Why should or shouldn't I move to your town/city/state? I am doing a project that involves getting all these opinions. Hopefully all this information will help me. Tell me things like crime, population, education, people, demographics, climate, friendly factor, fun things to do, even what kind of bad things. Such as, for Minnesota, the mosquitos are horrible in the summer. Tell me if in the southeast there really are gators and snakes and cockroaches and crawling all over, all the time. Are there rattlesnakes in your back yard in Arizona? I want to know every reason why you would LURE someone to your place, any every reason you would give them to STAY AWAY!! You can do it for your city, your state, your neighborhood, it does not matter. Are there any neighborhoods I should stay away from??? I am trying to get this project rolling, hoping to get enough information to make it worthwhile, so tell me everything and anything. If you would rather email it to me, my address is kayan_bell@yahoo.com

Thanks SO much in advance. I will let you know how this project turns out!!!!!!

I live in Norman, OK.

You should move here because:
the cost of living is low
the people are friendly - pull out the stops for anyone in need
the winters are pretty mild, but we still have seasons
it is a college town with lots of activities for public to attend
crime is low
you are close to Oklahoma City and Dallas
traffic isn't bad, even if you commute to Oklahoma City
housing is pretty reasonable compared to other states
some of the best public schools in Oklahoma
gas is cheaper than other states
we have lots of brick houses, and I like them :-)

You shouldn't move here because:
it's windy most of the time
we have lots of snakes and spiders
the job market isn't that great right now
housing is high compared to other parts of our state
the summers are hot and humid
not as much money put into education in our state
you need a connecting flight to fly just about anywhere
most construction doesn't include a basement
we live in tornado alley

I live on Florida's space coast.

Reason's why you would want to live here:
Beautiful weather from November through March (give or take a couple cold days).
The beach!
Being able to stand in your yard and watch a rocket or shuttle launch.
Low cost of living including no state income tax and lowish property taxes.
Housing is affordable.
1 hour away from WDW.
Port Canaveral is only 20-some miles away (need my DCL fix soon).

Reason's why you wouldn't want to live here:
Icky hot and humid weather April through October with August and September being the absolute worst (give or take a couple of ok days).
This area is very dependent on space and department of defense programs.
Because we don't have a state income tax and have lowish property taxes, we rely on toursim dollars to keep the state going. As tourism drops so does the quality of our state programs and public education. While we do have good schools around here, it's nothing what it could be. If I had a child, he or she would be sent to private school.
Hurricanes, actually just the threat of hurricanes.
Not enough cultural activites.
Too small town.
Not enough shopping choices.
Infrastructure is not keeping up with development, thus traffic on all major roads and schools are way overcrowded.
Pay is less because of the sunshine factor (employers figure you WANT to live here).
No real seasons.
Okay I could go on and on with this part of the list. That's why I am always amazed when people post about wanting to move to Florida.

St. Paul, Minnesota

SHOULD
Very friendly people
Big city, but easy to get around
4 seasons makes things beautiful
Mall of America is 10 minutes away!
The lakes
Fun celebrations (Aquatennial, Taste of MN, Winter Carnival)
No snakes etc., crawling all over. Only daddy long leg spiders, really..
The forests, the plains, the shore....all within a couple hour drive..
Couple of Fortune 500 companies, and a lot of other hq'd here - good job market...

SHOULD NOT
Mosquitoes
4 seasons - very warm summers with high humidity, and cold winters.
Housing can be expensive. Same as anywhere, really, but it does not accurately match with incomes.
Always road construction season ;)

Positives:

NO SNOW!
NO SHOVELING!
Flat, easy commute to work!
No car inspections!
Sunshine almost each and every day of the year!
Beaches!
Only 1-1/2 hrs. from WDW!
Friendly people!
No state income tax!
Excellent cultural offerings!
A/C everywhere!
Spring training for major baseball teams!
Home of the 2003 Super Bowl Winner -- TAMPA BAY BUCCANEERS!!!
Low cost of living!
Good salaries!

Negatives:
Hot, humid weather in the summer months.
Bugs and alligators.
Hurricanes.

Come on down! We've lived in Rochester, NY and Allentown, PA and will NEVER GO BACK!

I live in South Florida
I guess everyone knows the good thing about living here:
1. The WEATHER (We actually enjoy the hot summers too)

There are many reasons NOT to move here. The main one being:
IT'S TOO CROWDED!!!
There are housing developments right next to the Everglades.
There a huge condos being built on the coast.
The schools are overcrowded and underfunded.
A LOT of people don't speak any English.
A LOT of people don't know how to drive and don't have any car insurance.
Locals pretty much give up trying to go anywhere when it's "the season". It's getting harder and harder to tell when the season is over.
There are just too many people here!
I've lived here for 30 years and I own my own pre-school, I've established roots and this is "home."
But, I wouldn't recommend moving here.

If you love mountains, love caves, love the civil war, move to my town.:) If you love the country life, move to my town.:) If you want an education, move to my state.:) We have the Hope grants that the Georgia Lottery funds.:) If you want a state lottery, move to my state.:) If you like to hear people call you sugar, baby, etc. move to my state. If you like to hear please and thank you, move to my state.:) If you like to hear southern twang, move to Georgia.:) If you like living where everyone knows your name, move to my town. If you like going to horse shows, rodeos, etc., move to my town. If you like things at a leisure pace, move to my town.

If you don't like the redneck appeal of life, don't move to my town/state. If you're not directly from my town, you'll always be referred to as "the one not from around here". LOL! I grew up 32 miles away and I get that "oh, you're not from around here" every now and then.:teeth: If you don't like my SO's relatives, don't move to my town.;) If you want cable access, want a constant cell signal for your cell phone, want dsl, do NOT move to my town. If you DON'T like to be called sugar or baby, don't move tomy state.;) If you want to live close to big corporations that pay megabucks, don't move to my town. It's too long of a commute! If you like excellent sports teams in your home state, don't move to Georgia.;) If you like snow, don't move to my town-it rarely snows here.:(

Montessori, I'm wondering...are there too many people there? ;)

I hear ya. I thought maybe I was going insane after FOJMOs post. Personally I'd move back up north in a heartbeat if I could. I wanna know where the good salaries are because I would be making double if not almost triple what I make now if I lived somewhere else.

Reasons to live in Western NY:

Cost of living is pretty good
Housing is very affordable
4 seasons (which some people love, I don't care for it myself)
Proximity to Niagara Falls and Toronto
Very good theater district
Major sports teams (even if they stink)
Friendly people who are very down to earth
Lots of good schools
Lots and lots of bars
The best food on the planet can be found here
Proximity to Lake Erie and the Niagara River

Reason not to live in Western NY:

The job market is horrible
The state of NY taxes everything you do, pretty soon they'll tax breathing.
Snow and cold
Road salt eats away your car
Crime ridden Buffalo
The governor has just proposed serious cuts in aid to our schools
A city government that is absolutely useless
A city school board that is even more useless

We live in suburbs so we avoid the last two.

:D

Reasons you should come to Southern Connecticut:
small town, everyone knows you
4 seasons
close to shopping, restaurants, museums
lots of history, birthplace of David Humphrey, aide to George Washington during Revolutionary War

Reasons you should not come:
small town, everyone knows you
winter
high taxes
congested

Sometimes small towns are great, sometimes not!! 2 hours from NYC, 3 hours from Boston. And most importantly, 1 1/2 hours from Yankee Candle Flagship Store in Deerfield, MA!!:D

If your fond of Sand Dunes and Salty Air.........

Cape Cod is like it's own little world:D
