We stayed at WDW a long time ago (The Disney Inn..now Shades of Green) and the lizards were kind of around the landscaping. We're staying at the Poly:banana: for a week in Sept. and there's all that fabulous lush landscaping and I'm wondering..about.. lizards again. I've read tons of threads and trip reports since I joined the Forum about 3 weeks ago and nobody hardly mentions them. Are the little critters gone? I kind of hope so.

I never saw the lizards at POP but I did see them at OKW last year and they have a lot of tropical landscaping. My DD and I actually like watching the lizards scampering around.

You pretty much can't escape them in Florida. I believe they're called anoles. Personally I think they're kind of cute. When I lived in Florida, I used to like to watch them crawling up and down the fence in the back yard and sunning themselves.

We saw many at the Poly in January and few at SSR a few weeks ago.

Why are you so worried about the lizzards? They won't hurt you :goodvibes I've seen them at every resort at WDW, obviously more in the summer than winter.

I see you're going in Sept. Not only will there be lizards, but possibly love bugs as well.

I don't like spiders either:lmao: . As I recall the little critters blended in pretty well with the vegetation,maybe I won't notice them...I just don't like..nature..up close.

I never saw a lizard in our last Poly trip...but then again it wouldn't have bothered me, so i may not have noticed.

The lizards are all over FL, so yes, they're still there. We've seen them at SOG, Poly, in the parks, etc. They're native to FL and are totally harmless and cute. We walk from SOG to the Poly to catch the monorail and buses and see them every time.

In '06 I told my then six year old son to try to catch one.

That kept him occupied for a while - and without success. Those little buggers are FAST

lots of 'em. they are more scared of you than you are of them.

We saw A LOT at WL in Oct 06 and a few this past March at GF! They aren't bad! DS thought they we're so cool!

they were all over the Poly in May 2007, and all over POFQ in May 2008. And they run from people very, very quickly.:cool1: No way could we keep up with them

"love bugs" are another Florida native, flying insect which is always bumping into people because they're...ahem...in pairs, attached, as it were...hence the name "love" bugs. They do not bite...mainly just annoying cuz they don't watch where they're going...LOL

Nobody mentions them because they're just part of life in FL. They're everywhere, year round, lush landscaping or not. No way to avoid them.

As other posters have said, they're absolutely harmless. I don't think they even have teeth. And I hate to think how badly WDW would be overrun with bugs if the anoles weren't there; they eat lots and lots of bugs.

we spotted 3 dead ones at por on, twicw on the way to bus stop and once on the way back from old man island.
My son wanted to take that one home, ,:scared1:

Love bugs? Do tell, never heard of them.
Love bugs are these little black bugs that fly in two's, umm....you know...stuck together :rolleyes1 (that's why they're called love bugs)

They fly in swarms for a week or so here in FL and they are EVERYWHERE!

We just returned from the POLY last week. Saw lizards every day, DS took pictures of them. They are part of the reason that bugs are under control. I would rather see lizards and not get attacked by gnats, flies and mosquitoes. Lizards are part of the reason that it is tough to be a bug, they are good guys. :snail:

Now tell me that they eat all those nasty HUGE palmetto bugs (pretty name for flying cockroach!) and I will be a happy camper! Those worry me more than anything else!! :scared1:

DD (age 4-5) called them "two-headed" bugs! We said yes, isn't that crazy? Didn't need to have that discussion at that point!
