I am thinking about booking an inpromptu vacation at Disney from Dec 17th-22nd. I can't resist the email code for Wilderness lodge...

Please tell me why you like Disney this time of year?

I love DW afew weeks earlier, crowds are gone from Thanksgiving holiday but the resorts are decorated so beautifully in Dec, I enjoy this month in DW the most!

We've been a few times the week AFTER Thanksgiving (this year, we'll be arriving Dec 8).

The weather is usually very nice this time of year (hasn't been too cold for us, although a few times, its been too cold for us to swim!) The crowds are minimal; a lot of stuff is a walk on.

But the decorations at Christmas are wonderful!!! Well worth the trip! The Candlelight Processional at Epcot and Mickey's Very Merry Christmas Party are both great!!!

Can't wait to go back!!!

This is our absolute favorite time of year to visit WDW. The parks are especially magical when all decked out for the holidays. Plus, there are wonderful special events like Mickey's Very Merry Christmas Party, the Candlelight Processional, and the Osborne Family Spectacle of Lights. It is also a ton of fun to tour the various resorts to see how they incorporated their resort's theme into the Christmas decorations (for example, the Wilderness Lodge's tree has tee pee ornaments on it). Also, the weather is generally pretty mild (but pack for all kinds of weather from hot to cold) and the crowds are light.

If you have never seen WDW at Christmas, you are missing something truely magical. We have gone twice. Night time is espicially beatuful. The resorts and parks are decorated with all kinds of Christmas joy. Each one is unique in it's own way. The two times we were there was between the week of Christmas and New Years. It was very crowded during the day both times. At night it gets a little chilly (we had winter coats and we are from the Northeast), but if you can stick it out, the crowds thin out when it's cold at night. I can remember walking on a number of popular rides that had 90 minute wait times during the day. I wish I was going this Christmas, but will have to wait until Easter instead.

I usually go in the beginnng of December.

The decorations are great, the crowds low and the weather is always better than home.

The MVMCP, snow on Main St, charactors in xmas costume, gingerbread house at GF, chocolate carousel at BCV, Osbourne lights at MGM, CP at EPCOT......... Need I go on.

I'm sure that Dec. 17 and on will be busier, but will still be a good time to go.

My parents and I were there last year Dec 9 to I think the 15th. The Decorations are beautiful. It really puts you in the Christmas Spirit. The holiday shows and special events for the holidays are not to be missed. The gingerbread house at the GF was a highlight and seeing all the resorts decked out in their Christmas Clothes. At the parks the Candle Light Prosessional at EPCOT and VMCP party. Our restaurant highlights were our Turkey dinner at Liberty Tree Tavern in MK and our special dinner at Victoria & Alberts. Even the restaurants have a awesmone Christmas feel to them. I plan to return maybe December 2005. Just thinking about my trip and writing this post brings back such fond memories.

You are going to be going at a busy time. We go the first 10 days in December normally. We have taken the kids out of school, as they will have a week before Christmas break then back at school to make up what they missed. Is it worth it? Oh yes. I wouldn't want to go later than the 16th as the crowds will be larger. As others have said, the first part of the month is less crowded. And to see WDW at Christmas is more magical than any of us can describe to you.

IMHO - The perfect time of year to visit WDW is from the weekend after Thanksgiving until the weekend starting the Christmas holidays.

Why:
  • Light Crowds (Very light by the Tuesday after Turkey day)
  • Value Season Prices
  • Christmas Decorations
  • Discounts of all types are available
  • The weather is just right - not too hot, not too cold
  • Christmas 'Specials' - MVMCP, Candlelight Processional, etc
  • All the attractions are running (some things go down for annual refurb after New Year)
  • LOTS of CMs around - all the 'extras' hired for Thanksgiving and Christmas are there
You'll see!

Stink -- What was the weather like last year when you went early December? I'm really hoping the kids will be able to use the pool and maybe make one trip to Blizzard Beach (I think that's the one that will be open when we are there)

We are going Dec. 5th to Dec. 11th, it seems like alot of people have been saying it's pretty cold then, I was wondering since you went last year about the same time what your weather was like?

We went a couple of years ago during the second week of December. The parks are beautiful. The Grand Floridian had a huge Christmas tree in the lobby. Truly Breathtaking. You've got to see that. When we went though, it was hot, I'm talking about June or July hot. We were supposed to get a cold front, but it never happened. So pack shorts, bathing suits and jeans.
