What the good, bad, and the ugly about it?

I'll never buy their meat there. Everything says "injected with a 12% solution"

but they don't say WHAT the solution is or WHY.

I had never bought it b/c it just never looked right to me (beef stew meat looked like barf---blech) Anyway, one day I asked the meat department worker...

who said "oh, they do that so the meat looks red."

UH...SORRY....but I like my meat to be red because it's MEAT!!! (and fresh meat at that!)

I also am way underwhelmed at their produce department.

It's alright. Not my first choice but living in the sticks there aren't many choices. If I need to get groceries AND something else, I go to Wal*mart. If I need groceries ONLY, I go to Kroger.

Our new supercenter just put one of our oldest and dearest hometown grocery stores out of business. I really miss them too. Now I have to go to the other side of town to buy groceries from the one hometown grocery store we have left. I detest wall-mart. Even though we now have a "Supercenter" we have less choices in everything except groceries. (which I refuse to buy there)

filthy, unorganized, not enough cashiers, unattentive personnel, sub standard quality of meats and produce, longggggggg lines, stores cluttered and disorganized.
EVERY single time I have ever shopped at WalMart, the cashier has suddenly LEFT the cash area for change or to check a price, or to talk to another cashier about something trivial. :confused3 :confused3 :confused3
This shocks me!!!! You would never see that at a Target. ever.

Screaming kids, screaming parents, no fuelperks. Ours usually has nice cashiers, though. Yucky meat and produce. Even the moms who I know that shop at Walmart regularly don't buy meat there.

The good... always low prices. We shop at our local Supercenter because we save money. I don't think this makes me a bad person :confused3

The bad... usually poor customer service. Although waddaya expect... its Wal-mart :teeth:

The ugly... the meat department. I am really surprised that Wal-Mart doesn't improve its meat dpt. You hear such similar comments from all over the US.

I am a proud Wal-Mart shopper. I refuse to go to Target or the mall or a local chain grocery store and pay 10% higher prices for the same thing. The image is that only troglodytes shop there, but that's such a load of stinky stuff IMO

Low Wages, Not good Health Insurance, Full timers make 35 hours, No Butcher, No Baker, Sub humans working there, and no Retirement plan plus they knock the "mom and Pop" stores out of business.......need I say more!

Generally Target is only 10-20 cents more on items and the products last a LOT longer. Shopping at Wal-mart isn't cheap when you have to keep replacing the things that break.

Rude employees, disorganized messes on the shelves, nothing is ever in stock, dirty stores and parking lots....just not my cup of tea.

I enjoy spending my dollars at Target instead.

I’m a shopper, therefore I shop at all the stores for the items I need. Sometimes Wal-Mart wins my business and sometimes they loose. We have 6 Wal-Marts and a Sam’s Club in my area. Even among these stores, the prices of various items can vary quite a bit from store to store.

As an example, a few weeks ago I was in the market to buy 25 Blitz 5 gallon gasoline cans. These cans are sold at Kmart, Target, Lowes, Home Depot, Sears, Sam’s Club, Ace Hardware, Wal-Mart and numerous other stores in my local area. I found a Wal-Mart selling these cans for $4.48 each. The next cheapest price was $4.88 at another local Wal-Mart.

All the other stores were significantly higher in price (such as $6.99) for this same item. Therefore, by purchasing these 25 gas cans for $4.48 per unit rather than $6.99, I saved $62.75 plus tax!

I shop Wal-Mart to save money!

we do not have a super-walmart here yet (coming soon). I love my walmart store. I buy all my paper products including diapers there. I like the style of clothes better than target or meijer. The customer service is good. yes sometimes it may look "messy" if they are restocking, but they're open 24 hours.

Of the 3 Walmarts within a 15 minute drive, one is outstanding and I like shopping there. The one on the opposite side of town is okay, though the rest of my family doesn't like to shop there. The SuperCenter is noisy and crowded. I shop at Walmart more frequently than Target, mostly for artcles other than food or clothing. Rarely do I buy clothing at Walmart. I used to, for DD when she was in elementary school.

I will say that I was raised shopping at Wal-Mart. I like that it's inexpensive- particularly the clothes and housewares.

However, it drives me nuts when they have 30 cash registers and only four of them have cashiers at them. I HATE HATE HATE standing in line for long periods of time. I think DH is slowly but surely pulling me into the Target camp...

Our closest WalMart just finished being rebuilt into a supercenter. I don't know if I'll do much grocery shopping there since I have two grocery stores that are much closer.

The last time DW Lauri and I were in there it was nice. The aisles are much bigger and the store is cleaner and less cluttered than when it was a regular WalMart. We'll see what happens when the new wears off and if the store survives Black Friday. :teeth:

As for our overall opinion of WalMart ... well, where do you think the inspiration for the "my sanity's not worth half price" quote in MeanLaureen's tag came from? :lmao:

good-low prices

bad- as my FIL says "you can get in but you cant get out", not enough cashiers.

ugly-Ive seen yard sales that were better organized, and cleaner too.

You must go to the Short Pump one. That one scares me. :rotfl2:

The bain of society.

Cheap prices because of cheap labor overseas. They're driven every Mom and Pop store out of business within miles of them. They can't compete with the prices. If they buy 10 hammers at 10 bucks apiece, Walmart can buy 10,000 hammers at 5 bucks apiece.

Other than all of the above I love them.

The Walmart in our old town was great, clean, well stocked but not crowded, plenty of cashiers, never had more then one or two people in front of me in line, usually just walked right up, their self-checkouts worked great, prices were very good.

The closest Walmart to us now is creepy. The layout is goofy, not very organized, crowed. I don't like going to that one. I found another one about 15 miles away that is like our old one, clean, nice, etc.
