I have applied for a couple of jobs and so I'm hoping that I will have a couple of interviews before too much longer!

Trouble is, nerves usually get the better of me (I get really nervous) and I always come away feeling I haven't performed to my best and haven't really shown them the real me.

Anyone got any ideas?

Oh Deb, I wished I did. I'm hopeless at interviews and can feel how I'm coming across and want to say 'shtop shtop I'm not ready yet!'

I hope someone can give you more contructive help than me commiserating with you:rolleyes:

Are you looking for a change from work or change of career?

Now I have always done research but like you say when you get in there it all changes. My Doctor recommended Bachs Rescue Remedy. They sell it in Boots etc. You put a few drops under your tongue when you need it. I was very sceptical but it works. I put it to the ultimate teat when I last flew to Orlando (HATE FLYING) and I was cool totally ok. Not fine but ok.

Bacardi!

Hmmm...well it works for me at any rate :) Sorry I don't really have any other advice...I haven't had an interview for about 10 years!

Penny :)

Sorry, no magic remedies to suggest, Deb.

I think being prepared is as good advice as any, even though you can't totally pre-guess what you might get asked. Other than that I'd suggest making sure you leave loads of time to get there so that you can walk in looking cool, calm and relaxed! (But I expect you'd aready thought of that.)

Hey, if they ask for any glowing character references, just tell them to check out the boards - we'll post a few for you ;)

Firstly all the best for your forthcoming interviews.
A degree of nervousness before such major events is normal & actually desirable - it keeps the adreneline pumping and makes you sharper. (If you are too cool - it can come across as complacency!)
Something I do, sometimes, is think what is the worst that can happen - I don't get the job - so no change then. so why worry.
Always helps if you smile and appear cheerful, it gives a good impression - always preferable to having a dreary person around! It helps to lift your spirits up too.
Not sure if this helps.
Best wishes though.....

Deb

Don't even go there...this will be hard to beat

Interview for - PA @ Oil Company - Good money at the time.
... ..when the interviewee a bloke who was to be polite, pleasantly plump, asked me if I had any questions

I said "yes, what is your nickname?"

Where the blazes did that come from?????????? he answered my question totally non pulsed - and said Billy Bunter and some other that are not so nice.

OMG .......I could have died!

But hey, I got the job:D :D :D

No tips for you Debbie but just want to wish you good luck.
I don't have that problem I dont have to have a job I'm a carer.

Deb

LOL,What on earth were you thinking of!;)

It worked though didn't it:D

A tip there (UK)Deb,what do you think;)

Hi Deb - no wonder cure here either! I do want to wish you the best of luck though - I hope that you get what your hoping for.

Bach's Rescue Remedy works for me too - worth having in your bag just in case.

I have interviewed people in the past, and a good firm handshake always comes across as
someone who is confident :)

I also like it when the interviewee has one or two questions to ask, it shows that they have some interest in the position apart from "How Much, How Long and How Soon?" (How much wages, How long do I get for holidays, and How soon can I go off sick!!???) LOL

Seriously though - a couple of decent questions impressed me, also, is it possible to do some research about the Companies that you are applying too?

Anyway - I do wish you luck and let us know how you get on ? :)

Debbie - no wonder cure here either, but stating the obvious - you're really not doing too bad already. You've plucked up the courage to apply for the jobs - that's half the battle.

Good luck - believe in yourself.

Let us know how you get on.

Happy weekend

I'm not up on job interviews I'm afraid but I do get very nervous when I am competing so I tend to imagine having a large whisky, then another, then another and by the time I am finished I am lovely and relaxed! The 1st time I did this I won the class.
Good luck anyway.

Imagine the interviewer in his underwear!!:D :o

...supposed to work for public speaking too ;)

I don't really have any suggestions Deb

But i wish you lots of luck with your interviews and i am sure you will be fine, please let us know how you get along!
