We went there and we must have been too far north because I didn't see Fashion Island, the boats coming in and out, nor any good swimming areas or tide pools? We did see a Ruby's on the pier we were at but that was it. Help.
Which exit do I take? Is this the best beach to go to from Disneyland?

We have stayed at the Hotel Del Coronado our last time and that beach was perfect.

Are you sure you were not at Huntington Beach as there is a Ruby's on their Pier.....I haven't seen one down in Newport

We stayed at the Hyatt Huntington Beach 2 years ago, and the OP's description is of Huntington Beach. Yes, I believe you went too far north. When we took a half-day trip to Newport Beach Fashion Island, we headed south and it took us about 20 minutes to get there. There is good signage that takes you into Newport Beach. We just followed the signs...that's all there was to getting there for us.

As for a good beach, we thoroughly enjoyed Huntington Beach. We had a great time.

No it was Newport. I am trying to find a picture of one of the lifeguard stations to see if it had any markings on it.

There is a Ruby’s in Balboa. Fashion Island is about 8 miles
inland from there - across the Balboa Bay. No tide pools in
Balboa.

For the Newport Beach swimming areas you needed to get off the
peninsula - you were actually too far south. South of the Balboa
peninsula is Corona Del Mar and too far north you’ll hit
Huntington Beach.

I live in Newport Beach. We just moved here from MA. We love it here. This city is absolutely beautiful. Fashion Island is right around the corner from me. The views of the water are awesome. What a lovely community. :thumbsup2

Yup, there's a Ruby's on the Pier at Peninsula Park near Balboa...which is in Newport Beach.

Would this be the best beach/ocean spot to go for the day? I am looking for a spot that has a wider/flatter beach spot than where we were. Something like Coronado.

You could go a few miles north and stop in either
Newport Beach (away from the Balboa peninsula)
or Huntington Beach. Or head south to Corona Del Mar.
