Tell Me Your GF Afternoon Tea Experiences please!!!

We went for tea at 3pm on Valentine's Day, 2003. It was fun, but we thought it was overpriced for the very small portions served. We definitely wanted supper later that evening... but of course, we each got a "service" and didn't order anything additional to share. It was lovely and relaxing, just expensive for what we got. We DID enjoy watching several Disney weddings while we were there, including one complete with Cinderella's glass carriage, horses, and footmen!

I've been several times with a good friend, enough that the wait staff recognizes us! I ordered the Buckingham palace tea the first time, because I didn't know what to expect. Now I usually order the scones,jam tart, pound cake, and my FAVORITE tea is the nobo whole fruit! Soo yummy and fruity.

My most memorable experience was going on Halloween in costume!

As someone else already mentioned, ask for Angela or Patricia! We've always had lovely service from these two ladies

OP here, one more question please. How long should we allow for this? Someone said you don't feel rushed, that sounds wonderful!! We will have been with the grandkids for 9 days prior to our tea, so will LOVE the relaxation time!

Dh and I just returned from a weekend at WDW. We had the tea on Saturday 05/29/10 and I wanted to come back to the thread to post a short review because I had gotten such great info here and wanted to report back.

I had been unsure if this would be enough food for lunch. And, boy was it ever! We didn't order anything extra although I had considered ordering a side order of blue cheese or a side order of the Sally Lunn bread. I'm glad we didn't because we were totally full. Besides the food, all that tea takes up a lot of room!

We both ordered a Buckingham Palace: Buckingham Palace - Our traditional tea sandwiches, scones and jam tarts complemented by fresh strawberries and cream, or a selection of freshly baked pastries, along with your choice of tea. $19.50 per guest.

Dh wanted a decaf tea and the waitress told him several choices although they aren't listed on the menu. He ordered the decaf English Breakfast tea. I think this was the one: Imperial English Breakfast - Elegant and refined smooth sweetness. A blend of Ceylon and China Black Teas.

I had read here that iced teas were an option so I asked the waitress. She said that you can order any of the teas in an iced tea version. I had the Mad Hatter iced tea, which the waitress said was an excellent choice and it was! VERY delish! She brought out a tall fancy glass filled with ice and a tea pot of the tea: Mad Hatter - A blend of passion fruit, pomegranate, and vanilla for a clean and sweet finish. Perfect with decadent desserts and companions.

We both agree that the sandwiches were nondescrip (even though the waitress explained each one). Really, I could tell which one was the shrimp salad but the rest were the same-ish and as someone else commented on this thread (I belive it was this thread), the bread was kinda stale-ish. I don't like onions so the waitress said no problem I could have another sandwich in place of the onion tart. I had an extra sandwich but I really don't know which one it was.

The scones and jam tart were very good. The scones were very fresh.

The next course was according to the menu: "scones and jam tarts complemented by fresh strawberries and cream, or a selection of freshly baked pastries" - but the waitress said another choice was the English Trifle. I had the trifle and it was excellent. Dh had the fresh strawberries and cream and it was delish, too. It was a very big serving of strawberries and the fresh cream was excellent. I saw someone at the next table order the selection of baked pastries and you get to choose 2 pastries. I'm glad we ordered the trifle and the fresh strawberries, they were really good.

Our ressies were at 2:20 but we were there at 2:00, got in line when they opened and they took us right away. The restaurant had several empty tables the entire time we were there. It had just rained really hard so I'm not sure if that had kept people away. The entire meal took 1 hour and 15 minutes. Our waitress was definitely a little slower than the waiter waiting on the table next to us. I am glad they go thru the courses slowly so that you can really enjoy the experience. But, towards the end, things were really going slow.

The piano player in the lobby starts playing at 3:00 and the band plays at 4:00. I wish we had been able to hear more of the piano player.

Overall, it was a very enjoyable experience. I would definitely recommend it and would love to do it again.

Thank you for that wonderful review Lucas! We are doing this for the first time in November and I can't wait! I'm thinking I will probably get the Mad Hatter tea because I like my tea to be sweet.

My adult DD and I love doing this. We get the whole "shabang"(sp?) which I think is approx. $25/pp. LOVE IT.
