could be like that...and I have total sympathy! My mother is wonderful in almost every way and I love her dearly, but for my first wedding dress fitting she told me I looked "a little like a marshmallow, dear" and I'm a size 0! She also spent days wobbling my arms and suggesting toning exercises!
I tried dieting before the wedding and got so hungry that, two days before the wedding, I had a nightmare I walked up the aisle and ate the groom. After that I stopped listening and realized that on the day, I could have been naked and it would have been the best day ever!

omg is right. You're my hero for getting through that with sanity.:grouphug:

I can't remember how many times I looked like a crazy nut giving myself pep talks on how to just ignore my parents.

I have lost 70+lbs in the last year and to this day, my mother says "well just don't blow it"
No.."wow honey..you look great!!" " I can't believe you lost so much" just DON'T BLOW IT!!
*&*(#&$

 ...thanks. mom.

I really would not worry about it!! I tried to lose weight and lost 14 lbs but not as much as I wanted. On the day nothing mattered and I had back fat but it didnt bother me as I was marrying the man i loved and he loves me the way i am.

You just have to think you are marrying the man you love, take no notice of anyone else

Well said! I haven't lost nearly as much as I wanted to but time is running out and my dress fittings start next week. Oh well...like you said, the man I love, loves me for who I am. He even said to me when we got engaged,I hope you aren't going to starve yourself for the wedding day! How cute is that!

He should know me well enough to know that I am incapable of starving myself! :rotfl2:

I am so sorry that your mom said that! I am in the same boat as you, with the exception of time.

Honestly, I am dreading the dress shopping excursion with my mother. She let me know that I was too fat for a lot of the dresses... (even though they have a size that would fit me). To which I said (to her surprise) that I am dieting for health only and not to fit into a dress. I told her she would prefer that I go shopping by myself I would be happy to bring someone else who wouldn't tell me that I was fat.

I think you should look at the photos of you in your dress, and ask yourself if you are happy and think you look beautiful. Then go from there!

Remember Stephanie from Full House? To quote her "HOW RUDE!!"

You are going to be a beautiful bride. Ignore the bad Mom karma. :cool2:

That's horrible! My mom's always told me that I'm fat, because she's a size 00 and I'm a 4. I know that I look fine and I'm a healthy weight, and that's all that matters.

A 4?! And you're fat?! WHA?! What is with the mothers of the brides here? EEK!
