I am thinking of getting one for the kids but I am not sure what to get. We played one at EPCOT, I think it was the gamecube, and had a lot of fun. I am looking for more family games, Zelda, Mario, Disney and am not interested in games like grand theft auto. The kids both have gameboys but I want something we can play together. Besides they never let me play their gameboys and I'm getting to old to see that small! ;)

If you are looking for a family console, I'd pick Game Cube... that and the games you mentioned were Game Cube games ;) We have one and we like it. There is a big range of types they have, but they still seem to stick more towards games suited for all ages to teen levels... a few though are "mature" with the amount of blood & gore they have.

Here's a basic break down...

Gamecube - $149
Pros: It's $50 less than the other systems; small & compact; more of a variation between kids games & more mature ones.
Cons: Doesn't play DVDs, games are smaller (about the size of a mini-disc) & it isn't 5.1 compatable (I think); game selection is small; requires memory cards

Playstation 2 - $199
Pros: Widest selection of games; has most of the best games; controllers are pressure sensative; plays DVDs straight out of the box
Cons: More mature games; requires memory cards

XBox - $199
Pros: Best grahics; fastest processor; some of the cross-platform games have extra levels for the Xbox; no memory card required; will allow you to save your own music to playing during some games.
Cons: Requires a kit to play DVDs; heavy & large; controllers are made for an adult's hands; It is made by Microsoft.

Thanks Elaine and Jeff. Looks like the gamecube is what I was looking for.
