Tell Us Your Tightwad Secrets!!

Don't mean to be a killjoy here, but the best way to save money is, don't go
to Disney World! Besides your mortgage and food, Disney may be your biggest expense. If your going w/out AC on 95+ days, and making your own hair detangler, this may be Gods way of saying, Disney isnt for you
Hmm... God must own stock in Johnson & Johnson then if he/she wants us all to spend $3.69 on detangler that we can make ourselves for about .10 LOL. :rotfl:

Maybe, just maybe, most of us can easily afford to throw money left and right, buy the most expensive brands, jack up the AC all summer, heat and cool parts of the house we don't even use, suck down electricity and water as if there's no tomorrow... AND go to Disney World as often as we like. Maybe we CHOOSE not to. ;)

My Great Aunt is close to being a millionaire, btw. She buys her clothing at thrift shops and her food/household supplies in bulk. She does most of the rest of her shopping at discount stores, still plants a garden every year and cans veggies for winter use. Not because she must, but because she chooses.

We buy the Kirkland brand at Costco which is already 50% less than bounce and if we cut that in 1/2 that is still a quarter the price of the more expensive brand sheets. I just can't go to a quarter!

Dawn

We cut the laundry sheets in half, but I've never done fourths! I might have to scale down to that. ;)

Also, use less of most soap products. I only use 1/2-3/4 of the suggested amount of laundry and dish detergent.

Wash laundry in only cold water.

Hang dry all spring, summer and fall instead of using the dryer!

Use only 1/2-3/4 of the amount of sugar suggested in most recipes. (This is an easy calorie saver too!)

Don't buy flavored tea in bottles. I make my own with 1 regular tea bag and 2 flavored ones. (Mint, orange, mango, ginger, whatever I'm in the mood for.) Steep these in hot water, then mix with cold water and sweeten to taste and you have a yummy iced tea drink for a day or two that only cost a few pennies to make.

Please explain this to me...

Unwrap your bars of soap as soon as you purchase them - they'll last longer..
I believe the soap hardens when exposed to air, making it dissolve more slowly when you use it with water. Softer soap dissolves faster, but doesn't get you any cleaner. My Granny told me that a long time ago. I haven't researched to see if it's been proven or not, but I do it. :)

like the old saying "How do you think they got so rich".
Maybe all of us penny pinchers are loaded. Did you ever think of that.
I pinch a penny here to pay cash for everything etc.
Nothing wrong with watching how you spend YOUR money because it is YOUR money. Go Tightwads.

This isn't much of a tightwad secret, but thought it might help someone.

We tend to buy a lot of games at the thrift store and most are in great shape. Today I bought two that didn't come with directions! So I went to the hasbro site and lo and behold they actually have directions online for all of their games that you can print out. It might help if someone lost the directions to their game as well.

I use the Target website coupons to stock up all I can. Last week, I got 12 frenches mustard for 9 cents each. I also got mott's apple juice for 67 cents.

stock up when on sale.
