Tell me more about Totino's Pizza Rolls

My kids love them, and when I was a kid, my dad would have them as his late night snack (only in the oven, however...microwaved sucks), and we would share. So, they are sentimental for me.

I made too much sauce last week, so my younger son made pizza rolls and sauce for lunch each day. Bottomless pit went through a gigantic bag in 1 week..

I'm sorry you've managed to live how long and not have a pizza roll? Goodness where have you been living?

These things were part of my childhood, part of my dorm life, part of my college apartment life..

Embarrassed to admit I've never had pizza rolls either. My parents never bought convenience foods when I was younger so my after school snack food was 3 or 4 peanut butter and honey sandwiches before swim practice. After my dad's first heart attack at 36, he went on a very strict diet the only thing he would allow my mom to make was baked chicken with salsa and baked fish. Trust me, I ate a lot more PB&H sandwiches after that!

My second year in college my roommate's mom was in the PR department for a frozen meal company. She sent us 100s of free coupons for that frozen meal company. After I graduated she would still send me coupons to get me through my first few years of being a poor teacher. When she retired and the coupons stopped coming in, I never ate another one of those frozen meals.

Today I will be buying pizza rolls when I go to the store. :rotfl2:

Do I get cool points for knowing the lady that invented pizza rolls?! 🤣 Her name is Bea Ojakangas. She is an amazing cook and baker who is known for her Scandinavian cooking. I worked at the church she attends and was fortunate to enjoy many meals and bread prepared by her and a team of folks (never pizza rolls though!)

That time she invented Totino's Pizza Rolls:

“I worked for Jeno [Paulucci, the owner of Chun King, a company that sold 'canned Chinese-like food products']. They had me develop new products. They said, 'Can you come up with as many fillings as you can think of for egg rolls, that would make good snacks?' I think I came up with 55 different ideas, made two dozen of each one, and about five or six of them were pizza fillings. One of them was peanut butter and jelly, because I knew Jeno loved peanut butter and jelly. When they came to the pizza-flavored ones, all the conversation stopped. Jeno slammed his fist on the table: 'That's it! Jeno's Pizza Rolls!' Jeno's Pizza Rolls was sold eventually to Pillsbury, and Pillsbury owned Totino's, and that's how that came about. Now they're Totino's Pizza Rolls. I haven't eaten one in many years now."

I'm not a fan of them, but my girls have always loved them.
I actually have a huge bag in my freezer right now for my DD(17) to eat while she's on Christmas break :thumbsup2

There's on some flash special at a local supermarket chain. $4.99 for a bag with a little over 4 lbs. I haven't had them before, but this seems like a cheap and easy snack or even a meal.
Never had one and err don’t want one especially when I read the ingredient list.
Strombolis are easy to make and freeze at home and that’s the route I take.

Haha... I haven't had pizza rolls for years. This thread reminded me how much I like them. I bought some this morning in case we get the munchies on Christmas Day afternoon (I haven't really planned "lunch." Pizza rolls and Christmas cookies will fill the bill.)

I agree with the people who provided these tips:
1) Take the time to make them in the oven. Microwave just doesn't cut it.
2) Let them cool a bit before you bite into one. That melted cheese/sauce is like lava.

They were the best when I was in college!
Would I make a meal out of them? No.
Would I make a snack out of them? Heck yeah!
Drunk late night snack? Maybe. It's dangerous when you're drunk and hungry because you forget to let them cool off first.

Totino's pizza rolls...yum!

Such an authentic Italian dish, and they go great with a nice box of wine.

I beg to differ. Strombolis are extremely time consuming to make. We are making them for Christmas dinner. I'm already dreading it. But the kids love them.

We constantly have a bag of pepperoni pizza rolls in the freezer. With 2 teen boys, it's practically a requirement, along with chicken taquitos.

I raised two “eating machines” and married another. They’d be on seconds or thirds while I was still eating my first helping (cold of course), and taking side bets on who would snatch my plate away when I called it quits.Skinniest I’ve ever been in life with no effort:flower3:.

Buy dough from pizzeria (LIFESAVER!!).Check
Fire roast some peppers and onions.Check
Use sliced salami and such from deli.Check
Open jar of sauce and assemble.
Slash steam vents, rest, egg wash, and into the oven it goes.

I’m not a fan of certain prepared foods but have no issues with some cooking shortcuts
😉
