Tell me the "weather" where you live.

For any of you that live south and rarely see snow, here is your opportunity. We are going to get dumped on this weekend. I live a little southeast of where it says "Alton" and are expecting about 8 inches with some sleet mixed in for fun. I have a wide long driveway and 30/50amp service on the side of the house. Good news, you can drive on sleet and snow, but I'd plan on getting here in the next 24 hours. Southern MO and IL are in for trouble with freezing rain.

And the snow won't be going anytime soon. Not supposed to be above freezing for awhile.

I grew up in the Belleville area and dreaded the long walks to school as a kid.
Especially when it had heavy snow.

When a teenager, had many friends but have lost track of them when I moved to Chicago for a new job.

7 years ago retired from my job and moved with the family to Georgia
No sightings for snow ….but now more heat and zero snow.
but have had a day or two with ice ….ick..one winter.

We have more of a chance for freezing rain and sleet. I'll take snow over that any day. But, we'll see what happens.
I was wondering how far south the ice extended. 80 miles south of me looks pretty bad for over 1/2 inch of ice. The power company trucks were already queueing up yesterday.

Hopefully your power holds up for you and this isn't as bad as the models show. I'm one of those geeky amateur meteorologists. This is the latest composite ice model.

We are still on the north end of the snow/sleet line. Expecting 8 inches of snow with some sleet. The south end of the metro area is only supposed to get 2-3 inches of snow, but much more sleet and freezing rain.

Snow only becomes an issue when it gets deeper than the ground clearance on the vehicle. My Jeep will do fine with 8 inches. The RS is AWD, but it only has 4-5 inches of clearance. After that, it becomes a plow.

People in KC seem to be split between panic buying at the grocery store and scoffing at the forecast, assuming we’ll only get a few inches. But Jim Cantore arrived in KC this morning, so that’s probably not a good sign. Hoping for less ice even if that means more snow.

Ha. Same here with the grocery stores and WalMart.

And Jim Cantore knows where the worst is going (not KC). Guessing he doesn't want to get stuck in STL or Indy for a few days.

It looks like the path has shifted just a little to the south. That puts me just at the edge of the 9-15.

They have been very good cleaning up after the bigger storms in the last few years. Typically in 24 hours, the main routes are passable. Still planning on going to work on Monday.

Fort the record, here in Central Alabama we should be okay.

Overnight tonight we'll get some rain into Sunday morning but the temps will be in the 40s. After lunch the chance of rain/precip drops to nearly zero for Mon-Thur although night temps drop below freezing.

Friday's forecast show some snow flurry symbols (highs 40s, lows 30s) but we'll cross that bridge when we get to it.

I just try to find a sunny period of over 40 degrees to do my daily walk around campus. This time of year, I walk on the sunny side of the street (where I can find one) around mid-day. Funny - in summer I head out at the break of dawn and look for the shady side of the street (where I can find one). :confused3

SEC baseball practices start (unofficially) when students start classes next Wednesday (I slip in the back/grounds staff entrance to watch BP) and scrimmages start in 3 weeks (Fri-Sat-Sun) to simulate the spring weekend rotations (the start of official pre-season viewing by fans).

The season opens at 4pm on Feb 14 💝. THANKS Coach! DW loves that game time :sad2: .

But today already the days are getting longer. ⚾

5 inches on the back deck, but the heaviest isn't supposed to move in until this afternoon and tonight. Snowing a little more than an inch and hour now. My brother about 30 miles west in St. Louis had thunder snow a while ago. For those in the south, think of a thunderstorm and the heavy rain except it is snow or sleet. We have had it a few times that I remember and it usually translates into 12-20 inches of snow.

Right now we are still forecast to be in the 12 inch range. We'll see. I plan on going to work tomorrow (30 miles away), but the winter storm warning was just extended to 6am Monday. Have to see what the roads are like. Ian took the Jeep in to work this morning, but that was at 0430 before this really got going.

UPDATE: Getting about 2 in/hours right now.

Here is 1:15- 5 inches.

@Teamubr been waiting for your update. Every time I look at the radar am like uff Jim is getting it. It’s not bad here. Rain tonight and then tomorrow the bottom drops out. Lows will be 20. Am also prepping for a very cold 10k. That is not going to help the knee situation.

Kris,

Your lows will be close to our high until the end of the week. Single digits overnight until Thursday.

And people wonder why I want to move south.

Jim,

As a reminder let me say that down here close to the Gulf Coast, we still get seasons (cold winter, flowery spring, warm summer, awesome fall leaves).

We'd love to see your family move down this way some time soon.

I am 4.5 hours (half day) from the beach but if you want to be closer, that can be arranged.

Imagine selling your snow blower in a garage sale on your way out of Illinois. Can you imagine it? Can you FEEL it?

I hope you can feel it. :wizard:

PS - Kris, come on, help me out here .....

Tiggerdad texted a while ago to see how it was going. He said he was in his deer stand and sent a nice pic. I mentioned it was probably in the 50s and he said, nope! 62.

I plan on talking to a couple of realtors again while we are down at GSP next June. Still determining the most cost effective location.
