Tell me why are water parks exhausting?

Being out in the sun with no shade for extended periods alone wears me out. When we go to the beach at home, we go for a few hours max. We're planning to do Blizzard Beach this year but are not really doing a main park on the same day. We'll sleep in, spend a few hours at BB, then grandmas are watching DDs for the evening while DW and I have a relaxing date night. (Or run around like teenagers riding every mountain in MK as many times as possible. ;) )

I don't think anyone's mentioned it, but there are a LOT of stairs. And climbing... and having to carry your own tube.. which I don't understand.. I pay enough money to get into the park, someone else should carry my tube.. In fact, I think they should have a tube launcher that fires the tube from the bottom of the slide to the top.. were a cast member will catch it and place it at the start of the slide, so I can just step into it.

P.S. I mostly stay in the lazy river because there's only a few stairs to get in and out.. and it's just wonderful to float.. although sometimes you have to tip a kid out of an inner tube to get one..

The sun is the main reason. It takes a lot out of your body, especially when it is hot.

S, S, and S.

Sunshine, stairs, and swimming. All three individually will take it out of you; combine them and it's exhausting! Then add in potential dehydration and you've got a recipe for a really good sleep at the end of the day.

At our local waterpark (a waterpark in WA? yep.) they have one slide that does something that, and it's lovely.

Someone else should carry your tube! hahah you made me smile because I got a visual. :goodvibes
It's hard to imagine that the tube is heavy but I believe you!

It's not heavy, but it can be awkward. I'm constantly knocking over little kids who walk slower than I do.. It's a good lesson for them.. they'll learn to keep pace with the crowd. They won't turn into those selfish people who start a conversation in line, stand their talking to each other, and then line moves leaving a 14 foot gap because they're too busy talking to pay attention and MOVE...and then I don't have to stand their fuming and drilling my laser eyes into the back of her head until she sees the gap and then squeaks "oh, the line moved." Then she giggles to her friends as they close the gap and START THE CONVERSATION UP AGAIN... umm.. sorry.. what were talking about?

Stairs and deydration IMO. I'm in really good shape and get exhausted from swimming/water parks. Plus like someone said, you forget to drink when you are surrounded by water.

This post cracks me up! (see mine on page 1) I assume you also are being facetious...;)

Btw, there are water parks that have the big 4-6 person tubes that have a giant conveyor belt that takes the big tubes up to the top for you. It is quite a lovely thought. They are the biggest slides though and therefore have the longest lines, but at least you can just walk up and get on it vs hefting your own tube.

We found Adventure Island's cue very interesting. The line started WHERE YOU PICK UP THE TUBE. If you weren't in line, you DID NOT get a tube. Sometimes that line wound around and around, but there were no stairs there. When you finally waited your 20 min to GET a tube, than you got into the real line, which by the way was much much shorter now (because really half the attraction's line was where the CM gave you a tube down below.) Kind of interesting concept. On a very busy memorial day weekend, it kept it from being a free for all and people fighting over there and also kept us in the shade instead of on the stairs melting. Good crowd control.

Unfortunately, it took us 20 min to get a tube on the lazy river! Sheesh, that's a first for me. Stinkin' water parks close so early, we had to go on our day off...which was also everyone else's day off...

I am not in good shape, and I don't find them exhausting at all! We rarely take the chair lift at BB because of long lines. We don't race up the stairs, just walk at a steady pace and rest near the top for a minute or two!

They wear me out too. Add chasing my kids who speed walk like maniacs through water parks . And the StAIRS. I don't think anyone has mentioned those yet :upsidedow I often get blessed with carrying my tube and my 4/5 year old's tube too.

I think you also don't get as much break, especially if it isn't too busy. At least we didn't. No chair resting for us.

I am intending to do half day park and half day water park. Never been to a water park before.
Why are some people saying water parks are exhausting?
Just liked to know your experience so I can better plan for mine.

Thanks!

:beach:

Probably because you are out in the sun all day and there is effort exerted to enjoy all the water attractions. It can be quite the workout. And we may be more willing to submit to this effort because we want to have fun. Kind of makes the land parks seem low key.
