As the title says...
Tell me something you have cut out to save money and your estimated yearly savings.

Renting movies - we now get them at the library for free (although there is a waiting list)
$5 x 2 times a month = $120 a year

Buying magazines
$5 x 1-2 times a month = $90 a year

Scratch & Win tickets
$1 a week = $52 a year

Those 3 things are not missed in my life and I am now up $260 +/-

What have you cut out and not missed?

We rarely rent movies, but when we do, we use Redbox. $1.20 is way better than pay per view.

I have to be honest, we haven't cut out a lot of extras. I have toyed with cutting cable and looking for cheaper cell service, but haven't been able to justify it. It just wouldn't save all that much. I have really cut back on buying myself clothes and shoes. I also have been way more careful to make a grocery list and buy what is on it. I have put a lot of planning into the food budget.

Cut off satellite TV (savings: $984/year) - I bought a $30 digital antenna for our local stations and we already subscribed to Netflix and mostly watch that.

Stopped buying breakfast and lunch in the cafeteria at work - I just recently made this change. I was spending an average of $100/month doing this and it was so easy to do because my work takes it out of my check so I never "miss it." But once I realized how much I was spending, it made me sick! I now pack my breakfast and lunch.

Newspaper - We cut out the newspaper and saved $252 per year. Our local paper puts the same news online for free. I tried to be a couponer but I wasn't very good at it...lol. So I'm not missing those.

We switched to solar power for the house, it saves anywhere from $50-$200 a month depending on how much we need to use the air conditioning.

We changed our newspaper delivery from daily to a lessor plan. We now get Sunday and Wednesday delivery along with the holiday papers. We just read the rest of the days online.

And, we got rid of our landline. I really regret this, though, and at some point, will probably get a new one.

Don't recall the savings, though.

Forgot that one. We also cut the landline awhile back. I think that was around 35.00/month.

This will sound silly, but I cut out CVS. It used to be my go-to "stop and grab something" store, but every time I was in there I decided on about 5 additional things I didn't need. No real concept of how much I'm saving, but I'd guess at least $20-30 a month.

We got rid of cable TV years ago. I don't remember what we used to pay for it, but we don't miss it at all. We have an antenna for local channels and subscribe to Netflix. We also have a SmartTV (a gift from my parents) so I got the adapter/cables to hook my MacBook up to the TV. Now we can stream shows off of Hulu and the networks' websites too.

I do that when I buy groceries at Walmart. Groceries may be cheaper there, but I'm always picking up extra stuff I don't really need. So I'm really better off going to stores that JUST sell food!

We cut cable. Saving over a grand a year. I will never have it again. Damn the man! We have an HD antenna and $8 Netflix. If Netflix ever becomes ridiculous, I will cut that too!

We cut cable
$95 a month x 12= $1140

Changed I phone service from AT&T to T mobile and decreased it $35 a month x 12 = $420

Is CVS the drug store chain?

If you are taking generic drugs(don't know if name brands apply) check out Costco prices. You don't have to be a member to use their pharmacy.

I don't buy coffee out unless I have a gift card. And not one I bought myself. Lol. Has to be an actual gift. We used to stop here and there, never all that often, but about a year and a half ago I decided I was done paying extra for what I could make at home. I haven't added up how much I think I've saved

ETA and we are in the process of changing newspaper delivery. It has gotten so expensive and DH says he can just read it online. We will switch to weekends only or maybe Sundays only.

All of the following are rounded, usually down, but are very close to the actual amount.

Cut out Satellite TV for $100/mo
Yearly Savings: $1,200

Cut out the expensive cell plan, cut $100/mo.
Yearly Savings: $1,200

Cut out haircuts (we cut it ourselves)
Yearly Savings: $500

Both of us started putting ALL of our loose change in a jug at the end of the day. It took 11 and 1/2 months-but,we saved over $1500 towards our Disney vacation last year!!!!!

:yay:

It is, yeah. I actually only have 1 medication that's got a small copay, but I'd usually stop there to grab milk, cards-little odds and ends because they have everything and it's 1/20 the size of our grocery store :)

I'm cutting out Disney for at least the next two years. That should save me about 12 grand. Seriously though, we back our cable to the basic cable package and saved about $100 per month. I didn't cut it out completely because the cost wasn't much more when bundled with high speed internet than the cost of internet itself. Does anybody know how to get cheaper internet?

We also cut out dog grooming and I'm learning to do it myself from you tube videos. Saves about $300 per year.

I used to stop at Tim Horton's every morning for coffee. Now I have a Tassimo and I can buy my own Tim Horton's. This roughly saves me 50 cents per day, which doesn't sound like much, but factor in the two kids in the back seat who always want a muffin and we're talking big savings!!!!!

I worked it out to about $600 per year in savings, which more then pays for the Tassimo. :thumbsup2

It's not really a cut from the budget but I re-shopped a bunch of stuff last year:

Got our cable/internet/phone down to $85/month- save $600/yr

Got new car insurance- $240/yr

Got new life insurance (and more!)- $120/yr

Cut diapers (yay potty training!)- $500/yr
