Sorry if there's already thread like this out there but I am 2 weeks away form my first stay at SSR and so I am looking for things to get me excited and to learn of hidden gems about the resort that one may not normally notice or are easily missed. What's the top things you must do/see while there? You know -- tell me about those things that make SSR special. :cloud9::hug:

As a back ground our party consists of 4 adults, (hubby, myself, brother and sister in law) and 3 kids (13b,12g,& 7g).

Spending some time at Community Hall. The kids in your party are a little old for crafts, but they might like some video game or foosball game time. The 7 year old is a perfect age for some of the crafts they do. My DD made a jump rope at SSR Community Hall last year - it was about $5 for materials - she loved that activity.

We have stayed at SSR several times and this past June we did something new. At night (8PM/9PM) besides the main pool, the brought out an inflatable movie screen and showed a disney movie. It is so neat for the family to be able to be in the pool and watch the Incredibles. My grandson still wants to swim and watch the movies. This was the first time we experienced the movie and they had a movie schedule for every night of the week. Have fun - we love SSR.

We can't wait for the dive in movie!! On the 19th they are showing WALL-E which is my daughters FAVORITE movie! yayyyyy!

Rent and ride bikes, they have all sizes as well as the surrey type.
Tennis courts and a basketball court for the kids ( all ages) get equipment from the community hall area.
Take the boat to OKW for dinner at Olivia's.
Get up early and stand along the river toward DTD and watch all the wildlife.
Get up early and walk around the lake and look for all the wildlife.

My kids LOVED going to Community Hall!! In fact, (not exaggerating) they didn't want to go to the parks! They wanted to do every activity there all day long then go to the pool side movie.

I personally LOVED LOVED LOVED the gym, it is FANTASTIC (if you're into working out on your vacation, some aren't) as well as riding bikes (not surrey) around the property!

Use the jacuzzi in the ladies' locker room at the spa/gym. It's really nice!

Have a cocktail at the Turf Club lounge (just outside the restaurant).

Walk over to the Marketplace for morning coffee and then browse the shops before it gets crowded. (Goofy's candy store has an espresso/cappucino machine and pastries - yum!).

Enjoy your trip! (wish I was going!). :goodvibes

One day we were there they brought out stuff by the pool to make ice cream by shaking bags. The kids loved it.

Also, they had the models for the current DVC resort (probably BLT now) there so you can go in and see it.

The homemade potato chips at Artist's Palate!

The best gym facility at Disney World to work them off!

We like to take walks over the bridge and see all the different fish, turtles and birds. We also like the walk over to OKW. Love to walk all the way around the lake through DTD early in the morning. Really enjoy the boat to DTD then switch boats and ride up to POR. Enjoy your trip.

Wow so you hang out *in* the pool.. very interesting and an awesome way to keep cool in the heat!

I loved being right onsite for the DVC open house from 5-7pm. You get to see the Kidani and BLT rooms without stepping foot off SSR property!

Here's another little known secret about SSR : A lot of folks are either nervous or upset about being "forced" to stay there and end up either really liking it or realizing that "it's not that bad" and would probably stay there again if they "had" to............

I count myself in this group as we rented points for a last-minute trip last year and SSR was the only thing with availability. Didn't think it would be kid friendly, but our son (4 at the time) enjoyed it as did Mom and Dad. While we want to try all of the DVC resorts (have only stayed at BCV and SSR), I certainly won't be upset if we "have" to stay at our home resort.

My son loved this!!!

For the adults, if you can get a table and couple of lounge chairs in the hot tub area of the the pool(by the pool bar), it is like having a cool little alcove for the day away from all the hustle and bustle but you are still able to see it all! Plus it makes those trips to the pool bar nice and easy:rolleyes1

The flatbreads are yummy, yummy, yummy!

They were absolutely wonderful!! I had the Pepperoni with extra cheese but they have one for breakfast that looked fantastic *eggs, bacon" I think, I dont know what all was on it for sure....
